The Flock is still available for purchase five years later in late 2020. I don't know how many "flock lives" remain, but the current player count on Steam is zero, and the official website for both the game and the developer is an unregistered domain up for sale. This game was an attempt at doing something unusual and interesting. It failed and the game is now dead for a perfectly mundane and typical reason, rather than the unique reason the developers had hoped for.

I have a distinct memory of watching this TB video when it was brand new, in the morning, with a cup of coffee. Mostly because it was the first new Total Biscuit episode to come out after I moved to a new house. And I remember also suspecting such an outcome. Now I just feel extremely melancholy...

the steam page has a link to a community page to try and help players. I do think the combination of saying that they'd rather go down trying then give up on their philosophy is honourable and that they admit they fell on their sword. Given that it won awards for student games in 2013 hopefully the devs have found work.

TB saved so much for me after my burnout. This was at a relatively young age, so I can clearly say he's actually shaped parts of me

The idea of a limited population multiplayer could only work in a game with a rock solid, great singleplayer. You'd need to sell the game on the singleplayer if you're trying to turn the multiplayer into a gimmick.

I wonder what the population counter is at now

Probably the same as it was years ago considering the game died before the players could.
