Late for the party as well, but I really gotta say.... damn. This is one of the best playthroughs I've seen, not for Dark Souls, but for a board game in general. O&S next bleed seems kinda op. I figured it would do the dmg and then disappear meaning on the next attack it would build up making it proc on the following attack. the way you played it immediately built back up after it disappeared. love the video. clear and concise.

in the rulebook it says that you take away the maker after the character get's dmged the second time. So you need one aditional attack 2 reactivate it. but thx 4 uploading this. it was very informing and interresting 2 watch. (sorry 4 my bad english (not nativ and in hurry)).

vipergecko03 you know I'm not sure anymore. At first I thought you were right, but I went back to the rules and it said when a model gets HIT, I give it then bleed token, then bleed activates when it takes damage, so we might be able to look at the order of operations like this: Declare attack, roll dice, hit, add bleed, deduct for defense, do damage, trigger bleed (if the attack did damage), but that seems even more OP Just like when monsters "hit" you, but don't damage you; you still take the hit effects. I think I'll just avoid using the claymore in the next episode to avoid this issue
@JTT-mi6nu7 жыл бұрын
vipergecko03 It seems OP because it's a solo run. In multiplayer it doesn't work as well because it will a couple of turns before that player attacks again. so if another player strikes the demon it will cause the bleed to trigger, but now it's gone till the Player with the bleed attachment can deal damage again. In solo it becomes OP...cause he'll need it. It's only him taking the full assault of the boss. At least that's how I see it.
@TheTurophile7 жыл бұрын
The order of operations is declare attack -> roll dice -> hit -> deduct damage -> (if the enemy already has the Bleed condition, resolve it now: add 2 damage and remove the token) -> (if the attack has Bleed, add the Bleed token now). The default rules are way too dependent on luck of the draw and can result in an absolute shit time really often, especially if you're by yourself, because they didn't think out the treasure system enough. Bronson Jarrard Because it moves twice- it will change facing before each step it takes otherwise you would be right in that situation HOWEVER- it does not ALWAYS change facing before movement, only if the movement targets a model will it change facing. @CynicallyAwesome6 жыл бұрын
The short version is that push that appears with the leap IS what tells you to do the push. Leap just tells you to pick up and put down, but you can't just land on top of another model like that and pick a ark to end up on > you have to be pushed once, so that's what the icon tells you. I can explain the long version, but it goes into re-explaining how push works in general

At 13:00 mark when you went back to the bonfire to spend the Souls and change weapons you have to flip all the encounter card over and start all the tiles over again. I don't think you did that.
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
You only do that if you spend a spark by resting at a bonfire (which resets the tokens on your character board) or die (which also reduces the spark count and resets the character tokens) you can go back to the bonfire and level up, buy treasure, modify equipment without spending a spark or resetting the tiles

Hi Cynically, good job for the video. Is great! I just started playing this game, and i have more questions and i can not understand, i tell you, if you can resolve my problem i will be very happy..! 1) when the enemies start their turn in a node where another player is present as they move? 2) When I play in multiplayer, the aggression marker is removed at the end of the fight or remains in possession of the last character activated? 3)When i use the skill of Assasins can i move my charater later? 4)Can i reorder my equipment in the end of the battle? 5) if the boss should move to a player in his node? Thank you a lot
@CynicallyAwesome6 жыл бұрын
1. I'm not sure i understand what you mean, but models sharing a node behave normally. if the monster is moving towards a different target than the one on its node, it just moves like normal. if its move includes a push behavior, push the player first then move the monster like normal. if the monster is moving towards the player in its node, it doesn't move because it is in range unless its a bow because a bow can't shoot at a target in its own node 2. The aggro token stays with the last player who had it in at the end of the encounter (but it doesn't matter because you get to choose who gets it at the beginning of the next encounter) 3. The assassin's ability activates AFTER you succeed a dodge, so you have to spend stamina, (optionally)move, roll, succeed, THEN decide to use the ability, so no 4. yes 5. I think all boss movement has the push behavior, so the player gets pushed off first (for free, no damage), then the boss moves like normal, pushing the player even further as needed

I have a question about certain spells in this game. I've been playing through by myself solo a few times to get a good understanding before I bring in 3 of my friends and I'm confused about one thing: Great Magic Weapon has 2 buffs [0] makes it so all your attacks this activation are magical [2] makes it so all your attacks this activation are magical and +1 does that mean you cant attack with a 2 handed weapon that turn? like the rule book doesn't specify if you can or cannot move your gear around once you use it during your activation. so for instance if I wanted to attack with a greataxe which is 2 handed, could I use great magic weapon and heal aid on myself and then swap both of those spells for my greataxe and attack? it seems like you could be able to do that, but if you couldn't then it would make that spell useless for 2handed weapons. also you wouldn't be able to use any other spell or kukri or firebomb and then attack with a 2 handed weapon. any thoughts?
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
The way the rules and cards work now, you can't swap out items once you start your activation; it at the beginning of your turn that you can change items around, so once you do- you're stuck with it until your next activation. This does mean that great magic weapon can almost never be used with 2-handed weapons unless there is a card or heroic ability that gets released afterwards that says spells in your backpack can be activated during your turn. 2 handed weapons are the most inflexible weapons because of this
@Tyfont7 жыл бұрын
that makes sense. I was playing around just seeing what it would be like and yeah a greataxe with 2 upgrades and doing magical damage seemed wayyy too strong. but it doesn't seem like 2 handed weapons are really worth it if you can't even use a simple heal in the same turn :/
@loganrichards51407 жыл бұрын
You can switch weapons once during your turn, and attack once with each hand. Therefore you might be able to use Magic Weapon in your left hand, cast it, then swap your equipment to Left: Empty/Right: Greataxe and attack with the Greataxe that's now buffed. You are attacking with a different slot, the other slot is empty so you can use the Greataxe, and you only swapped weapons once. Works for me.
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
you can only switch your weapons around at the BEGINNING of your turn

I'll do a quick re-read of the rules - I've probably skimmed that section.

Just letting you know there are a few issues with how you are playing. The boss will not turn unless there is a turn icon, and I'm pretty sure the claymore is - 1.not 100% on either of those but that's how I'm playing
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
the boss doesn't turn during its attack, but it does turn during movement. for example, if it has a 0 movement behavior, but it has the aggro or nearest player icon on that movement behavior, it will turn to face its target, but not move off its node. As for the claymore, unless my card is misprinted, I see a plus one on both its attacks

i love the video all the way :D there is one thing that bothers me tbh, in your first encounter the silver knight swordmen moves to attack you and he can move 2 nodes... now comes the tricky part to explaining what i mean... the very first move you do with the silverknight swordmen at 4:36 is move him vertically up, but isn't that 2 moves already considering you had to first move to the northwestern node of the starting point? imo and what i understand from the rule book is that the silverknight did 3 moves to get to your character. so what bothers me is that you made the silverknight go 3 nodes for what i saw in the rulebook page 22 (bottom left picture) where the picture explains 1 walk and 3 runs but its all on nodes close together and not with nodes horizontal or vertical. i hope i make any sense, my english not good and i really tried to explain what i mean :-) kind regards, a happy owner of dark souls the board game because of you CA ;-)
@CynicallyAwesome5 жыл бұрын
this is the example i try to show in my tutorial. people get confused by the nodes. imagine a 3x3 grid. Replace the boxes with dots - that's how the board game works. the center dot can go up, down, left, right and diagonals. Those are all considered one space away. in your example at 4:36, if you turn the board 45 degrees, from the knight's dot, he moves diagonal (top right), then up- that's two spaces. make sense?

PSA for Large Hollow Soldier I've seen a lot of people getting confused over the AI card for this guy, and the same question getting asked over and over, so thought I'd clarify how he works :) I'll go in stages starting at the beginning of his activation, so just follow along at home kids! 1. The Large Hollow Soldier targets the nearest character. If two or more characters are tied for being nearest to him, then he targets whichever one of them has the aggro token. If none of them have the aggro token, he targets the one with the highest taunt value. 2. Any models on the same node as the Large Hollow Soldier then get pushed off of his node onto any legal node (taking into account node model limits, scenery etc). This initial push DOES NOT cause damage to any characters. 3. The Large Hollow Soldier then moves one node towards the targeted character. If he lands on their node he pushes them (normal rules for pushing apply), this push deals 5 physical damage that can then be blocked or dodged as the player wishes. And that's your lot! Hope that helps, I've seen this model come up time and time again on here and BGG with people being unsure of how he works. Have fun, and happy Dark Souls-ing

Thanks for the quick answer :). I really enjoyed this run and learned a lot about boss fighting in this game. Go for Ornstein and smough after.

Hey, at 12min you use estus after fully activating, I though in the French guidebook it said estus is only usable at the beginning of the activation, can you clarify if this was a mistake or if you're sure that you can estus any time during the activation? Thanks! This video's odd, I bought the game 2 days ago and played a solo game, took knight and had claymore + the usable sheild with 2hand, lucky loot! Wrecked Gargoyle into Dancer with only 1 death upon meeting my first sentinel, very fun game but I felt overstuffed as a solo player pretty quickly (Claymore + attack modifier wrecks face so hard... + the defence combines quickly with sheild and armor for a ton of defensive dice, i took dmg on about 1/5th of the enemy attacks!)

Estus can be used at any time during your activation phase. Streamforged Games have apparently done a terrible job at translating the rulebook - you're better off downloading the English one and google translating anything you struggle to understand. Although, given that you wrote your comment in English, that doesn't seem to be a problem. You can download all the rules from steamforged.com/dark-souls

Actually it says DURING activation, so you must use estus at the beginning of your turn. So yes, he cheated in this video.

Originally when I played with friends we decided you could drink Estus at any time, but not in response to being killed (we skimmed the rulebook). This provides the loophole for rolling - you can roll, fail the roll, announce you're going to use a luck token, chug Estus (because your death isn't certain) then spend the luck.

During a character’s activation, they may use the Estus Flask to remove all black and red cubes from their endurance bar (p. 20). You can only use it at the beginning of your turn.

If you could use estus while being attacked it would make the game sooooo much easier. That is why you must prepare for the ENTIRE enemy team to attack. Estus is only used DURING ACTIVATION.

So you can actually move after you attack?
@CynicallyAwesome6 жыл бұрын
Do your full move then full attack or vice versa, yes. you CANNOT move, attack move OR attack with one weapon, move, attack with second weapon.

CynicallyAwesome thanks a lot!

As a general rule you can move and then attack. Or attack and then move. Unless your the warrior and are dual wielding. His special ability allows him to break this rule. You can move and attack with your first weapon. And then use your special ability which allows you to move one space and attack for free. Some weapon attacks can be repeated. And some have movement included in their attack. If you combine this special ability with a weapon that could repeat attacks and move.. you can do a lot of crazy stuff...
@Areoss896 жыл бұрын
@@CynicallyAwesome you can't attack with one weapon and then move and attack with another weapon. You can only have 1 movement phase and 1 attack phase.

16:38 "if the attack includes the push icon, any character hit by the attack is pushed after the roll is resolved" they didnt hit you why did you moved ?
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
your timestamp confuses me because I'm not sure it shows the example you're trying to tell me. when i block a silver knight swordsman attack, even if i negate all the damage- the attack still "hit" me, so i must take the push effect. if i dodged the swordsman attack successfully, i wouldn't be pushed because i wasn't "hit". If i dodged and was unsuccessful, i would still have to spend stamina (for the dodge), move to an adjacent node (because of dodge if i wanted to), and i would take the damage and suffer push because the attack hit me, even if i'm much farther away because of the dodge.

Oh know I see thanks!

Wait you can move as many nodes as you want when you move?
@javiip23564 жыл бұрын
Yes, your first move during your turn is free and every other move on your same turn cost 1 stamina. So if the enemy is 3 tiles away you move 1 for free spent 2 stamina to move 2 more times and then attack
@Bumbum_Inspector7 жыл бұрын
30:20 Can you really move like that? I feel like you covered a distance of 2 nodes with 1 free move moving like that.
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
yes. Imagine a 3 by 3 grid where i was at the center and i moved to a node that was diagonal from that point. If you turn the board at a 45 degree angle, you can see the grid I'm talking about more easily. If i can do that, so can the monster
@Bumbum_Inspector7 жыл бұрын
+CynicallyAwesome Ahh, I tilted my head and immediately saw what you were referring to. Thank you, that will make movement much less complicated next time I play hahaha.
@Lockehart12896 жыл бұрын
@@CynicallyAwesome I know what you mean by turning the board but I believe you can't do that with your free move. I believe that counts as 2 spaces. Edit: I looked it up myself. Page 10 The highlighted green circles are adjacent this being able to move there. I apologize.

Also, why did you roll an extra black die at the very end?
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
Ah, i glanced passed it and thought it said Kuriki. as for the die, I was in the boss's exposed arc, so you get a +1 black die bonus. As for the way i roll dice, not all of them leave my hand at once, so my rolls are sometimes staggered when i have a lot of dice in my hand

Hey there, just wondering if you forgot to take into consideration Titanite Demon's boss ability?
@CynicallyAwesome7 жыл бұрын
I dont believe I forgot it- The Titanite Demon's ability is that it reduces damage by one every time it takes 3 or more damage. I calculate most, if not all, of the damage out loud, so i do believe i do that when i do 3 or more damage unless i missed it once or twice. Remember, this means if I do 1 or 2 damage (after resistance), it doesn't get further reduced
