You knew Renee was going to win it literally when you hear how she was making the most oscar bait-y movie of all time lol ugh i didn't even think it was that good of a movie either. Harriet was better but not by much tbh... I was pretty bummed because Erivo is magnificent in it and I felt like she was kinda wasted in that script. Just felt like there is a much more impressive movie script to write out Tubbman's life story, maybe it would be better suited for a mini-series I suppose. I just felt like the Movie failed to do her justice within it's medium. "Stand Up" was fucking incredible though and deserved to win best song. I liked the Elton John song bc it really did feel like one of his old songs, but good lord Stand Up was fucking magical. It felt like it legitimately could have been in The Color Purple's broadway musical. Makes me think Tubbman's life could be an incredible musical and kinda shocks me it hasn't been. Glad she got to perform it because thats basically all I hope for from the oscars. To give an audience to great performances that most people didn't get to see, but she still got to perform it so its worth :)
