I have both. Loved the Shark until I noticed considerable hair breakage, frizzing and thinning. The Dyson has been much gentler on my hair. The Dyson smoothing brushes are magical. (For your hair texture, the other firm smoothing brush would have been better.) All the Dyson attachments use the Coanda technology (except the small round brush) but the Shark only uses it on its barrels. That's why the difference in price. If you have alot of hair and don't mind losing some, I agree that the Shark has more power and the curling barrels are wonderful. But those boar bristle brushes are way too rough for me. I can't afford to lose any more hair so am sticking with the Dyson.

After watching this video (I’m biased lol) I’d still pick my dyson over anything else. I like how you can’t make it hotter. The number one reason as to why I got it was hair health. My hair is wavy and it’s fine but I do have a good amount of hair. One of their biggest selling points is drying and styling your hair with less heat. The reason as to why they charge so much is the technology. It has great performance (to me) but their technology is just better than shark(again to me). Inside it regulates the temp 40 times per second. So it doesn’t get hotter than it needs to be. I’m not rich so I had to save for the airwrap. Also I got it on Black Friday at Best Buy AND my bf put half the money as a Christmas gift. The shark one is still a great option for people who want good performance , good styling and don’t really care as much about hair health. For me my Dyson was an investment into my hair. I feel like i actually saved money 💰 because I cut my hair less often. I don’t get as many split ends. So I don’t spend as much money at the salons. Also saves me my time not just in styling but my hair growth. Since I don’t cut my hair as often my hair is growing and I’m not cutting off that growth because my hair health is better. I don’t buy as many hair products as I used to. My only hair tool is the airwrap. It replaced my drier, my curler and my straightener. the airwrap doesn’t give me bone straight hair but to be fair neither has any other straightener. It does get straight but Ik some people could probably get better results with something else. ( in terms of straightness) I love how I can do a blowout look, a straight look, and a curly hair look. To me it is the best investment ever into my hair. I did buy mine almost a year ago but honestly if you care about your hair health the 300 difference is a no brainer. You’re gonna save so much more in the long run trust me. Sorry for the long reply if you made it to the end you’re a real one lol 😂

Understanding better I still stand by what I said. I like how my dyson tool is not producing more heat than sharks. She did say that you can lower the temp to make it healthier for your hair. Thank you for this review. I loved that it was quick and to the point, not a ton of rambling like some KZbin reviews, and went over pros and cons of all the tools. The points system was also helpful in quantifying your results. I ended up buying the Shark thanks to this review and love it so far. I can get curls that last with the lowest heat setting, the oval brush is just like my beloved blow dry brush but not so hot and damaging and the swivel blow dry head, concentrator and diffuser seal the deal. I’m excited that they now have both a round brush and a .95 inch curling attachment so I’ll probably add those in a few months. I also think your hair type matters. My results are different than my daughter’s. My hair is wavy and holds curls well and i get a similar result with hot tools or the Shark. My daughter’s hair is straight and doesn’t hold curl well and same results with the Shark. For her hair the other attachments are better. So I would say if your hair doesn’t already hold curl don’t expect a miracle, but lots to love for straight hair too! The blow dryer is so fast.

Thank you for great review. I have some thoughts on the round brush attachments. The round brush on shark looks like the other round brushes like revlon or amika. The big brush will give you salón blow out under 15 min and by putting hair in the rollers you can get tighter curl. The dyson roundbrush takes FOREVER to style - I am not kidding you it is like 40-60 min and even though you get tighter curl in the beginning, overall it does not last really…. So I would definitely say point Shark here. I have dyson and I wished for long that they would do a bigger brush. If you want more curl after blowout you could use the wrapping barrels. At least that’s what I do - blowout with Amika big roundbrush + dyson curling wands for some extra curl.

Hi I did mention in this my video! I said idk if this is a pro or con but dyson does seem healthier for your hair and keeps it at a healthy heat level however sometimes I personally want it hotter and Dyson dosent allow for that. So it’s up to you guys if you consider that a pro or con. Shark definitely gets hotterr but you can always lessen the heat which will help make it less damaging for your hair. But in general if you want healthy Dyson seems to keep it at a healthy temp but if you want the option for more of a heat range shark allows for that. So that is up to the individual on what they prefer

Yes everyone has different hair types so it’s all personal preference. To me I have thick course hair So I personally need more heat on my hair to be able to hold curls or else they will fall out that is why I personally do wish Dyson has the option to go a bit hotter as sometimes my curls fall after using the Dyson. As for someone with finer fragile hair that heat temp might be perfect or even too hot for them. That is why It’s up to the individual to consider that a pro or con that Dyson keeps it at a healthy level but dosent allow for more of a hotter level in which shark gives more of a heat range. And even if the highest level is too hot you can always lessen the heat to make it less damaging for your hair. I bought the Dyson long version and then purchased the short barrels separately. My hair is shoulder length. What I find is the shorter barrels are easier to work with. The shorter length prevents the barrels from grabbing extra hair around the section you're trying to curl. I can see how they wouldn't work if you have very long hair but they do serve a purpose.
@jojomojo1592 Жыл бұрын
Technically longer barrel is harder to make. You need to weld them on very precisely.

They look the same…. Also both are bad for hair lol…. You’re curling damp hair…. I think my airwrap was worse for my hair than just curling it with a curler… I use my Dyson supersonic now just to dry my hair and blow dry

Based on your overall review, could you make an in-depth video for how to prep/style your hair using shark for long lasting curls?
@jenrich24042 жыл бұрын
I have both. The Dyson is the original version and I pre-ordered the Shark so I've had it for almost 3 weeks now. My curl holds better with the Shark. It also seems easier to maneuver with the brush attachments and just more user friendly in general. I'm giving my Dyson to my daughter. Now what to do with my Dyson hairdryer?

I have old version of Dyson and I absolutely love it , unfortunately in 4,5 years of usage it started overheating and turning off in 10-15 mins , have tried to resolve with Dyson customer care , but because it’s not under the warranty anymore they keep saying that our team will get back to you but no one from Dyson replied with resolution . But I have to say if your Dyson is under warranty which is 2 years you will get it exchanged in case if you have problems with the machine . Ordering Shark today 😊, thanks for the review ❤

I will say I do wish as a hairstylist that a few tools were used correctly and there were a few mistakes but we are all human I didn’t expect perfection and I use tools wrong too🤣 I had ideas with other tools on how to use them but I will definitely be investing in shark. GREAT VIDEO love that you did each side with separate tools much easier to judge! Honestly u can't even tell they were both done with different tools which is sad considering Dyson is almost 350 dollars more! Shark has brought it lately for real I just got a new vacuum to replace the Dyson my mom handed down to me (which I was obsessed with) and 💯 If I had no limit on money I would buy the shark over the Dyson every time this vacuum is amazing so I can't imagine how good the hair tools work!! Props shark they are definitely next and next with Dyson in my opinion if not surpassing them slightly just based on being more Than half the price generally of any Dyson product on top of their products kickin ass! Lol anyway thanks again for the fantastic video comparison! ☺️

From what I seen, the reason the Dyson wasn’t wrapping the bottom of the hair is because you wasn’t placing the barrel at the same spot you was the Shark. You was allowing the Shark to wrap the hair from the bottom of the sections to the top. With the Dyson you was putting the barrel in more of the center of the section of hair instead. Maybe do it the same next time to see if you get better results with the Dyson.
@cynthiadhimdis2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have been using Dyson for over a year. This is a problem no matter if I start at the ends or near the center.(from trial and error I don’t like starting near the ends because it flys out so I start a little above to help get that nice tension) The suction is definitely less strong and it won’t fully stick my hair at times. With shark if you see in the first wrap I also start near the center and it wraps it around perfect, as it has a better suction. I actually start both at the same spot. When I fast forward I just cut straight to the part where I start rolling up so it might seem as if I started near the ends but if you see the one I did before fast forwarding it shows that I place my hair at the same spot as for when I use Dysons
@yvonnemartinez18032 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response 🫶🏼 I just seen you started the Shark one on the center, but you lowered your hand. And your hand was at an angle. Either way I am interested in buying one of these! Currently in the middle of making my decision. I had bought both the Shark hair dryer and the brand new Dyson super sonic, and by far lengths the Dyson won over the Shark. I also tested them for months and decided to give my Shark to my 14 year old sister 😅 I just don’t want to make the same mistake again. Price difference is big, but I want quality and longevity.
@jvill41182 жыл бұрын
As an Airwrap user, I can attest to the Dyson finding it harder to "catch" the end/tips of my hair to start the wrapping--it's pretty temperamental, especially for the original Airwrap. I heard the newer released Airwrap (that comes with the smoothing tool and the one curling barrel with the direction switch) actually has a little bit of a stronger airflow, so maybe it's not as much of an issue as with the original (and thus closer to the power of the Shark.)

As someone with thick, very dry hair, I'd definitely recommend Dyson over Shark as Shark is just a copy cat of Dyson. I wasted years and money on other products like Bablys before Dyson. Dyson is amazing in design, quality, and function and solved my issues with my hair and is well worth every penny I spent.

I think it comes down to what the consumer is looking for. I want my hair quality to improve..From all the reviews i've been watching.... the Dyson improves the hair because it isn't as hot or pull the hair as hard. But for someone with thick healthy hair.?. i think the Shark would make better sense. because it is so much cheaper.

The reason the round brush is so big is because it’s for people with curly hair, it’s not meant to curl your hair it’s for a blow out look. That’s what both of the round brushes are meant for.

Yes I agree as I mentioned in the video it’s great for smoothing and adding some body while being able to take big sections and the other is better for adding more of a curl so for me personally the Dyson would be better and for people who want more smooth with a soft bend the shark would be better
