Watched a few other channels since then to try other songs and found out how much better your tutorials are. So many teachers just assume the chords are memorized and go from a basic overview into full speed. Thank you!

Hands down the most digestible lesson I've seen on strumming any instrument, I knew it was simple but I could never pick or strum right, now feels a million times more natural than anything I was trying to teach myself. Even started the video thinking, clipped my nails so won't actually be able to do this for real until later. But believe it or not, I kept trying to wedge my finger under there and what do you know but I was able to do it, then actually repeat it the same way. This is one of the first times I've actually felt on a stringed instrument, maybe even others, that I wanted to do it again to hear myself play it like I hear others do it, instead of to try and do it better next time because it wasn't right and never repeatable. Need to rewatch your chord movement video, think it's going to be even better because I'll be watching in a new way. Thank you so much, strumming may seem small which had made it feel so daunting. Maybe I can even learn to make a guitar sound good, I believe ! 🙏🙏🙏

Wow that has been very helpful - thank you. I have been learning to play for about 6 months and only realised today that all of my strumming has been too light and therefore all the notes have not been very clear at all. I just thought what I was learning sounded okay, but after watching your tutorial I know now that most of my strumming has been just scratching the surface of the strings. I could certainly hear a major difference between using my thumb and index finger.

You’re the BEST instructor- for legit anything- I’ve ever listened to. Your clarity and lack of rationalizing your method but straightforward concise and best of all- detailed- guidance is finally making this make sense and now I wish you’d just teach everything I also need to learn in life. Seriously. Other instructors should be watching you so they can drop the endless analogies that make zero sense and their never ending whining need to justify their own styles. It’s wasted time and at the end we learn nothing from them. You remove the artifice and made me not want to give up and throw this thing in the bin and take up target shooting (specifically equivocating male guitarists who end sentences with prepositions.) Seriously. Thank you. This was awesome. ❤️❤️❤️

I'm so, so disheartened. I finally bought a ukulele and I simply can not strum. It took me over two weeks to do DDU UDU three times in a row. I've been trying to hum one note - ONE NOTE (ahhhhhhhhhhhh) - and I cannot strum at the same time. Forget singing and strumming at the same time. I can sing and use my left hand just fine (the easier chords anyway). This inability to strum and sing is scaring me. Do I have right brain dominance? A form of dyslexia? I'm also unable to do any form of choreographed dancing. I'm wondering if the two issues are related. I can free-style dance like nobody's business. I can't find anyone on the internet who has had my issue. I may need to just sell my ukulele.

That's how I started out. I really like the sound of some of the other less symmetric strums with multiple fingernail contacts, though. I think I need to find an instructor to show me those specifically, unless someone has a good reference video to share?

I've been going slow and slowly going faster. That's been helping. Also, I find it helpful to angle the uke just a tad forward (like parallel to my body) since I have the habit of looking at it tilted to I can see my fingers- that helped me. :)

You are marvelous Cynthia Lin!! I felt that I needed to go back and review strumming techniques since I am still a beginner, but I seem to be favoring my thumb. This was an excellent and effective review for me to see on how to "graduate" to using my index finger to strum, and not always my thumb. I was having difficulty doing that transition on my own until I saw your detailed tutorial. Thank you!

Wow! It actually works on me. I used to be do some 'whatever' strum on ukulele, what i think is 'as long as i can hear the melody and it's right then it's okay'. But it harder when i try to strum and there's someone following me to singing. So, i try to learn how to strumming in the right way. And this video actually made it really easier than before😭 thanks a lot. I'll try to learn so I'll used to doin this strum😭❤️👍🙏

Hello there, I'm just starting to learn to play the Ukulele and and came across your videos. I have the soprano version of the Uk and I was wondering where exactly i'm going to strum the Uk. Should I be strumming it across the fret board or closer to the hole?
@soff44012 жыл бұрын
This was the best tutorial for beginner strumming. It’s the first one that actually helped me because I’ve been struggling with this for a long time. And the videos of experienced players telling me I could play with all my fingers and not explaining curved fingers wasn’t very helpful. Thanks again!💛

This was beyond helpful! I was following another tutorial and the guy said to not have my skin catch on the strings when strumming UP. I was having a difficult time with that and didn't know how much pressure to put (he made it look like very light pressure), it was infuriating that I couldn't get it like him, and I've been going at that little portion for a few days. I'm so glad I looked at your video, something so simple as teaching how much pressure and exactly how my fingers should hit the stings can make a world of difference. Thank you so much.

@netta62878 жыл бұрын
Well it doesn't really change. The only way to change it is with the way you strum. Focus with hitting your finger tips against the string. It will hurt for a while but your fingers will toughen up soon enough.

It's probably because it's smaller. The smaller an instrument is, the higher pitched it sounds. Hers is a concert ukulele I think, that's why it may sound deeper. Does yours sound fat or sharp compared to hers?
