CCs really help - especially in anticipating chord changes. Personally, I find picking up the strumming pattern easier by ear (ie playing along) than counting strums but then it’s the same for me with singing & piano. Anyway, thank you for another great lesson.

I just got my first uke two days ago and am already playing my first song. This lesson was so easy to follow. My 6th grade students heard me play my first four chords today, and I cannot wait to play this for them tomorrow. I am trying to teach them that you can learn anything you want at any time; you just have to try! Thank you!

Hi, I'm sorry I read your comment and I have to ask you a very important question: did you struggle with the tuning too? I bought my ukulele some days ago and it seems as it is always off-key... I started wondering if I didn't buy a sort of broken uke, also because I bought a pretty cheap one since I'm a self-taught beginner!

I'm sure you've learned by now that there is a period when the strings are new and will take some time to "settle". After that it should require less tuning. This comment is primarily for others who see your comment and have the same question.

Cynthia does the very best of anyone I have ever seen. I am 73, not musically inclined, and cannot sing a lick. Have been playing for two years, and know most of the basic chords. The only STRUM for me that sounds good is a DOWN strum with my thumb. I have nearly quit several times BECAUSE IT IS THE STRUM THAT ALWAYS MAKES THE SONG. I have been working on CYNTHIA's "STAND BY ME" for three weeks now. She is the ONLY ONE THAT vividly explains THE ISLAND STRUM or THE CALYPSO STRUM or THE HAWAIIAN STRUM. When I get to the point that it sounds OK, I'll post on FACEBOOK. MAHALO CYNTHIA for giving me hope and teaching me. Most ukulele players either don't want to teach how they strum, or they don't want others to know. The answer I usually get is, "Just go with the music." YEAH RIGHT.

I came across your beginner tutorial on strumming and then I discovered that you have an entire collection of free ukulele lessons! I am thrilled. I started playing the ukulele 4 years ago and learned by searching random tutorials on whatever I wanted to learn to play at the time and printing song sheets. I have been practicing just about every day since I first picked up the uke at age 50! lol For me, it is a great source of relaxation therapy. My only regret is that I didn't pick it up 20 years earlier! I have been wanting to find, very good and easy to follow, structured ukulele lessons. I think I have found my source! I already know a lot of the beginner stuff, but I think I am going to just start from your beginner lessons and see where I wind up! Thank you so much for making this available for free! You ROCK!

Always been on the fence about the ukelele. I already play a 9-string and I love that guitar so much. Still my doctor and my friend play the ukelele and I have always been drawn to it, especially with the simplicity to just take it outside the porch and just play and connect with nature. The ukelele's sound is quite similar to my 9-string. Preparing for a show we wanted to learn a positive happy song that would invite the audience to sing along. I stumbled across your video, "Here Comes The Sun". That decided me. I'm now in the process of looking for one. For sure that I will come back to follow along with your tutorials. Thank you for sharing your talent and inspiring many.

Thank you for this! I love that you begin with the song before moving into the tutorial. So often, in uke tutorials, the instruction precedes the song. Honestly, that only works for the first couple run-throughs, after that I find I have to try and remember where the song begins if all I want is to play along and practice the song. This is perfect.
