Not a good analogy. Theres no benefit to working a 9-5. And you work harder and paid less.Struggling for benefits at 60 and 70. Its better to put that attention into ones own business. Yeah you work harder but the pay off is way better. Truthfully Cypher would of chose to run his own business if the movie was about corporations and jobs

When you're young, you don't realize the reality of what it really means to have everything stacked against you. That's why the military hire young and dumb. That's why they sell this bullshit message to kids in movies. Kids want to make a change. What happens is we try many times and many, many lose and we keep permanent damage. So when we are older, we know it's all bullshit, we're tired, and we don't care anymore. We earned the matrix.

As yoda said truly wonderful the mind of a child is. Or the same reason willy Wonka needed an honest loving child to lead his factory take care of the oompaloopas not an adult l, an adult would want to so everything his way not mine. My point is that with morality when were children we have a very good sharp instinct of right and wrong I mean on am empathy level more inhibitions to not hurt others not be bias racist hateful those are all things we have to be taught and our minds our like a sponge absorbing everything we come in to contact with our mindset is not fixed yet were like clay that's constantly being molded different shaped but eventually we become a permanent hardened form like cooking the soft clay pot to hard while children are very naive and susceptible to being manipulated there open minds are a gift innocence is the only true gift were given in the world everything else must be fought for now as an adult I agree morality can get damn confusing but I also feel sometimes that when you've reached the point of being so confused questioning every move of right and wrong then to a degree you've lost sense touch with having a good strong accurate moral compass for the most part our natural moral compass already comes preset working correctly it's when we tinker with it too damn much that it gets screwed becomes off balanced & stops working correctly I do believe it's never too late to put it back in balance and maintain a strong moral compass especially if you have a strong moral foundation also I wont denie that some values & traditions do in fact need to change because they were always wrong like slaver racism but again those are not coming from a place of empathy they come from ignorance fear of the unknown fear of losing power or control so while I contend some things need revamping or to be flat out changed because there wrong & withinthose areas socially politically religiously especially philosophically morality can get confusing but simultaneously we make it more complicated than it has to be if we start from the basic beginning foundation of empathy compassion & symbiosis while also putting into check our fear, greed, entitlement, bias, prejudices, desire for power & control then morality becomes very easy & united we stand divided we fall but that peace is hard maybe (not for certain) impossible to obtain given conflict is inherently in our nature along with needing someone to blame our group tribal like mentality that's very decisive where you have the special in group & the outsiders religious I think negatively perpetually reinforces dividing & enstranging people breeding ignorance and fear of education & higher knowledge such especially science really creates "Us vs. Them" mentality where there's always a bad guy or bad group of people that need to be punished & whipped out genocide even lastly our ultimate fear of the unknown & the insecure need to have answers especially comforting ones even without any evidence to support them unfortunately I do think religious will flourish always to some degree as long as there are unknowns in our universe especially the unknown of death I could be wrong I hope I'm wrong I hope there's a chance even a slim one that within our technological & scientifically more advanced future that more education will breed more empathy compassion & understanding rather than simply scare people & breed more fear & ignorance while I see cyphers point sadly the older I get sometimes feel i wish i didn't know so much about deeper things because at the end of the day it can feel like theres only so much comfort in knowing but there are more important things than comfort & being happy happiness is a temporary state you can never obtain it perminately don't pursue happiness pursue purpose & that will give your life meaning and pleasure is good even necessary for survival but it's not the above all be all goal also things can feel really good even when there very bad for you heroin may feel good but its killing you & worse scenario you could be super high on heroin feeling great while your child is being neglected starving hungry or even out in the cold or sick in that case your own self happiness & pleasure is not the more important thing we have a responsibility to our fellow man to put taking of each other above just our own selfish pursuits of pleasure again were a hurd pack tribal species we absolutely need each other to survive just like religion while so many people think its harmless especially if it feels good gets you through fear of death grief loss of loved ones just like heroin despite all the damage it does it has benefits too not positive but pleasurable it makes you feel good for a while have that warm comforting blanket of the feeling of everything is going to be ok covering over you but it's a lie am illusion there's never anything truly substantially positive to be gained from false truth lies or just things that don't bear enough evidence to warrant belief that there real no matter how good it makes you feel it's always better to face & deal with the truth & reality no matter how cold dark hard harsh it may be so we can learn to adapt as we do very well & live life on it's terms not our live in the real world follow the evidence wherever it leads not lead the evidence towards wherever & whatever we want to support & believe in, as belief is a binary state of either convinced or unconvinced I'm compelled by rationality & logic to believe what is warranted & supported by evidence unfortunately many maybe most people don't there belief is obtained by emotions feelings or rhetoric from there religion rather than evidence also haven't truly given much thought at all to questioning everything as you should always do it's sad that it only are there people like cypher who after being shown the truth would willingly go back to blind ignorance & also all the masses of people who like morpheus said after a certain age couldn't ever really be freed because their minds would collapse they just couldn't deal with opening their mind up in such a huge way there perceptions are fixed in a state of fear ignorance would probably commit suicide if freed it's so sad that's education given to as many people as possible is so so important for our lives our future our children always embrace truth face it head on you have everything to gain and nothing to loose except a comforting lie (& physical sensations of pleasure but unless your hedonistic that's all you live for there's much higher pleasures such as love, companionship, memory, intelligence, & intellectual understanding, family, time & more that are worth more than physical pleasure & comfortable lies & if some pain is the price for obtaining growing then it's well worth don't pray for an easy life pray for the strength to endure a hard one never give up, keep moving forward,

Can you imagine Morpheus pulling the 5 previous guys out of the water and giving that same red pill blue speech, only to watch each and everyone of them die because they believed him when he said that they could kill an agent? How about the rest of his crew who probably witnessed all of them die. Cypher's skepticism is probably the most normal thing about the entire crew. Cypher felt like if Morpheus had told him the real truth, not the truth that the Matrix is a lie but that the real world was much worse, he'd have stayed in the Matrix. Probably me too.

You're empathizing with a 0, with a pon, with a programmed person set up to be a fix for the anomaly of the 1. While it'd be understandable for any other skeptical crew member it shouldn't be for the one person who's name gives you an indication they were specifically created to be a fix in the code to cancel out the 1. This also when in his logic there is no choice and in Morpheus and Neo's there is a choice. Morpheus didn't make the decision for Cypher and he never said he couldn't ask questions. Cypher made the choice and he regretted it; not simply because Morpheus lied but because he never weighted the choices and became he was programmed to regret his decision and want back into the Matrix.

8:35 Something to consider about the host's death being required for the anomaly to manifest, Neo's conversation with the Oracle where she tells him he's not the one. Saying he's got the gift, but he's waiting for something. He asks what, and she sort of quips "The next life maybe, who knows." But if his death was required, then it paints that reply in a whole new light. She straight up told him the answer.

As far as I can remember from the extended cuts, they created the simulations for honing skills and essential activity that helps their greater missions only. As cypher stated in his dialogues, they cannot do anything until or unless it gets an approval from Morpheus. If you notice Matrix movies closely, they cunningly avoids 7 deadly sins to inject a biblical atmosphere where Adam is neo and Eve is trinity.

@riffbw
@riffbw 3 жыл бұрын
I generally agree with this take and I don't think you can judge a Cypher as the One vs the Cypher we see in the movie. If Morpheus had been grooming him to be the one before shifting back to searching for the One he likely broke Cypher at that point. What we see is a very jaded and damaged person, not the fresh out of the Matrix hot shot. He could have been a symbol of hope and bought in completely, but when Trinity realized she didn't love him, Morpheus pulls back and Cypher becomes who we see. But I tend to hold to the idea that Neo isn't the only One, he's just the red pill that gets set up to facilitate the reset. The Architect, Oracle, and Morpheus are all looking for a mind willing to accept the code and perform the reset. It could literally be anyone and the only requirement is having a willing mind. Cypher as a character had all the potential to be the One, but his mind wasn't right to accept the role. He was far to skeptical of reality. If I had to guess, Cypher was the one that could recognize and exploit glitches in the Matrix while not knowing what the construct was and that's how Morpheus located him. Think of the kid bending the spoon, but Cypher was going well beyond that. But when he was pulled out, it broke his mind knowing the truth.

I think what Cypher realized was that "real" was a matter of perspective between the Matrix and being unplugged. I tend to agree with that perspective, though while I would probably regret taking the red pill, I wouldn't betray my friends. But what exactly is "real"? Let's take this, supposedly real, world that we live in. Maybe we are surrounded by a real world, but our experience of it is just a construct of our mind. Things like colors and tastes and sounds and textures and scents don't ACTUALLY exist in the "real" world. They only exist in the minds of sentient beings. For example, the color red doesn't really exist "out there" there are light waves of a specific wave length that our brain interprets as "red" and assigns the subjective experience of red that we "see" when we look at a rose or an apple.

Cypher simply concluded that the war itself was unwinnable and that Morpheus and the resistance were just as manipulative and exploitive of the red pills as the Matrix was to humanity itself. Judging by his age, it's possible that Cypher like Neo was pulled out of the Matrix as an adult. That means he may have left a normal, boring, but safe, existence for a dangerous one full of fear of death by the machines, bland food, and worse, no woman in his life. He seemed jealous of Trinity's obvious attraction to Neo and he spoke to her as a betrayed lover. Perhaps, Trinity reminded him of a wife he had left behind in the Matrix. It may have been the hope of a relationship with Trinity that kept him going. As it turned out in the sequels, Cypher was right in that the resistance in Zion and the war itself was simply another measure of control by the machines. Think of all the comrades that Cypher saw losing their lives fighting the war. Other red pills who had given up their lives in the Matrix to fight a pointless conflict against the machines who offered the illusion of normal life in exchange for our flesh powering their civilization on a ruined Earth. What would the resistance do if they did win and freed billions of blue pills who had no idea how to survive in a world that couldn't grow crops? Billions would die of shock. Others would die of despair over lost lives, finding out careers, marriages, children, families, and friends, were all some colossal lie? Cypher simply figured that being a red pill was a form of living death. Getting a "normal" life back was the only thing that made sense. As for killing his comrades. Cypher looked at them as basically dead people walking anyway because they still followed Morpheus and it was only a matter of time before all of them died in service to him.

The way Cipher words the 'you never brought me food' always made me think he was one of the exceptions of older people who were pulled out, like Neo. Which is against the rules. Which also made me think Morpheus originally thought Cipher was 'The One' until the oracle said, 'nope'. So... to me, Cipher was an adult, ripped out of civilization, and dumped into a hell-scape post-apocalypse, told he was to fight in a war, and 'Oh, you aren't the super weapon we thought you were, be a peon.' who just wanted to go home. Bet all those sims that helped detect if he would betray them were being run when he thought he was 'the one' not once he was janitor on the ship of the damned.

I think way too many people are overthinking the line about steak. He was just using that as an example of how he knows the simulation is a lie. He just ultimately wants the best life experience he can get. Can't get that irl, because you can't just simulate luxury all the time, you need to log out and feed your physical body. Can't get the good life in the matrix either, because he's a fugitive the agents are trying to track and kill. That's why he's willing to negotiate a deal with the agents. They welcome him back to the matrix, where he can have a full-time life of luxury, if he betrays the other red pills.

The darkest secret of the matrix is that they never really woke up. The "real world" was another matrix on top of the original. The architect eluded to it in the movie and it was explicit in the written fiction. It's part of the reason Neo was still able to have some of his powers in "the real world" just not all of them because the code wasn't the same. The real world, in fact, was probably the paradise the architect spoke of. It never made sense to me that the machines would have the technology to create an entire replica of the original earth, but not clean and repair the one they came to inherit.

I can see why Cypher believes Morpheus is sadistic and a liar.. not only the torment of being “freed” then finding out you can’t get your life back, and also finding out you’ve been duped into thinking you’re special but you’re not and now must be a slave on his ship.. but worst of all would be having to watch him kill countless more “redpills” who don’t even make it that far.
@DeathBringer769
@DeathBringer769 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is, as Morpheus explains in the film, no one can be told directly what the Matrix is. If you get too close to telling the actual full truth about the Matrix, if you're still hardline hooked up to the system in those pods, you are still at any moment potentially "an agent of the system" (as Morpheus also explains in another scene) and you get taken over/turned into an Agent if you get to close to hearing the truth. That basically fries your brain (the Agent's program overwriting and running on your brain) and then the Agent tries to kill Morpheus and crew. So he literally cannot directly tell them what the Matrix is, or the full consequences of the choice they are about to make. He can only offer vague hints, and say he is offering them the truth. If he tells them about the real world, the future war, how their current lifestyle will come to an end, etc, he risks them getting turned into an Agent and having that Agent attempt to then kill Morpheus and his crew. So really, there IS a good reason why he has to be so vague. Unlike what you are trying to say, he's not purposefully trying to trick or deceive them, and can't tell them the full consequences of what the red or blue pill will actually mean. So, Cypher complaining about that if Morpheus had told them the truth ahead of time they would have told him to shove that red pill up as his ass, really misses that point either out of ignorance (him forgetting how the system controls and monitors anyone still plugged into the Matrix directly) or just out of sheer frustration even though deep down he knows it wasn't an actual option. Given that, no, I don't think Cypher was "right." He's just of the opinion that ignorance is bliss, which is a valid philosophy to have if you want to go that route, but he wasn't "right" in saying Morpheus directly lied to them and tricked them, in my opinion, given what we know and what is explained and how the system monitors, controls, and can turned anyone who hears too much of the actual truth into an Agent at any time, and how presumably once an Agent takes over your body and rewrites their program onto your mind, there's no going back from that (we've never seen someone who is turned into an Agent turn back into a normal, live human being. They are always dead afterwards. And given how we see in Revolutions that an Agent like Smith can run his program on a human brain and control a human body in the real world, it's very likely to assume that when an Agent takes over someone in the Matrix, they are basically doing the same thing, frying and rewriting their brain, but just controlling them in the Matrix.) I also don't think you can call it "right" to betray and kill all of your crew that befriended and trusted you in the real world, and potentially get every other human being in Zion killed, just because you want more personal pleasure and satisfaction. That's just going too far. So really, if Morpheus tells anyone the truth too closely, it's basically a death sentence for that individual, and could also be a death sentence for Morpheus and his crew if that Agent kills them (and no one before Trinity and Neo has been able to stand their ground against an Agent and survive, as Morpheus also explains in the film, so it would be basically a death sentence if they don't all miraculously escape somehow from an Agent point-blank attacking them.) This is why they hold the gun on Neo when they go to take the bug out of his system. Him seeing that advanced machine to extract the bug (likely hardware from the future that they programmed in to the Matrix and loaded in with them) and seeing the bug itself (a machine from the future/real world itself) was dangerously close to Neo seeing too close to "the truth" while he was still hardline connected to the Matrix, and could have turned into an Agent at any point. The only reason he didn't turn into an Agent there, in my opinion, was because they were still hoping they could follow him and have Neo lead them to Morpheus to capture him, get the codes to Zion, and kill his crew, even if they took out the bug.

The Matrix would’ve been a scary reality to live in for anybody psychologically so I don’t blame Cypher for choosing the route that he did. Killing the members was wrong sure, but realistically a lot of people would’ve snapped and would want to go back to the blue pill world and not be stuck in same loop for a lifetime. He wanted real food too, and he missed that.

The definition of Cypher is a system of writing that prevents most people from understanding the message. It can be used to refer to the encoded message itself or the algorithm that is used for encryption or decryption of said message. Cyphers' character was both the literal and figurative encryption and decryption method for the introduction of Neo as the one. When Trinity said yes to Cyphers question about Neo whilst simultaneously being stopped from killing Neo, which further confirmed that Neo was truly the One, Cypher became the decryption method for the One by requiring Trinity to admit her love and reveal the truth of the One.

This infers that others have tried to be The One and failed. But where they failed, Morpheus felt that Neo would succeed. Earlier in the film Neo interrupts him while he is in front of a bank of screens (the scene where he offers Neo a drink). You see Cypher get really spooked that Neo sneaks up on him, then very casually turn off a line of monitors that appears to show some of those chairs they use to plug into the matrix. The theory is Cypher was interrupted by Neo as he was writing a program that allowed him to get into and out of the matrix without an operator.

Yes, my biggest complaint since first viewing; the 'law' was defined to the viewer: an operator is required to transit the traveler. Bonus: They *ARE* hackers; I would have given credit to both Cypher & the writers/director if they had 1 scene of him inserting a certainly secret boot disk that /may/ have contained macros to micromanage the operator role; alongside a single 2 second clip of the matrix screens & Cyper closing his eyes, done. 5 second shot. Didn't happen. No credits given. Artists chose plot hole. Absolute plot hole.
