B) Accept the job and ruin your own legacy to spite the studio and the audience. C) Accept the job and make a great movie, if you still have the chops. They didn't choose Option C because they didn't have the talent anymore. The Waschowski brothers were a one-hit-wonder. I'm pretty sure that the Matrix trilogy being games was not a studio note - Thomas J Anderson was a corporate programmer drone in the original movie, while Neo was a skilled computer hacker. His ability to see the code and reshape the Matrix around him was tied to his identity as a coder. Turning him into a movie star, or a script-writer or a director would break the basic premise of the entire franchise. Also, having Neo be a programmer explains where Morpheus 2 came from.

We are living in a remix, it's almost the same with music, just to make us all feel old, our 90's and early 2000's music is all being sampled by modern pop stars! Showbusiness has become the Entertainment Industry, there is a subtle but discernible difference: The former is a show, a spectacle, a novel experience that may or may not make money, the later is mass produced nonsense that has been produced solely for the purpose of making money from people who want a show but never truly get one.

As the worlds biggest matrix fan I have watched the original 78 times (yes I counted) it changed my life, it forced me to question my own reality and it made me love movies as my favourite personal interest. This movie is so sincere and exquisite in writing, subtext, allegories, performances etc. I love it for what it is. Any matrix film requires the viewer to upgrade their mindset and to watch it with clarity and vigilance. This film is no different. Like the original it gave me that feeling of reawakening. Rediscovering something for the first time like love or reuniting with an old friend. The film is a beautiful experience and one of the best sci-fi love stories ever committed to film. The visual storytelling on display here is excellent. The biggest irony for me is that the original changed the game, it’s influence on technology, media, culture, etc,it was a critical and commercial success. The pedigree of the original is unparalleled. What’s interesting is that over twenty years later the next instalment is ridiculed, panned, dismissed as nothing more then a sleazy cheap cash grab right? Everyone who didn’t like the film are all saying the exact same thing. Financially the film flopped too. If there’s one thing I know about this franchise is that every film was made with precision, meticulously crafted, it’s no accident or mistake that resurrections is considered a flop. I think the Wachowskis simply had nothing left to say. I don't think there's much depth to the bad film. I've seen commentary where people thought Lana wanted to protect her characters, by accepting against her will to direct a sequel to the trilogy because the studio would have done it anyway without her - but having watched the film, does it LOOK like she is protecting any Matrix lore? This movie ironically likely would have been better with another director anyway.

I dont think it was a question of whether the film would have been better or worse with another director. I think that Lana did not want ANY sequel to be made to the trilogy as it would take away and diminish the originals. This would take forever to explain but if you wanna know the Wachowskis and how much they could not give a fuck about being corporate and still have so much love for what they create? During the first 20 to 30 minutes of this movie I was mesmerized completely convinced it was a *prequel* to the original trilogy. I imagined the matrix was unintentionally created by Neo as a consequence of the AI he created for the games. I imagined Neo uploaded his consciousness to the matrix and that he, as the creator, had admin / world building privileges. I imagined he created the allies and the villains in this world taking people from his own life (including Trinity). I imagined the matrix had to stop Neo for some reason but it couldn't take any of his privileges, so it made him forget everything instead. And I imagined Morpheus was the first consciousness to emerge from this AI and that he would start a friendship with Neo that would lead to the never ending loop that eventually brought us to the original trilogy. It was an amazing movie in my head for a little while. Until it wasn't.

You have to know Bhuddishm, Numerology and the basics of Zoroastrian dualism to say you even watched matrix Resurrections. A genius level event so alienating to its audience it won’t be seen as a masterpiece that it is for years to come. Absolutely loved matrix resurrections. I got no qualms with it whatsoever. That was the whole point! However if you take the red pill, adjust your mindset and rewatch this film again, you’ll see how deep rabbit

The film is a psychodrama about a mentally ill artist, and his friends, family and doctors trying desperately to keep him sane, while the vultures at Warner Bros push him further and further into madness, not just with deadline pressure, but actively gaslighting him, precisely because they think he'll make more interesting work if he's unhinged and if he winds up unaliving himself, they can make big money on a re-release as a "tribute".

It makes much more sense when you realise that studio execs do not care at all if their movies are good. I recall an anecdote about Alien 3, where David Fincher was at his wits end trying to convince the studio execs that the changes that they were insisting on would hurt the film, and they responded that they didn't care. They didn't give a shit that they were hurting the fim, because a good film is never their goal, only a profitable one. Great films bomb all the time, and terrible ones routinely make bank. Bugs indeed sports a tattoo that serves as a visual homage to Bugs Bunny, the iconic cartoon character. This choice is deeply intentional, reflecting both her namesake and the spirit of her character. Bugs Bunny is known for his cleverness, wit, and ability to outsmart his adversaries, traits that Bugs in the film embodies as she navigates the complex realities of the Matrix. Additionally, the reference to Bugs Bunny plays into the larger tradition within the Matrix franchise of using names and symbols that carry deeper meanings and connections to cultural touchstones. Her character, much like her animated counterpart, is resourceful, rebellious, and plays a critical role in challenging the status quo within the Matrix, making the tattoo a fitting symbol of her identity and role within the narrative

Hi. Just wanna add something to your theory that you made, Just a little fun fact. I believe that the Matrix being a game instead of a movie was because Warner Brothers was doing a deal with Epic Games, to show how powerful and realistic Unreal Engine 5 is. I say this is because there is an official Matrix tech demo to show how realistic and cool it looks, and it was released after The Game Awards. It's called "The Matrix Awaken." It's funny that it was quickly forgotten. But here I am today, learning that the disposable tech demo held significance for the plot of the film. Just wanna ring that into the table.

The whole thing about the original Matrix being a video game was to deceive the characters themselves. Wiping their memories completely would have only set off a whole another Rebellion inevitably. But whipping some memories and leaving False memories of around the truth along with a different identity helps keep them where the Matrix wants them. I think people stopping at it being a big FU to WB are missing the fact that it’s a genuinely apt commentary on the general culture of simulacra and repetition. The movie reframes this modern phenomena as almost like the actual spiritual encroachment of the Matrix into our world through the fourth wall.

No matter the actual meta intent it's kinda shitty to put so many resources and hard work to something you're actually trying to make bad. The ultimate meta is that this film is self aware to the point is highlights the importance of all film's value coming from meaning and intentions which was the trilogies greatest strength. The film makes fun of pointless sequels by removing this, highlighting what made the originals so good by reminding us about the first one and showing us how empty a film looks without purpose. At the same time doing her best to end it....genius! Great video. It was the first time I tool beers to the cinema because knew it was going be terrible before hearing anything about it.

Reloaded and Revolutions weren't great honestly. They had something to say, but were rather ham-fisted and (somewhat) badly executed. They had their good points, and had something to say, but they weren't as tight as the original. At the time, I was always hoping they'd uncover the Real World as just another layer to the Simulation, and that Neo was really just another program to control the masses (leading to real character growth from Morpheus to realize that following prophecies are BS). I mean, think about it: everyone wants to believe they're "special", that they're in on some grand conspiracy. "The Real World" should exist as another layer of The Matrix for those who hate conformity. Give them some dreary existence outside of The Matrix and they'll believe the oppression MUST be the reality.
@henrysutulovich660811 ай бұрын
Neo does use the "Force Blast HaDouKen" move in the original trilogy. He used it once, to stop the sentinel in the real world, demonstrating his powers were not confined to the Matrix.
@shayneworkman86902 жыл бұрын
My end take away, I liked it BECAUSE of what it did to give the middle finger to the RIGHT PEOPLE for a change. For the hardcore Matrix fans there were pieces that stayed true, and actually fit as a continuation which I'm sure HAD to be done in order to justify bringing Neo and Trinity back, like pulling from the concept of Neo being able to imprint without actually bringing it up to insult the intelligence of the fans, it also did not reference the Matrix online while still allowing it to fit the canon. I give it style points for succeeding in literally everything it intended to do. She didn't shit on the fans of the OT, she gave a plausible continuation while successfully slamming the door in the faces of WB and their hopes of milking the Hell out of the franchise. It DOES SUCK that it had to be done that way, but I appreciate rather seeing it at the bottom of the ocean rather than in the hands of pirates.

Only reason it doesn't hold up to the first one is that the first movie (and to a degree the rest of them) broke the meta *and* were good movies in general, that still hold up to this day. This one stinks even if you susbend disbelief/inhale liquid shit beforehand/sacrifice to satan etc. It makes you cringe, and is inherently not a good Matrix movie. But as a blockbuster shitpost, this one takes the spot, and probably will for a long time.

The fact that the original story in the movie is turned into a videogame is actually another hefty piece of evidence in your theory. You see, The Wachowskis HATED Path of Neo. They hated it and actually made a joke in the game itself as you reached the end where they completely altered the story of the film so that the player could face a 100 foot tall version of Agent Smith comprised of all the Agent Smiths in what was the worst call for a video game since the SNES turned Darth Vader into a giant scorpion to fight. This is their meta message, that is why Neo resents that the machines turned his life into a meaningless videogame. So in A way they actually were referencing the Path of Neo without being too on the nose about it because it was, after all, designed to be A middle finger to Hollywood and WB in particular.
@motherplayer Жыл бұрын
Admittedly, had a lot more fun with Path of Neo by comparison since it still felt like they enjoyed it to some degree. Straight up putting a bamboo forest fight in homage to sword flicks for one thing at least means they were able to show that fun better, even if it may have been under protest. Hey, I admire Path of Neo in that regard that they were essentially just remaking the series with less self importance and more just being dumb fun and throwing whatever ideas they wanted at the time. As opposed to Resurrections where it's half the creative team, nowhere near the budget or choreography and even it's small bits like Neo and Trinity having more human conversations and feelings that are nice don't really elevate it a way that still makes me confused if this was supposed to be a success for trolling or a failure for not even trying....I suppose it'll just have to be up to the individual if it works, but it doesn't for me.
@BlondeManNoName Жыл бұрын
Thanks for clearing that, but why do you think they hated it? I thought they were involved with it in the same way as they were with Enter the Matrix.
@shayneworkman8690 Жыл бұрын
@@BlondeManNoName Oh they were involved, before the final boss fight they even cut in with a filmed explanation of what was about to be different from how things went in the movie.....And then the game did the worst thing since Darth Vader turning into a scorpion in the old Super Nintendo version of Star Wars. They are Star Wars fans, so I would venture to say they knew about people's reactions to it. I think that was giving WB the finger for forcing a Neo game. Enter The Matrix allowed them to expand on the story of the films themselves, Path of Neo just FELT like it was made because of interest in playing with Neo's powers. It didn't offer anything terribly new to The Matrix universe and when you think of how deep rooted in philosophy that Neo's story was, it meant something to them. I really think THEY never intended for Neo's story to be some quick cash grab videogame throw away.

@EliasMheart5 ай бұрын
Honestly, I had a different read while watching, but I can fully see yours, too. But... This was my experience (as I remember, it's been a bit): I was able to really enjoy it a lot, (aside from the action), the part with Neo at the beginning are awesome, though heartbreaking - the hero we love, broken down to basically a pet, and if he notices, he gets brainwashed. The entire movie handles the viewer as it handles Neo: We don't know what's going on, but we know there's important things wrong with the world. It starts with the first scene, there's so many small details that are wrong - I think, even before the actress-reveal. The sign of the Hotel is different (I think), stuff like that. And then you watch Neo and... he knows that things are wrong, just not how. This is basically how he must have felt before Matrix I, though possibly even worse, because then he had something to search for, at least. But you don't start trying to meet "the most dangerous man in the world" because you are happy. And then he "gets out" (honestly, I expected that to be just another layer, and I can't recall if that was just my gut or if there were hints..), and... hope is just dead. Idk, there were parts I didn't like, but at least the first half I really loved while watching it, once I had "allowed the movie to show me what it wanted to show me"(no idea how to make that clearer.) Still, I can totally buy your theory. It would fit very well, afaik.^^

The videogame designer thing fits with the cyperpunk inspiration of the movies and Neo being a hacker. Other than that and I could imagine Lana slipping Hugo a note to make sure he's "busy," your theory explains a lot.
