One point I feel you didn’t hit on was that when the red pills awaken from the matrix, they have never used their actual muscles before, and the have to go through a process of muscle reconstruction like neo did in the first movie, so if everyone in the matrix awoke at the same time, I don’t think they are going anywhere far any time soon.

I remember that I read somewhere about the original script being changed in the sense that humans weren't going to be used as "batteries" but as parts of an unfathomably big neural network to provide processing power for the machines but the studio asked the creators to simplify and change that concept "because the audience wouldn't understand it".
@psyfozim
@psyfozim 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, I read that too and that has always made far more sense. The robots can't get energy from humans on such a large scale at all. Not only that but they actually have to expend tremendous energy to provide nutrition, monitor health and manage waste at macro scale. Humans are energy intensive cost rather than a source. Humans being the building blocks of a vast neural network or some global cognitive fabric that allows machines to engage in computation that should not be able to (which is why they can grow in intelligence and improve) explains why they have managed to develop to the point that programs recognise their own individuality and are capable of traits that should be unfathomable in machines like engaging in philosophy. Such a good concept compared to 'batteries'.

The battery thing was my biggest issue with the plot setup. The original idea was so much better and could do a lot more work within the narrative. If humans are providing neural capacity to the wider network, that mechanism could provide a pathway for some humans to turn the tables and exploit the environment. I don't know how embellished the battery idea is in the surrounding lore but I prefer to think that Morpheus was just misinformed on the subject!

Interesting point about the first inhabitants of the matrix being the sympathizers. The architect said (paraphrased) that the first Matrix was perfect and was "rejected". That could mean a lot. It could mean that the first matrixians simply realised it's not true and rebelled, and to keep up the deception they had to make it imperfect, like life. It could also mean a peaceful rejection, as in "They were offered a world to live in, but it lacked what made life life". I like that ambiguity.

If the first humans in the Matrix were Volunteers-- would they have agreed to have their memories wiped? Or would they know they're in a simulation? If I were in a perfect reality that I knew was a simulation--I'd try to get used to perfection! But if I didn't know, then both of your suggestions kick in. Either I'd become suspicious or... well what would happen if it just... felt wrong? No rebellion, just humans feelings that things are...*off.* Smith said the humans kept trying to "wake up." Why was that a problem? What would that mean exactly?

Ones consciousness would return to the source which apparently is not on this planet. Unless of course equipment is used to keep energy contained. So the Architect is the Devil. Neo would be the first one to make a full loop inside and out of the program. I see it like venting the planet of an electromagnetic build up that had reached a breaking point so a choice had to be made. Destroy everything or use it for good. Neo restarting is giving life a chance to have free will. As he is a testament to believing in a higher power.

Yet doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result is unwise. Change is always done by stealth in this age and causes pain, poverty, captivity, etc.... but challenge that openly to those doing it and nothing changes everyone wants back in the matrix. Sad, very sad. Stockholm syndrome is bad, but to sleep through your own exploitation and blind regard for the less fortunate that built your comfort is spiritual cannibalism. Peace everyone a war for self improvement is better than a war for status and wealth. Limited options to show regard for others in a pyramid scheme. The matrix was an escalation of limited ideas narrowly focused due to increasing force of will. Is that air your breathing, is your will stronger than a sleeping addict?

@@JustSomeGuyLV No I understand the plot of the film. It is just a film and is not freemasons trying to explain their truth as truth for those who see beyond dogma. The architect does care as he presents a choice but limited to his own will. The one rejects the choices to choose either and diverge from the desired outcome. This is to seek freedom from the will of the other. The oracle is the expression of captivity rejecting freedom in a construct. Awareness of self rather than collective for or against the environment under contention. The architect could no more stand his own rule if he were not ruling. Thank you for taking the time to reply I appreciate your feedback. Stay Safe and enjoy films they are not wisdom.

Unless a body is actually getting old, but then you get into a whole mess of other problems. When neo first wakes up the lights are bright he can't hardly see they say you have never used them. If I am not mistaken in the second Matrix movie didn't the Architect tell Neo that the Matrix was needed to stimulate the minds of people being harvested for body heat energy? I also thought that the Architect said that when they tried with no Matrix that the people would just die.

I always felt that a better storyline in Matrix Reloaded would be to reveal that it was actually humans fighting against other humans (WWIII) that caused the earth to be decimated in nuclear winter. Some of the few remaining humans still alive after the war then created the Matrix themselves to allow humanity to survive and live simulated normal lives. Other humans resisted what they considered to be an unnatural existence and built a city deep underground to survive (Zion). This created tension between the two groups. Sentinels were built to protect the Matrix inhabitants from the Zionist. Some humans plugged into the Matrix started hacking it to "bend it" to their will. The agents were then created as a security/anti-virus system to stop the rouge humans from manipulating the system. This drove most hackers to resist the authoritarian control of the Matrix and begin to rebel. The Agents however were very efficient and were good at track them down and keeping their numbers low. Those that escaped were recruited by those from Zion. As time goes on the humans in Zion and the Matrix are too ashamed to tell their children and grandchildren about the horrible things they did to the planet. Eventually after several generations of machines controlling the Matrix (as they were created and programmed to do) the humans forget their history. The humans in the Matrix come to believe that this is the real world, while those in Zion who are in constant conflict with the agents and sentinels designed to protect the Matrix come to believe that it was a war with machines that scorched the Earth and Machines that enslaved humanity.

Still wouldn't work. There are hard-nosed mathematics of survival that don't care how much knowledge you have. You know what acres of land originally measured? The amount of land needed to sustain a peasant family on grain crops for a year. Naturally, an acre could be huge on rough, rocky soil (requires a lot to grow a little), or small on rich, fertile soil (requires a little to grow a lot). Likewise, there's water purification and heat to deal with. What are you going to burn if there's no firewood? There's only so many crumbling ruins, and salvageable wood isn't going to last long.

@@matthill5426 It's not necessary. The machines can create hydroponic fields. Any molecule is made out of the same atoms and can be reorganized into food or anything. The energy is avaible in form of heat and Sun is still active. The Zion isn't the crown technology of the machines. The machines are already feeding and taking care of the humans. The plants aren't necessary and there are no plants in Zion. But agriculture can be created if wanted. In a world like is in the movies the humanity can plant mushrooms and basically any polyextremophile organism, that can be engineered. The machines can program the software of Fungii or Plants or anything to make them suitable for such environment. The Earth must be covered in large amounts of compounds that can be reorganized into food, fertilizers, artificial soils, sacharids, water, and anything a human would need. The machines are experts in taking care of human beings, they created all that the humanity needs and uses unpluged in Zion or connected in Matrix. They already feed giant poppulation. Shelters would be make from the same leftovers, minerals and what you have around. Humans can survive a lot and despite there is no big option of giant agriculture of the classic type, then you have machines to create nutrients, or if you want, you can put into the pods some brainless animals - we can do it now - and grow a lamb or a dog or cow or a pig or what kind of Meat you like. But of course a new form of agricultures wouldn't be impossible, but you don't need to grow plants like ancient Sumerian or Egyptian, you can do it like 20th century human or 21st or like the machines. You can create Polyextremophile that would grow on trash, all avaible chemicals, geology, remnants of cities, nature and human civilisation. There are many organisms loving to eat beton, metals, anorganic chemicals, perchlorates, acids, hydroxides, oil, silicates, organic compounds or enjoying environments like nuclear reactors. You would combine all good things from databanks of the life or invent new possibilities, then the mushrooms will grow on everything disposable and will be creating final product in a form of nutrients for humans. Metabolism of such fungii would deconstruct trash and reconstruct it into food. With multiple symbiotic organisms like chloroplasts or mitochondrias you can make it more complex than the nature would do. You have also possibilities to simulate all kinds of "plants" to avoid issues in vivo. Those plants/fungii would be written in order to feed humanity and will have little common with our common lifeforms. You can also repurpose the pods to grow anything you need. If the fungal and agriculture option is something that you can't or don't want to do, then a machine can do the same like a metabolism of the fungii. Humans are inventive, inovative and would feed of other humans in the worst case. Cannibalism is common human trait among cultures with lack of the food and it doesn't need any particular survival training, it's a simple form of feeding supported by instincts .

According to the architect, the reason why we have been destroyed 6 times already is because he or more like it, was trying to think in a way that the architect would understand, perfection. Once the architect realized humans are imperfect, "he" let us be. The problem is not machines as much as humanity. If we could live the way they want us to live, "in cooperation", there would be no problems. However, the most fundamental problem is humanity itself. We like to fight, to be in chaos and to be liberated.

@@Mutiny960 LOL! That's like saying being totally gay is what makes you perfectly straight. Since they both know, at the time, that they're obviously in the Matrix, and the Architect is talking to Neo about all of it, then his/it's illusory "creation" is utterly unnecessary and illogical. Therefore, he has indisputably proven by his own "logic" that he is making mistakes and therefore imperfect, simultaneously causing a logic paradox in the Matrix "brain" and forcing it to shut down entirely. If the Architect used your response, and Neo would have said this as his reply, then he would have saved the day without the need to lift another finger to do anything else. Long story short: Neo fucked up.

It's pretty obvious that if all of them woke up at the same time most of them would die shortly after. None of them have used their muscles before and they would all be stuck in the same capsule they were in for many years now. The only difference is they would be trying to get out and their life support would be off. So probably within the first few minutes to a first few hours 99% of them would be dead.

A more pertinent question is...*why* was the Architect created? As alluded to...if the sympathisers were the first citizens, then the creation of the first Matrix would have been an act of kindness by the machines. That explains why it was created to be a paradise. Basically, the machines would have promised to keep humankind alive and insulated from the horrors of the real world, but once all the sympathetic humans went inside, they discovered that it wasn't possible to keep them in a state of happiness, even with the Seraphim in there to look after them. So they eventually came to the conclusion that the best solution was to keep _most_ of the humans as happy as they could through conventional means, and give the remainder something to fight against _in order to keep them happy_ - hence the creation of the prophecy. The Matrix isn't about a power source (c'mon, are you telling me that the machines couldn't re-invent nuclear power?), or about processing. Yes, that's how the humans contribute to it, but it's all in the name of making it as self-sufficient as it can be, freeing up the machines' resources in the real world.
