The fact that they're ALL over the musical map as far as genres go almost what I expected from these dudes. Their music (the little of which I'm admittedly familiar with ) touches on a pastiche of musical styles.

Everyone is always surprised that rappers listen to music besides rap. Which should be obvious; if one listens to rap themselves. Rappers don’t sample, and thus don’t draw influence from, other rappers. That’d be biting. You want to be original. Pull ideas from sources your peers either don’t know, or haven’t used yet.

I remember seeing Fab Five Freddie interviewing Cypress Hill around the time they released Black Sunday. FFF asked Cypress what they were currently listening to and started naming off a bunch of hip hop acts. B-Real and Sen Dog said that they had been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath. That made sense because they sampled "Warning" and "The Wizard" in their song "Ain't Goin' Out Like That". Sen Dog went to high school with Dave Lombardo and said the first live band he ever saw was Slayer playing at lunchtime at their school.
@ramonw9430
@ramonw9430 2 жыл бұрын
Dave Lombardo dated Sen Dodog's sister and always took time to talk with him about music even though Cypress Hill wasn't big yet and Slayer was part of the Big 4. Sen Dog always respected him for it. They would even occasionally crash each other's interviews and record signings, etc. just to say hey to each other.

Once I finely listened to the entire album from beginning to end, did it's high praise become founded as opposed to just being defaulted to. Which makes sense because it's a concept album. Definitely greater than the sum of its parts(tracks). And it is to this day, still my #1 fav album. I think pink Floyd's true genius is lost on a lot of casual(or even diehard) rock fans amongst the bands strong association w drug culture. Atleast that's how it was for me prior to hearing dsotm. The topic of drugs being brought up everytime PF is mentioned, lead me to believe it was probably getting more of the spotlight than it should. Anyone else share this sentiment?

Is being into rock open minded? I mean if it’s like Zappa or Beefheart yeah, but I was in middle school like a decade ago, and EVERYONE (including my dumb ass at the time) was some old school rock purist saying how amazing zeppelin and Pink Floyd are and how shitty rap is. I liked wu tang and shit but I’d shit on dudes like lil Wayne Bc I was ignorant and didn’t know what I was talking about. Then I actually became musically diverse and a huge hip hop head and found actually experimental music. I still like rock but I don’t think Pink Floyd and that stuff requires you to be this super open minded individual honestly I think hip hop takes a more open mind, because its wayyyy more given this stigma of not being music, and being about the same thing, and all these other bad nonsense arguments. Like when I was a little kid the ONLY artist I knew like every song by was the Beatles, I think a lot of kids are like that Bc the music is so easy to gravitate to. I liked some hip hop too but my parents didn’t play that as much as the Beatles. Honestly I think it’s pretty easy to get into ANY genre if you’re like looking to like it, but it’s easier if you don’t have a favorite already.

Ride The Lightning is such an incredible album. I sometimes like it more than Master of Puppets.

Couple seconds in: Pink Floyd dark side of the moon. that makes perfect sense, and I hear the influence in their music. The psychedelic hazey vibe in Cypress' songs.

What a decent pair of guys very articulate and down to earth.Excellent music choices too.I did buy the black Sunday album many many years ago mainly due to MTV’s heavy play of insane in the brain.The whole album was brilliant though and very unique like the band who recorded it.Superb imagery and DJ muggs is phenomenal!I no longer listen to rap or hip hop anymore but I still recognise these fellas as originators.

Growing up, a lot of fans of hip-hop and alternative rock would make fun of me for liking metal. It's not healthy to hold on to that kind of resentment. It's good for me to see this. Not all fans of hip-hop think the same. Thank you for making this video

Soul Assassins! To me you guys were the only ones in Hip Hop who could deliver the full weight of mythological and philosophical themes in word and music, merged with topics of the modern times at that time, the full package; reality meets mindscape. You guys always paint the full picture.

The Root Down EP was my proper introduction to the Beastie Boys when I was 13. So many great memories. Went missing years ago and have never replaced. Need to get back on that. Love that era of the group. Combine that with 'The in sound from way out', and it makes for one hell of a great double feature.
