I'll be totally honest with this one, I was not sure about it at first but I really like how you got that tree to be so colorful. I enjoyed watching you carve out the sky and add different colors to the branches, it really works! I love it!

I have just started to reuse old panels and canvases - but gave them a light sand and a couple of of coats of gesso primer - the previous work was lumpy! So i followed your example and many old masters did the same!

Did you use acrylic gesso over an oil painting? I paint directly over the old painting because I don't want to deal with oil priming.
@ianbrowne8871
@ianbrowne8871 Жыл бұрын
I used an acrylic gesso primer and gave it a couple of coats using an old credit card rather than a brush. The second layer went on an hour later. i did a whole batch so I have a stock of board ready to use for studies - just hope they do not turn into masterpieces!! @@chamberlainpaintings

Watching you paint over an old painting trains the brain to see the new possibility. Maybe I really don't have to cover up the old painting after all. As for squinting, I just take my glasses off these days.

Really like the way this one turned out! Is the texture of the old paintung come through the new one? I had trouble with an acrylic painting that I had done when I painted water over mountains.

Hi Michael! Do you ever use an orbital sander over an old painting on panel, or is that overkill? Lovely outcome. And it is refreshing to see that cool fog and someone needing a jacket this time of year. Thanks for sharing!

Wholly agree that composition and design are fundamental. My painting buddy has really poor eyesight so he has to simplify, he cannot hope to do detail. He jokes about being gifted with eyes that squint naturally and having never seen the detail, he doesn’t feel inhibited leaving it out. His perception of colour is very good but it’s his sense of design that is on point. I’ve learned a lot from him about decluttering both my paintings and paint box.

Great work. I like the loser look and the color mixing. Interesting added challenge of working over a vertical old painting while holding a camera in one hand. (Do you paint looking at the screen?). Challenging. I'm curious how wide your 8 and 6 are in mm or inches? Every brand is different. Thanks!

White water provides angles and pattern in the waves The scenery is the raw material for the design he craves A reused panel may throw him off balance No worries; problem solving just one of his talents Warms up green with alizarin crimson Squints to keep things loose; battle’s been won Temperament fits composition simple and strong Check out Pa-tre-on; you can’t go wrong 🌊 I love this location. The painting is beautiful. The colors, the composition and the brushstrokes are all stellar. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛

Good Morning Michael, apologies, I’m A day late, truth is a relative of mine perished in July, even though it’s been a few years , always a tough month. I put this in type, because I just very recently heard , , That speaking out loud, memories that perhaps reside in a painful place, may be more , , self understood , , being in a , subsequent thought moment now, it’s like a sequence that plays, then, reverses, , then repeats, , . . . Thinking now , in a metaphorical sphere of perception, visually, as in your paintings, I’ve always seen images, patterns, abstracts, it varies, also , I think people have , emotion vision, probably not listed as any of the 5 senses, however , the total perception as experienced through living the human existence is a complexity of continuous evolution.
