I like the ending, how it shows Peco, A.K.A. the Yggdrasil tree sprouting in the desert. As if when it becomes a full tree, it'll revitalize the area with it's magic.

More importantly it showed myria how wrong she was and that humankind no matter what will survive the odds and live for a better tomorrow. Peco sprouting in the desert is proof of that, that the cycle brought on by myrias control is now forever broken, also proving the obstacle the desert of death is no more and the work will be reclaimed in time.. no matter how long it takes.

The scene after you beat the D. Lord always kinda made me depressed. And in the ending, seeing that Peco had planted himself in the desert was a bittersweet moment, especially with the music playing. You just know, like Bunyan said, "spring comes.... The animals return and life will get a little easier."

I think of it like this: the main characters can only appear as fully grown sprites at this, the very end of the game, once the false goddess has been defeated. Symbolically, this is their true form without Myria interfering in their lives and treating the whole world like small children.

Deis returns as a powerful sorceress who knows the secrets of election the past. Most of the Master NPCs are removed from the beginning plot, but Deis serves as one later on in the game.

Ya know, I typically don't like endings where everything is left up to the viewer or reader to interpret. But this one is quite the exception. I mean, everything is left open to interpretation and that's the beauty of this game: It has a lot of mystery to it.

It's not about the mystery, but the theme: Myria thought of them nothing but children. Children she didn't notice survived impossible odds, were able to fight against the corruption in the world, find legends, crossing the uncrossable sea and surviving the desert of death. They did everything, only to be able to demonstrate to that fake goddess they were able to take care of themselves without her "help". As Deis said, "they are stronger than they seem".

Finally I finished after 27 years! I am so happy! English is not my language so sorry. I use the words I know. I started to play RPG to learn it. At least a little. My childhood frustration. What a hard game! Oh God I was very tired when I finally reached Myria Station. Best game I ever played in my life. The only I cried. I will miss those guys and girl and of course Peco. Loved the baby onion or Yggdrasil. I'd never finish without him. So wise always beating Myria with his speech. She is a liar demon since first game and has to be destroyed again. Period. I'm a father now. My wife and daughter loved him too. Funny I didn't like him when I was young. Living and learning. Best tank, best character at all in my opinion. Had to replay a bit more because of him. 😢 My favorite game in franchise. This, I and II. Didn't enjoy IV at all. It is more refined, more beautiful, bigger world but also it is too easy and I think If something is easy it is not worth It. It ruined the story telling for me. Main antagonist didn't look so overpowered as it looked in the beginning. V never played. Never seen it being sold here. Maybe I try to emulate someday. 6 doesn't exist 💩 I hope someday Capcom relases a VIth game as this masterpiece deserves. 😆

@HugoMUTHAFUKKINBiggs Well, usually in these types of stories (most stories, actually), being a "god" simply implies that you are a being SO powerful that you're able to do godlike things. They're probably just a race thats super powerful. Notice that Deis' true form is a Naga body, (though u meet her in human form) and you notice her sister, Myria, turns into a giant naga form (like Deis, just...battle ready) when she decides to actually fight you.

@AliB247 Thats pretty much what the group was fighting for. Ryu was fighting just for his sake to live since he's the one with the power (and since he's the silent hero i guess its up to us as the players to determine lol) He easily didnt have to go on his adventure but one thing leading to another got them all the way across the desert. And teepo was in ur party but rei and teepo have always been the trouble makers from day 1. Myria locked up Teepo, and ryu and teepo are the last of the brood

Ryu is one of the last of the Dragon Brood. Nina is still Princess of Wyndia. The game actually starts with Ryu's childhood and there's a timeskip. Ryu meets Nina when they were children and were in an adventure and met again as adults where Nina ends up joining Ryu in discovering the truth about the Brood.

I'm working on a script for a seuqel to this game. Sent a few concepts to capcom to no avail. Guess Ill have to mod it myself somehow, dont that just beat all? BOF3 is an awesome game, on my top 10 along with Sonic and resident evil and an array of classic games. Games that taught you morals and a spiritual way of looking at the world. Not death and destruction like MW2 and cod games are teaching kids when I was playing this at their age. Guess its up to us to save the world us 80s babies ;)

I've played all the BoF games and although 3 was good, I have to admit that the plot was a little thin and the ending was a little lacking. I really think Capcom could have done better then that...

For me, the biggest miracle to happen is when Capcom go back to their classics, somewhat remaster/remake their classics and bring it to modern platforms, but right now, they're pre-occupied by Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Dragon's Dogma and Pragmata. so chance is are low

Kurachi84 You start the New Game+ (i.e. killed Myria, watched the credits to the end and saved your data) back at Dragnier and gets to keep everyone, xp, items, etc. It basically backtracks the storyline to right before you face Myria. About the the items, they're special baits and fishing rod you get from the fisherman at the ? house in the Urkan region. You need a very high fishing score. This same guy gives you a Fountain Pen, which allows you to swap skills without using Skill Inks, if you reach maximum fishing rank (9500+ points). Those items can only be obtained at New Game+. Hope it helps! :)

plus u can watch ryus dialouge with teepo to see why its the bad ending. that explains the plot a little. Myria and Teepo jus feel like the power of the Brood is too dangerous to be left uncontrolled so she locks them away. Ryu is a good dude tho so her judgement is unfair. She gives Ryu the decision, he refuses, and they scrap it out. lol Ryu was wrong for swingin first but lol only if u take it to court. only plot hole tho is why did teepo still have his power to fight ryu with?... but yea...

@AliB247 This ending is the good ending because Ryu decided to keep his power and fight for his right to live. He could have given up his power as a friend of his did but that wasnt really "living". The bad ending is the "bad" ending because he gave up his power and was locked away from the world in an artifical room that looked like a beautiful place, when in fact, he was alone, powerless, and had to live out the rest of his years like that. The fact is, Myria isn't actually that bad, she doesn't want Ryu to keep his powers because it could destroy the world. She was kind of right, she tried to keep the world safe, but to kill the brood was just too much.

@roguegirl29 Sorry you seem to misunderstand... I ve never played BOF III and don't even know the storyline. To me the good ending looked bad and the bad ending looked good. I've played the other BOF's except for three. I was hoping someone could explain this one to me cause someone else explained the bad one to me before. But I love the way you judge intelligence off a video game... where's as I judge it off exams and studies. But if you know the game so well, you wouldn't be doing well in them

I'm probably in the minority here, but I hate Myria. I've beaten TMNT, Contra, all the Final Fantasys all the Dragon Quests, Hell, even the US Ninja Gaiden 3, yet Myria ALWAYS gives me trouble. I'm doing a BOF Marathon and realised why I hate Myria so much in this game. Partly for th 20 minutes of text you have to wade through to fight her.. Dragon Lord aint nuthin on this bitch. So yeah, I just got done dying and decided to just watch the ending. I HAVE beaten her legitimately...once.

Also, I had to play the game with no help, bet most of us all did, an I had to use my head alot, its fun , its challanging and you have to use your head, hope they make a remake of BoF 3, psp download don't count as a remake.

@AliB247 Sorry im writing so much lol So anyway, you confront Myria. She tells you to stay with her to keep the world safe. If you AGREE, then you end up just like you found Teepo. When you challenge and beat her, Myria no longer is able to control the planet. Myria fears that the world will once again destroy itself, and her sister convinces her otherwise. It's said the desert would swallow the planet without Myria, but at the very end it shows a plant sprouting from the sand.

@AliB247 So, across the ocean Myria, has basically locked the world down out of fear of humans destroying themselves. (notice, there are no working machines where you start the game.) In Myria's station, you find Teepo, who was convinced by the goddess that the power of the Brood was too powerful to be allowed to walk the earth. When you disagree to see it his way, he attempts to kill you. (like Myria.) Teepo wasn't BAD. He wasn't any more bad than Myria was. He just thought he was right.

He wasnt shown at the end with the others, and they dont really seem to care (lol) but the last sceen of the plant shooting i think is yargariss (peco)

Heh reminds me of me, I played BoF IV first and when I looked into the other games Ryu and Nina were in all of the games. Basically, they are different incarnations each game, in I-III you can say they always descend from the same lineage as the previous incarnations, except in IV and V which were intended as independent from the first trilogy.... Although I like to personally put V before I and V after III.

Thanks for uploading this; I have fond memories of playing this game when I was in high school; I've been hooked on BoF series since I played the first game :) Though I enjoyed the game, I have to say that BoF 2 and 4 have the best storylines of the five games. Even the producers of the third game had to admit that the plot was a little thin and the ending was somewhat lacking. I wasn't bad but could have been better in my opinion.

Veri7a We usually craft our worldviews around fiction or biased non-fiction. The fact that it's a video game does not matter at all when there is a strong message. Breath of Fire 3 actually influenced me when I started to realize that it exposed a kind of evil I blinded myself from; maternal love. I'm hardly saying it for a personal level, but I mean that the world is suffering from overprotective mothering and what the state does to protect people is making them live life in a way that is worse than fighting through it. And, Disgaea is crap in my opinion (except for the gameplay). It's practically one-dimensional and that quote that the other user gave just helps prove it. I do appreciate some of what happened at the end of the game, but I find it hard to forgive them for making most of the game so shallow to sacrifice for great entertainment.

Actually, forget what I said about Disgaea. It's message is actually great. I realized that the difference between Breath of Fire 3 and Disgaea in the meaning of story is very equal. Breath of Fire 3's message was something I should have already realized by myself, while Disgaea had ideas that I just spent my life thinking about, so I disregarded them as being important.

sigurdtheblue I found the game's story repetition as an issue too, but that's how it is supposed to be done and how I would do it. When we hear things in an age where there is too much information for critical thinking to survive easily, then we need to hear a message many times before thinking that it is more than just entertainment which does not apply to us. Obviously, it still does not work that often. I guess it needs to be coupled with memorable writing (which Disgaea had, but not to the extent it needed to on a serious note.)

@AliB247 This is how the game went. The whole point of the story is that in Ryu's attempt to find his friends, he finds out he was part of something much bigger than what everyone thought. His race was extremely, EXTREMELY powerful (obviously to challenge a god and win), so the goddess watching over the planet deemed them too dangerous and had them destroyed. I think she did this with the help of her Guardians (like Garr and Geist). So, we fast forward to whats happening in the game. Read V V

Basically, Myria once watched over the planet, and saw as humans destroyed the planet and themselves. Because of War (probably nukes or something) most of the planet is covered in desert. Because Myria sat and watched it happen, she decided to make sure it never did again. She barred off the desert with the Ocean, removed machines from humans (so no more warfare), and destroyed the brood (to make sure the little life left didnt get destroyed.) None of them were bad. Just a bit flawed.

Very weak ending for a game with such good little episodes. it's a pretty selfish decision and the main villain doesn't even feel remotely evil. The ending where he lets go of his powers is honestly no different in comparison to the true ending.
