CZ "457 Lux" 22.lr Rifle

The CZ 457 has a number of improvements over the previous 455 model. I had zero issues with the rifle, an absolute pleasure to use.

After watching many of your very well done videos, I subscribed. I live in the American Northwest and have hunted small and large game for a bit over 50 years. In my older age, I have become quite interested in rimfire rifles as I was in my youth and accuracy is the goal. I have a CZ 452 American, .22lr that, after experimenting with action screw tension and various ammunition, have finally obtained what is the ultimate in accuracy with this rifle. At 55 yards, using Aguila 40 grain extra velocity cartridges and with the action screws hand tightened "very snug"... This rifle shots into virtually the same hole! Presently, the rifle is equipped with the same Leupold M8 4x scope that has been on every other .22 rifle that I've used for shooting small game since I was a very young teen... I plan to up-grade to a Leupold 3-9 on this rifle soon. Action screw tension on my particular 452 was critical in obtaining that level of accuracy! The tighter, the better and I don't own an "inch-pound" wrench, so go by "feel" as I've done for years and that always seems to get the job done... I also picked up a CZ 457 in .17 HMR and will be mounting a Leupold 4-12 on it this week. I expect that it will shoot very well and will be back to report what it does... That shooting will be at 100 yards. Thanks for putting out the high quality and knowledgeable videos that you do! I just got one with fantastic wood. Installed a 4.5 X 14 Burris AO scope and did 5 rounds all touching at 50 yards. Very impressed.

Great review mate, although I wouldn't say 1K is a "budget" price for 22lr, there are a handful of other big manufacturers that offer .22LR around the $600-$700-$800 mark in Aus.. but yes definitely not the most expensive rifle and for the build quality and accuracy the 457 is great value

Thanks for the review. I own a CZ 457 American and the varmint series and both are a pleasure to shoot. Topped with moderate priced Bushnell glass they both print moa no problem with Federal or Geco rounds. I agree, good quality for the money.

Nice one Ozzie. CZ's are cracking little rifles. I think the sub sonics often hit a little higher than hi-speeds, something to do with the recoil arc being higher angle when the slower bullet leaves the barrel.

I own a CZ 455 .22lr Varmint 16" barrel and it's unbelievably accurate. 1/2 inch at 50 meters no problem. It encourages you to stretch out the distances, 125 - 135 meters on crows etc. Cracking guns at real world prices.

Really enjoyed your video and review on this rifle. I have a CZ varmiter and mounted the Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 rim fire scope and getting sub MOA groups at 100 yards with Federal gold match rounds. Hoping to go 300 yards with a Area 419 30 MOA scope mount and my Leopold 6-20X50 scope. Gotta find time to experiment with that. Thanks for posting.

I put a big old scope on mine with the Leupold Rifleman rings. It looked ridiculous and the stock would require a very high riser for a good cheek weld. Going to run it with irons until I can find a short scope that will work well.

I bought a 455 lux .22wmr about 6 months ago. Its a great rifle but the 455 lux only came with 20 inch barrel in .22WMR . This 457 Lux is exactly what I wanted when I bought the 455. Now I'm arguing with myself to upgrade my 6 month old 455. Thanks for the review!

Back around 1990 I used RWS "Dynamit" red box (standard velocity) to put 10rds into a single .3" hole at 40yds, since then I've seen many shooters test RWS but it's always their HV, I wonder why, when their Standard velocity did so incredibly well for me, and that was merely through a cheap chinese copy of the Browning SA-22!

Hey Ozzie! I’m looking to get my first ever rifle! (After getting my license of course) I have done some research and I really like the lux and premium 457, so I will be getting one of them hopefully. Just a question about the hogback stock and using it with a scope. I plan to use iron sights in the beginning to learn how to shoot with them and then in the future want to get a scope. Bloke at the shop told me I may have issues with “connecting” to the gun as it’s better to have a rifle with a high straight comb when running a scope and the models I was looking at are more suited to open sights based on the comb. Curious about your opinion and how you felt shooting the lux with a scope. If you or anyone else has some advice, I’d appreciate it! Cheers

I wish CZ would drill and tap the receiver for standard weaver mounts rather that use the dovetail grooves. But I do appreciate the new safety and shorter bolt throw

I Just purchased this exact rifle for around 424 USD. I live in Texas and have always wanted one of these. If anyone knows how this rifle stacks up next to the heavy barrel series varmint by CZ, I sure would like to know. I figured there would not be much of a difference so I wanted the 24" barrel and went with this one, also the iron sights are a pulse. I want the best accuracy.

If the rifle uses the same kind of magazines as the 452, it can also be loaded when the magazin is in the gun, in case you only have one magazine and are afraid of losing it in the field.

Would you recommend a Cz457 over the Lithgow rifles? I’ve always been a CZ guy, I’m just curious.

My local shooting range has had czs on loan for 15 years, as you can imagine they're getting old so they recently bought a bunch of lithgow's as replacement. In the 2 years they've had them they had too replace as many lithgow's as they've replaced cz's since the beginning. Lithgow's firing pins are flimsey he was saying

Just be careful with subsonic rounds with CZ's. I have had a CCI subsonic bullet lodge in the barrel. CZ USA has a warning, "Additionally, use of .22 Short, Long and ‘Sub-Sonic’ ammunition isn’t recommended because of the tight bore. This is not to exclude quality match or target ammos, which may remain sub-sonic in speed." I would be careful if you fired a shot that did not feel or sound correctly.

I'm selling my la101 in 22lr to make way for a 457 precision trainer. The lithgow was a shooter too with zero issues. The aftermarket mods and barrel swaps for the cz are great.

Hi Ozziereviews, are the original sights still usable if you were to remove the scope and rings or has the rear sights been adjusted down to allow for your scope? Just wondering if it would be worth removing the rear sight completely if fitting a scope or possibly fitting higher rings, giving you more scope clearance and allowing you to keep your sights adjusted which can be used right away should the scope be removed.
