This week on the Vickers Tactical Channel we have the rare CZ 805 BREN A2. During our trip to Sellier & Bellot in the Czech Republic last year, we filmed a video featuring the CZ BREN 2 (Link Below). After the success and interested in that product improved version we knew we'd have to go back and show you where it started from.

The thing I love about this channel is you're basically getting a weapons review from a former Tier 1 Operator. Even some of the most informative and well-researched gun channels are still from a civilian, "never-had-to-use-a-weapon-in-combat" host. Don't get me wrong, they're still great, still offer a lot of valuable information. But when a guy who's actually jumped out of helicopters and airplanes, swam in rivers, hiked through mountains and cleared rooms says, "I think this is a great idea" or "I think this is a bad idea," you know you're getting a great assessment on a weapon's capabilities.

The first gen was (and still is) extremely unpopular among soldiers. Ergos are shit, the rails are sharp and they eat up your gloves like crazy. Reliability was horrible. On the first deployment with Brens (to Afghanistan), 48 out of 530 went down, there was an instance of six rifles going down simultaneously during combat in a single unit forcing six men to go down to their sidearms. Insiders say that CZ did not have the money and the experience to build a modern fighting rifle, they have been making hunting rifles and handguns exclusively for 50 years at that point, so they essentially put out a prototype gun to raise the funds and figure out all the kinks. But since CZ is a domestic company and the competitors were not, the ministry of defence gave the contract to them. The gen2 Bren is what the rifle should have been from the start and is in fact the first real generation of the 805 rifle.

The Bren 805 Carbine (Gen 1 Civilian) even with it's weight and ergo issues is a pure joy to shoot and the factory trigger is excellent. I generally find short stroke gas piston guns to allow for easier sight re-acquisition, but that's just my preference. The Bren 2 Pistol (Gen 2 Civilian) is incredibly light, smart and handy, plus the factory ergos far exceed the Gen 1. The gas block adjustment on the Gen 2 is clearly an improvement and can be modified to match a suppressor if so required. That said, the Gen 1 trigger and ambi safety selector still holds the edge in performance, but can be upgraded on the Gen 2. Larry - thank you for all you do. I respect your opinion. Rock On !!!

Probably one of my favorite rifles. I've always considered it a 556 version of an AK but with better ergos. The smoothest shooting rifle I have ever shot too. I have no plans to ever get rid of mine. One of my boys will get it one day. I understand the negatives on the rifle. What i don't get is If this was a AK the negatives would be shrugged off as not being a big deal because it is what it is. Great Vid! Thx
@fanta4897
@fanta4897 4 жыл бұрын
When you're replacing design comparable to AK with something which is not that much better, then you fucked up since soldiers will always demand the older gun that they trained with, or some other gun which they rightfully deem as better (even if the alternative would be some worse gun but battle-proven, it would be preffered by soldiers). That's basically why you need to have significantly better gun if you decide to replace it.

This thing looks neat, but I have always wondered why they went for an AR18-platform instead of re-engineering the .vz 58
@LRRPFco52
@LRRPFco52 4 жыл бұрын
Vz.58 isn't friendly for modern upper receiver designs with a 1913 rail integrated into it. It was designed to be able to be topped off with stripper clips with a stripper clip guide integrated into the carrier. Reminds me more of the SKS bolt carrier and gas system. Ever since Hk copied the ArmaLite AR18 operating system, several other companies have jumped on that bandwagon, especially the FN SCAR. The AR18 carrier allows you to elongate the cam pin helix so that you have a rotating bolt locking system that stays locked longer.

@@ozdavemcgee2079 A Finnish friend of mine had the short version, select fire. The first round I fired, this little pin fell out of side of the receiver onto the ground, where we searched for it and don't recall if we ever found it. It was grey with a half dome head on the pin. The enamel finish CZ used on the Vz was definitely nicer than AKs though and I like that it has last round hold open.

For the mention of the issue with the safety and pulling the bolt back at 1:21. I have one of these (granted of course it's semi-auto so I'm not sure how this carries over to the full-auto trigger pack) and you can pull the BCG back & let it go forward when it's on safe when the hammer is down. If the BCG is forward and the hammer is up then yes you can't pull the BCG back. Also one nice thing I like about 805 over the AR is the ability to put it on safe even when the hammer is up. I love mine but man I wish it came with the ability to use a different grip on it.

Close quarters combat weapons during the war in Ukraine are a tough sell (literally, if you're a nation instead of an individual). But if this was the Vietnam era, this would be a dream weapon. On the other hand, for home defense - Yikes! There's a longer barrelled version, so maybe for modern militaries also - maybe. I still prefer the Sako RK-95 (civilian M92S) for it's medium range effectiveness.
