I'm a little late to the party but I'm also in the process (near the end actually) of fully modifying my SAO SP-01 for maximum performance. I did the basics and polished every moving surface to a mirror finish, then installed a CGW SAO Standard package trigger kit, which I also polished and hand-fit by running a lighter/soot over the hammer catches and sear and accurately polishing any rub/high spots under a digital microscope with a jig to hold everything square, the process took about 5 hours of arduous assembly and reassembly and careful polishing with 2000 and 3000 grit paper and some 30,000 grit diamond powder paste. I shimmed the sear cage against the frame too after noticing about .010" - .015" thou of movement between the cage and frame when pulling the trigger up against the wall, it made the pull extremely crisp and light after installing the shims (two 3/32" wide squares of .015" thick paper bonded into place, inside the C-shaped channels on the back of the sear cage). I also removed the firing pin block plunger and cut off the leg of the FPB lifter, which has brought the reset distance down to about .060", on top of my pull weight of 1.8 pounds which is my favorite part, I have basicly turned my originally DA/SA SP-01 (the newer Competition model) into a Shadow 2 SAO. I've also installed a DPM systems recoil buffer rod, a CZ frame buffer and a 6oz tungsten weight under the muzzle. Now it is on an entirely different level than it was when I bought it stock, it's insane how fast this gun can run now. I'm amazed by how much can be done with the 75 platform, it is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of pistol in the world...
@korazjian52512 ай бұрын
How much did this run you all together? I’m thinking of doing this with mine but is it justifiable vs just buying one lol
@TheExplosiveGuy2 ай бұрын
@korazjian5251 It wasn't cheap for sure, but I did all the installation, polishing, lapping and hand fitting on my own (I worked 17 years as a machinist so I'm comfortable doing my own gunsmithing) so I saved a lot of cheddar there, that would have cost close to $6-700 in gunsmithing fees alone. My total costs have been close to $2000 (not including the base cost of the pistol😬), but I've put in a few extra things since posting this that aren't totally necessary, though helpful, so you could realistically expect to spend half that for some still damn fine upgrades. I recently installed a CGW threaded barrel with a Volker Precision MK2 compensator, a dovetail optic mount with shield RMS red dot, a Cross Armory thumb rest with custom molded grip surface, and a CZ Customs flared magwell and Toni Systems short grips. As it stands my total cost, pistol and all, is right around $3500 (not including any gunsmithing costs, it would have been even higher had I paid a gunsmith) which being realistic, I paid way too much, had I started with a gun that was cheaper or already had most of those upgrades stock such as a Stock SP-01 for cheaper, or a Shadow 2 or TSO I could have kept my costs a lot lower but you live and you learn. The base pistol cost $1500 after taxes which was a bungle on my part, they fell in price a year later and can be bought for $900 new now, but whatever. I still get tons of complements from other competition shooters, the CZ guys fawn over my SP-01 more than their own higher end guns lol, it outperforms almost all stock guns regardless of cost, it's more or less tuned to perfection so I love it, high costs and all. But anyway, I'm getting long winded, you could expect to spend about $600 or so to get the upgrades I did that really matter, like the CGW SAO trigger upgrade kit w/t race hammer, CGW flat face trigger, DPM Systems 3-stage buffer spring, and a CZC frame buffer pad, those upgrades will really snazz your gun up. I'd recommend doing the polishing as well, if you aren't confident in your hand working abilities you'll need to have a gunsmith do it but honestly it's not that difficult, you just need to know what grits of sandpaper to use and how much to polish, there are tons of resources on youtube that will show you how to do it, and I can run you through the process if you'd like, I'll stop here since I'm starting to write an essay lol.

@ right on I get it, only reason I was asking is….when I got both my sp-01/p-01 at the time I got them both for 850 as the pair. I'll be interested to see the transformation. The SP-01 has a firing pin block and the other two don't. I don't think you will get the trigger as nice as the Shadow 2 but it will definitely be a nice trigger. I have the SP-01 tactical and I enquired with CZ custom the cost of a trigger job. It was going to be around $400 for everything, decided to leave it stock haha. Good luck!

Cool to see another appreciator of the Czech mindful engineering. I also keep the PO9 sitting in it's pretty little lock case and prefer to leave my Shadow 01 shut with only a single side. The shape of the grip reminds me of my EX's body... Now, not so much, but it's a special little CC and can't stress enough about the ease of admiring it.

my SPO1 is the same one you have there. I bought from mcarbo.com a stainless guide rod to replace the plastic one and a new solid trigger retaining pin as well as their CZ 75 spring kit which includes a new very strong firing pin retaining pin for the slide. CZ retaining pins are pretty much junk and will wear out or break. All very reasonably priced to. Gotta consider that TSO trigger though if its only $38

Careful, changing a trigger sometimes causes problems like jams, increased or decreased rate of fire, a dual bullet extraction, a misdirected extractor that could scrape you, a confused spring system for not knowing which gun it's loaded for and much more, every 9 mil. has the very same sort of problems, from the Glock 17 to the M9 and the CZ certainly isn't spared of these issues if not installed correctly and in it's case given a few screwdriver turns to tighten the weight just a little... Trust me that the last thing you want is a bullet causing another bullet to go boom while the frontal one will probably set off a flash that could burn off eyebrows.
@Heyoupally6 жыл бұрын
And honestly? A trigger pull should have the weight of what I like to see as the surprise element, keeps you getting to know the weight of the actual break and even if not, a trigger break shouldn't leave you guessing. Not like you're practicing in your backyard... that could cause some attention you know you want to avoid, I say leave the trigger as is, if anything else should bother you, dual spring systems exists for almost any 9 as well as a pin restore. Best of luck either way on your choice of arm!
