My first Christmas season in Prague I confused the idea of Ježíšek with "ježek." I imagined that a magical hedgehog brings the presents. I'm glad you have subtitles in this video so no one will make the same mistake that I made!!! Veselé Vánoce!

What about feeding the birds and keeping the carp in the tub until Christmas Eve? And why the golden pig?
@vermull192 жыл бұрын
Part of the walk is probably feeding wildlife. The live carp in the tub is a slowly disappearing tradition, as more and more people are having their carp killed at the stall or eating other fish or schnitzels and wine sausages instead. And the golden pig probably survives from pagan times, when the winter solstice and the rebirth of the sun god was celebrated, whether as the Germanic Frey, the Slavic Dažbog, or to the south of us the much better known Roman Saturn, but in any case their symbol was a pig with golden bristles. And by fasting all day long, man wanted to ensure the abundance and prosperity for the coming year, of which these gods were the bearers. In some families, instead of a pig, it was believed to see a golden calf, a rooster or a lamb.

Walks, fairy tales, biscuits, but going to church is not mentioned.

This can be part of a walk, as can visiting neighbours, feeding wildlife, collecting twigs to decorate a table or window, or releasing carp back into the pond (although anglers don't recommend this as the fish are likely to die anyway). This is purely up to the habit of the individual family.
