You can’t call it sustainable if even a minor fender bender is going to total the entire chassis… causing large sections to be completely replaced. When the production method uses more energy than traditional extrusions or composites do to make. To be fair, an this might be insider knowledge from the polymer industry, but there is a lot of research going on rn thats showing ways to create composites that are recyclable. In effect reclaiming the resin that is coating something like carbon fiber, while leaving the carbon fiber untouched. On top of that there's work being done looking into the actual chemical processes of manufacturing composites to find ways of making them more sustainable. Like rn the process of actually making carbon fiber is not completely understood and thats an area where a lot of people are turning their eyes in terms of research.

Its not about you know how to do 3d modeling it's the continuity and should work with each other. Failing to do so the rest of components will not fit each other and fail. And you do it again by scratch. Its amazing how we technologically advance today. I am interested in what the generative design to manufacture process actually is. Off the top of my head, I imagine that a program like Matlab takes in all of the required parameters from a database (for max and min size, mass, material, torsional rigidity etc) and then outputs the optimal solution as a mesh in a STEP file format, which is then passed to a high end CAD program (like CATIA v6 or Siemens NX) for a CAD technician to "trace" around and optimise it for manufacture. Then the 3D CAD file is exported to a 3D metal sintering machine. I might be completely wrong of course and there may be one single program which can do all of this! Either way, it is super interesting.
