D'Addario EJ45 vs La Bella 2001

I came here searching for this exact comparison and especially to listens to bass strings. Thank you for video and wonderful performance. EJ45 still reigns with nice balance, warmth and yet clarity - sounds beautiful on your guitar. To my ear, La Bella was not as alive and negatively impacted how I experienced the otherwise beautiful music.

Just to add that some players substitute Savarez Alliance carbon G string in place of the EJ45 G.

I have a 655mm scale guitar which one would be easier to play on? I rlly like labella strings but its high tension. I have a daddario pro arte low tension right now but the trebles sound like plastic.

La Bella has this set in low tension too and I find it very easy, although the plastic sound of nylon might be there too. What tension of the La Bella 2001 did you try? Was it the transparent one or the flamenco 2001 with the black nylon? Do you need also brighter sound on your trebles than the D'Addario? If you want to be really not nylon sounding I would also suggest the Aquila Ambra 2000 low tension trebles only. What kind of music do you prefer to play?

I like the sound of the labella in your video i have not tried it yet. I am a beginner i usually play Bach and learn some Tárrega pieces. My guitar is spruce and i want to balance the bright tones with this labella. From what you hear is it darker?

Recorded sound is not exactly same as in person, but i get the feeling the labella has a more bassy and sweet sound, can you confirm that for me ? Right now i have daddario ej27n, which even tho i like it, it is not exactly the bassy, sweet, calm sound im looking for which from the video i get the labella might have it.

Hello. Yes, I confirm that for sure. The 2001 are indeed sweet, bassy, calm. This is also the feeling I get when playing with the labella 2001 on my left and right hands.

@@XxViperMortalxX I would also say Knobloch, any set with the Q.Z. trebles. Knobloch basses are always stronger than their non fluorocarbon trebles to my ears, so you can get the same bassy effect. But they are pricier than the La Bella (but last way longer) and you also have to lower in tension to match the La Bella 2001 tension. So if you like La Bella 2001 medium go for medium-low Knobloch: for example the ADQ200 or the EDQ 33.0 both the same tension but different basses. Hope I did not complicate things for you. @@gustavoreis6853 A new cristal cantiga de Savarez tem mais corpo. O La Bella 2001 também tem mais corpo. Mas isso não significa que projetem mais. Se você precisa de um som mais gordo, escolha um desses dois. Também Luthier popular 20, mas é um pouco mais difícil de jogar. Que tipo de música você toca e que violão você tem?

@@andreaskikinas eu toco fingerstyle e um pouco de clássico. O meu violão é do Luthier Samuel Carvalho com tampo de abeto alemão e laterais e fundo de jacarandá indiano. O timbre dele tem muito brilho. Queria uma corda que me desse um som mais encorpado(gordo) e com boa projeção

D'Addario normal tension strings are the only strings I have every put on my classical guitar. No reason to switch to anything else.

I have the same with the Savarez 500ARJ strings. But i try a lot of other strings in tension and Brand. I like to compare and try.. And on my most expensive Guitar i also recognize the biggest feedback of changing the brands. But as i said ...i also come back to Savarez here. Maybe its the habit of my ears.

If you have a decent guitar, at least try: Augustine Imperial, Savarez cantiga new cristal and the Savarez Alliance cantiga...

Also which one is louder? I have a spruce guitar the low tension strings i have is not pushing the guitar properly.

With low tension you tend to loose volume too, I know. La Bella 427 for me is a good, easy medium tension string that also sounds with proper volume and are a bit easier than the EJ45 but I thing maybe harder than the EJ43? Not sure. With the Ambra 2000 low tension trebles you get plenty of clarity and volume for the tension. The easiest to find is also the La Bella 427 compared to Ambra 2000 low tension trebles. Both of these sets are easy to play legato on. Do you also miss the bass with the EJ43?

I have just put these strings on my daughters spruce guitar. I haven’t noticed drop in volume, but bases are quite soft. Thnx for excellent videos.

Κάνω την πρώτη μου έρευνα σε χορδές....κλασικά τόσα χρόνια είχα ΜΟΝΟ D'Addario στις κιθάρες (το EJ45 και το κλασικό κοκκινο πακετάκι)....η πρώτη μου έρευνα λοιπόν,έχει να κάνει με τις La Bella....εχω δοκιμάσει τα σετ criterion (c750 και c800) και τα δυο σχετικά καλά για τα χρήματά τους και τα gold sets 850 και 900 (gold basses & gold nylon) το δευτερο καλύτερο για εμενα....τωρα έχω βάλει το 820B και είναι καλυτερο απ'ότι πίστευα....εχω δρόμο ακόμα....ποιες οι εντυπώσεις σου για τις La Bella γενικά;

Καλησπέρα Άγγελε! Το Criterion C750 είναι το μόνο που έχω δοκιμάσει από αυτή τη σειρά και το θυμάμαι σαν πολύ αξιοπρεπές σε αυτήν την τιμή/κατηγορία, που είναι ουσιαστικά το οικονομικά σετ της La Bella. Ήθελα να δοκιμάσω και τα gold καντίνια αλλά μου είχαν στείλει λάθος από το Stringsbymail και δεν τα έχω παίξει δυστυχώς. Η γνώμη μου για την La Bella είναι πάρα πολύ καλή. Την θεωρώ από τις καλύτερες και σταθερότερες σε ποιότητα και τιμή εταιρίες με πολύ καλό προφίλ και πολύ φιλική εξυπηρέτηση. Πριν μερικά χρόνια που έσπασε μέσα σε 2 μέρες ένα από τα μπάσα του criterion ενός μαθητή μου και τους ρώτησα αν είχαν στο παρελθόν τέτοιες αναφορές για σπασίματα, μου έστειλαν αμέσως αντικατάσταση για τη χορδή και ένα σετ ακόμα σαν αποζημίωση. Δεν τα κάνουν όλες οι εταιρίες αυτά. Κάποιες αρνούνται εξολοκλήρου οποιοδήποτε πρόβλημα. Μου αρέσουν πολύ τα εξής σετ επίσης: Το elite 427 , που μοιάζει λίγο με τις Augustine classic αλλά μου αρέσει περισσότερο, έχει το πιο "κλασικό" παλαιότερο νάιλον και είναι λίγο πιο εύκολο στο παίξιμο από το 820 και το 820b που τα θεωρώ και αυτά πάρα πολύ καλά αλλά για μερικές κιθάρες λίγο σκληρά στο αριστερό χέρι. Αν σου αρέσει το 820b μπορεί να σου αρέσει και το σκέτο 820 με τα ελαφρώς κόκκινα καντίνια (προς το ροζέ θα έλεγα). Επίσης το 2001 για κλασική με τα διάφανα καντίνια, υπάρχει και το 2001 flamenco με μαύρα καντίνια αλλά είναι λίγο διαφορετικό, μου αρέσει πολύ,. Είναι αυτό και στο εν λόγω βίντεο εδώ. Έχει πιο απαλή αίσθηση στο αριστερό χέρι από τα elite σετ της La Bella όπως το 427, 820 και 820b. Αυτό γιατί έχει το πιο μοντέρνο νάιλον που δίνει γενικά την αίσθηση του πιο μαλακού. Δεν αρέσει αυτό σε όλους βέβαια. Το 2001 κάνει τον ήχο της κιθάρας λίγο πιο γεμάτο και μαλακό, αν βγάζει νόημα αυτό που σου λέω. Οπότε αν ψάχνεις για κάτι τέτοιο αξίζει να το δοκιμάσεις. Επειδή το 2001 βγαίνει σε πολλά tensions οπότε διάλεξε κάτι που να σου κάνει. Γενικά το medium 2001 μου φαίνεται λίγο πιο εύκολο στο παίξιμο από το medium που λένε πως έχει το 820b. Αν σου αρέσει σε σκληρότητα το 820b μπορεί να πάρεις το 2001 medium-hard για να έχει παρόμοια αίσθηση. Ακόμα και το low tension 2001 μια χαρά ακούγεται, απλά με λιγότερη ένταση από τα πιο μεγάλα tension.

​​@@andreaskikinas Ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ....στο thomann έχει τις elite 900 αν θες να τις δοκιμάσεις,για εμένα είναι καλύτερες από το 850....έχω ήδη αγοράσει το 2001 flamenco medium,το 820, το 900B κ 850B επίσης καθώς και το 830 Folksinger ball end (black nylon-gold bass)...έχω δοκιμάσει και Augustine και είναι καλές,δυστυχώς δεν θυμάμαι ποια σετ....επίσης χθες αγόρασα από την RC strings το set Flamenco Black Hard tension και Pyramid Black Wires, το Flamenco Hard Tension και το Color Strings στα χρώματα της Γερμανικής σημαίας λόγω προέλευσης της εταιρείας,κάποια στιγμή θα τα δοκιμάσω όλα αυτά....απ'ότι διάβασα σε άλλο βίντεο σε σχόλιο δεν έχεις δοκιμάσει Pyramid...γενικά έχω καταλάβει ότι σε θέμα αντοχής η D'Addario είναι οι καλύτερες....δηλαδή και 6 μήνες να είναι πάνω στην κιθάρα οι χορδές δεν υπάρχει πρόβλημα αν και αυτό είναι πρόβλημα για την κιθάρα αλλά μακροπρόθεσμα...

Tremolo needs work. Bass melody sounds like a metronome. Use a bit of rubato to bring out the feeling…

When I really interpret recuerdos de la Alhambra for the last 27 years, with the proper 4 note classical tremolo, I really do it differently than this video. Last time I played recuerdos in front of an audience was during a last summer's festival, as one of my solo pieces while in a flute-guitar classical duo. For some reason when I first recorded the ej45 as a base for all my comparisons, I did it with the flamenco tremolo, thinking it would somewhat more interesting for people the are used to hear it classical 4 note style for the last 100 years. And now I am stuck with it in these comparisons videos😅 sorry for that. Most interpretations in these videos are aimed to just give the differences to the strings and not my view of really interpreting these pieces. Nevertheless for interpretation purposes you can visit my performances section here in KZbin. Thanks again for your time!
