@avedic

I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Billy Corgan's sheer creative talent and output. It's ridiculously inspiring. BUT.....it always always bugged me how much of a prick he could be, especially to D'arcy. The passive aggressive mean stuff. Like yeah Billy, she isn't the musical savant you are, so what? She CAN play, and she brings an energy and vibe to the band that absolutely wouldn't be there without her. Also....maybe you should have given her more opportunity to show off her own talent. Her vocals on Daydream are stunningly beautiful dream pop at it's best. Anyway....sorry to rant lol. Smashing Pumpkins will always be my favorite band ever. And one aspect of being an eternally devoted fan of that band....is learning to tolerate the petty vindictive interpersonal BS between the members, most all of it stirred up by Billy. But sometimes I think it could only be that way. I mean, Billy IS a flat out creative genius. I think that's an actual objective fact. And maybe someone who's _that_ good, _that_ talented, _that_ prolific....with an overwhelming work ethic and desire to be the best....maybe such a person isn't going to have the most cuddly demeanor. It is what it is. And all 4 of the original lineup made that band what it was. I'm just grateful they stuck together for a solid decade at all. When you look back on it, they're such an odd mismatched group of human beings. But somehow, for some reason, they made perfect sense. Just one of those once in a generation bands.... As for D'arcy, at this point I just hope she has a happy life from now on. It's really sad to me how her mental health seems to not be doing that great...just declining over the past 20 years. I just hope she's ok and has good people around her. And I hope she knows how much she's meant to people's lives....

@@avedic I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. He’s a genius, yada yada yada. I’ve been a hardcore Pumpkins fan since the mid-90s. I saw him in November of 2019 in a venue with only a few hundred people. If anyone so much as spoke between songs and before he started another song, he’d have a f*cking tantrum. Someone was talking at the bar and he had a meltdown. Someone hooted as he was about to start playing, and he spent literally 5 minutes talking about how he would just sit there and wait. Because there was a tiny noise. He had a guy removed because he yelled out a request. Everyone shushed the guy and the guy kept saying the request. People started booing and Billy acted like he was an obnoxious kindergarten teacher waiting for it to be dead silent. Everyone bow down to Lord Billy. Lol. What a narcissist and pretentious prick. I have no interest in ever seeing him live again. F*ck paying him anything anymore. I have the albums.

I agree those original 4 were what people still remember when you mentioned Smashing Pumpkins. I will say though that Jeff is outstanding and fits in great. He's an outstanding musician and I think even Billy said that he had kinda been like the glue holding things together during some of the lean years. I wish D'arcy would have been able to come back with them on there most recent tour but it just wasn't ment to be. One of the things I heard was that she actually had incredible stage fright and they pushed so hard in the 90's that she just couldn't do it anymore.

@@Taydrum BULLSHIT! That never happened! Her recent brush with the law was over a horse she owns having got out and running around town!!! What the flying F are you talking about? D'arcy was always very private and introverted, and had a few very traumatic experiences in life, none her own doing, that's all. Billy is the sole reason she set stringent boundaries and demands to tour with them! He's a freaking cheapskate, a narcissist, a liar, and twists everything to suit his fancy and in his favor! He literally asked her to tour, and she had a broken arm, so she asked for the time to heal, but also for everything in writing, and to start practice based on her doctors advice, and billy wasn't satisfied with that, kept calling and then twisted her saying "Not there yet" into she's evading and avoiding me"... bla,bla lie, bla lie,lie,lie! And that when she could have been ready with enough time for a month of practice! The only one who did hard drugs was Jimmy the drummer, and it caused a lot of problems on tour too! I know, I was their first manager, and guitar and Bass tech for another 6 years. I had the freaking pleasure on many occasions to search every club, bar, and private party of cities I was completely unfamiliar with all freaking night looking for Jimmy, so we didn't miss a tour date! Thanks to cool and helpful fans that lived there I could do so, and even found him but a few times! I was Billy's freind before the band was even formed. To this day D'arcy doesn't do more than smoke Pot, and neither Billy, nor James ever did even that! As for Billies stories of his "Drug addiction": It's greatly exaggerated. He did acid no more than 5 times within a few months (We were room mates), and no other drugs, he didn't even drink but a single cocktail here and there. On my urging and understanding of what can happen he stopped doing acid: I had a lot of experience with it years prior, and stopped myself when the "Psychic crack" phenomenon and it's unpredictability was better known and published. Using Sid Barret of Pink Floyd as an example, a freind of mine suffered the same fate! Billies dad ruined his life because of drug use, and he could have been just as famous, and is a wicked guitar player, but all messed up, so billy had plenty of reason not to go that rout.

The Smashing pumpkins pretty much ended when she left in my opinion. They never had the same magic since. D'arcy got fed up with Billy's ego and left for the sake of her mental health (that says a lot when you're on drugs as it is). Shame that he burnt her out of making music entirely. Her 2018 interview was sad but filled with a lot of honesty. It's kind of clear that she was the only one that really fought back against Billy's controlling behavior while everyone else just went along with it. Calling her a "mean spirited drug addict" in itself is mean spirited. She needed help and she pretty much got abandoned and kicked to the side left to cope with it on her own...not a way to treat someone you'd call a friend.
@jacklowe3429
@jacklowe3429 2 жыл бұрын
You're entitled to your opinion, of course. And all I know about the Pumpkins is what I've read and seen. But it's easy to call Corgan "controlling," but I haven't heard anything about Darcy (or James or Jimmy) volunteering to help Billy shoulder that workload. From what I've heard, she was an utterly average bassist who was lucky to be in the band at all. And since she left---reports I read said Darcy refused drug rehab---the Pumpkins in 1999, what has she done? Nothing. No music of any kind. One hyped-up jam session with a Michigan goth band that resulted in. . .nothing. No recorded tracks, no concerts, etc. Sure, I can sympathize with her personal issues. But Darcy has the financial means to address these and, apparently, has refused to do so. I'm not saying Corgan is perfect; but who is? And say what you will about him, but he gets his work done. Let Darcy make her own album and then, she can talk shit all she wants. Perhaps she has chosen to be a private citizen. Perfectly understandable. But then she needs to keep her mouth shut. As far as I can see, Darcy was dumb-lucky to get what she had. She should be thanking Corgan, not trashing him.

I think he could have used different words with describing her however unless you have dealt with an addict esp in a work type environment you might not know how difficult it can be. Not saying I think it's right to throw someone away as I have a very close family member who struggles and we all are there when he reaches out and would never forsake them. But Sometimes tho they don't want help and if you're trying to work together on something and they're dealing with withdrawals or just high I'm sure it's not easy. No one probably knows how difficult things were. Just my take. But I certainly would never just cast someone aside as a friend but I may have to sever the work relationship if the addiction interfered.

Sorry, but the "best bass players" (your words, not mine) are people like Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, Les Claypool, John Entwistle. Your candidate is not in that group. Positive influence on the band? Yes!

I wish Billy Corgan would go to her place, break down the door with an ax (if necessary) and tell her the truth: That he loves her (deep down inside you know he does) and wants her back no matter what. Tell her that her fans love her and want her back. It shouldn't be that tough. Get her back before it's too late. No matter what it takes.

@@thejohnson9204 Thats really oversimplifying situation. D'Arcy screwed up a lot, but Corgan isn't a nice humble guy who's done everything he can to get her back in the band. They both have issues holding them back. He's got way too much pride to do what it would take for these two to make up.

@QTee Fuck off, it's no lie. Enlighten me on how it is??? She has a well documented history of drug addiction. Drug addicts are almost impossible to work with.
