Wow. Never saw a Musashi vs. Kojiro ending like that. There's no way Kojiro would have gotten up from that bonk on the head. I like the version played by Toshiro Mifune the most. I remember about a year long running Musashi series shown on tv in the 1970s that was excellent and explained Musashi's strategy of making sure the oar he used was two inches longer than Kojiro's sword. I'd buy that series on dvd in a second if I could find it.

@@EdwinHendraKusuma the one Toshiro Mifune did was a trilogy but in the 1970's there was a Musashi series of around 50 one hour episodes on PBS. I was a kid back then but with the series lasting around 50 episodes, it allowed a lot more detail about his daily life and the strategies he used to defeat the many different opponents he faced. It was frustrating because at the end of many episodes he was just about to face an opponent but you then had to wait a whole week for the next episode to see them battle.

@@Eyes-of-Horus agreed, however this scene has the best bokken replica of the one Musashi used , as far as I’ve researched and understand them to be, this is a very decent approximation of that carved weapon. Too many have him with almost an Eku styled weapon, which is not correct as I understand the information .

I saw 3 I am okay with this it was good but I saw one I really disliked, too. I saw 3 altogether but I have no clue about film titles except the one with Mifuen because Is aw the whole film I have that one at home and the rest I only saw here in clips, only the fight and no clue what they were from.

I think that's why it was so popular back then ...before Bosley came along
Watanabe Ken was an amazing Sasaki Kojirou. You must not watch many Japanese historical dramas. They take liberties, it's not 100% true to history. Much like Yoshikawa's Eiji novel which everyone in the western world assumes is true to fact. Honestly, not much was known about Sasaki Kojirou. There are tons of theories that suggest he was an older man, as well as how the duel went. Some people even suggest he wasn't real at all since there's little on record about him.
@42kellys4 жыл бұрын
Please, are you Japanese? Can I ask you something about the dialogue here? Why did his own men killed Sasaki and what did they say? I understood, or I think Kojiro did not want Musashi to come to any harm, even if he won, but it seems those people with him wanted to kill Musashi as well as they killed for some reason Sasaki. But why? what was the conversation about? Can you help me out here? I do not speak Japanese but I want to know. Thank you.

What's the name of the drama where this video was obtained?
A very different version from other films. Without understanding the Japanese dialog, it seemed like a dishonorable finish. Why was he finished off that way? And the beginning was very different. The scabbard or Saya wasn't cast off into the sand. The short sword or tanto was given away. The argument before the fight was different and important. Seemed like Musashi was very sorry or angry. There's so much more to this version. I'd like to understand what happened.

@@onebitetwokills5122 but the lesson to the story was that Kojiro shouldn’t have associated himself with the Hosokawa Clan. This tainted him. Musashi stayed independent and didn’t want to burden anybody. He just fought for himself. Many ronins challenged fencing instructors hoping they could secure a position with a certain clans.

how i think it actually went was that yes musashi killed him with single strike but his body still kept going then musashi's subordinates finished his body i guess. that's how i think it actually went down because kojiro's head was totally smashed and ribs broken but no one really knows the truth doesn't matter what story still impressive
I'm a little confused at what happened at the end did they kill their own friend because of dishonor???

According to another series based on this same novel there was a conspiracy to kill whoever won the duel and claim that both died in a mutual killing to show how futile the way of the warrior was. That is also why it was a private duel on a secluded island, so only the nobility in on the plot would be witnesses. Kojiro had found out about the conspiracy before the duel and informed Musashi as well, and that is why he ran off the way he did after the duel.

wait, what the fuck?? I've seen many different versions of this duel, but I've never seen one where Kojiro was attacked by his own men afterwards....
@drhploveboat9 жыл бұрын
***** I'm well aware of that, I was just saying that seeing Kojiro's own men attack him was a bizarre sight as I do not know the context for it in this version. most works of Musashi in media are based on Eiji Yoshikawa's novel. I've seen most of the adaptations of the story, the Toshiro Mifune version, Yorozuya Kinnosuke's version, the Hideki Takahashi version, and the Kin'ya Kitaōji version. so I know that they can take a lot of liberties with the material. hmmm, kinda interesting. at least 3 actors who played Musashi, also played Ogami Itto. go figure....
@drhploveboat9 жыл бұрын
***** no I'm not familiar with that version, I had to look it up. the images look like it was based on the Vagabond manga series, especially Takuya Kimura as Musashi. I haven't seen it, so I can't say how I feel about it, but personally I always pictured Musashi as being like this giant of man, a huge larger than life figure. of all the Japanese actors I can think of, the one that would come closest to at least looking the way I imagine him, would be Sonny Chiba in his prime, when he was really buff. whoa I totally didn't notice that was Ken Watanabe playing Kojiro, I don't know how I missed that....
