D.C. Lightning-lapse - Time-lapse shot on a Canon 60D

See below for all gear & music. A time-lapse shot during an awesome summer "storm" in Washington D.C.
Some interesting tidbits about this video. I took creative license as you may or may not be able to tell. The original time-lapse has no sound because my mics were off but more importantly there was no audible thunder or lightning strikes.
There was also no rain and thus no rain drops on the window. Music, thunder and lightning FX were all added in post production. I also froze a couple of the frames where the lightning was particularly good for extra effect. The end of the video is actual video I shot before the time-lapse.
Finally, what looks like a sunrise at the end is actually a sunset. So you see, there is lots you can do once you have good raw footage, a little imagination and a good editing suite. This was edited with FCPX.

Sunset time-lapse was shot on: AV, 30mm, f 7.1
Both time-lapses were shot at a 2 second interval.

You definitely won't be disappointed. As you can see I love the cam and still think it's the best in it's market (crop sensor DSLRs). I'm excited for the 70D but yes it will be more money. One word of caution about Magic Lantern on your new cam...it voids your warranty. I've never seen any issues with ML causing a bricked camera but just so you are aware. I would play with the camera to make sure it's good before putting ML on.

I would love to get the 70D. It's an exciting camera and I might have to buy it although I wasn't planning to upgrade my camera. I could sell my T2i and get the 70D. Between that and making videos about it, I should be able to make my money back. Stay tuned!;)

The key here is that you'll actually be shooting photos not video. Time-lapse is done by stitching hundreds or thousands of photos together. Take a picture using the settings you need to get your exposure. Make sure to use a tripod. You'll also need a time or intervelometer. You'll be doing long exposures to get night shots.

I'd love to but unfortunately I don't own that camera. The only difference from what I know is that it has some extra settings for shooting the stars (a = astronomy). I don't think you'd see any quality difference, the sensor is the same I believe.

Great video, I have now made the decision to upgrade my 600D to 60D. I was between choosing to buy the 700D (newer and touchscreen) or wait for the 70D (even never and a combination of all the great features of each Canon camera) but finally decided to stay with the 60D just because it is more affordable fully supported by Magic Lantern (havent tried it yet) and is really an upgrade from a 600D unlike the 700D. Hope i made the right choice :) (waiting for it to arrive)

Ray, I'm in the middle of nowhere Virginia camping tonight and I have my dslr with me. I'd like to do a time lapse video of the stars. what are the ideal settings on manual for my camera with a 18-200mm lens? I had a f/3.5 and 1600 ISO but that didn't do the trick. I think I left out a setting. Help!

bokeflo Correct, I used FCPX in this case. It's a simple effect inside FCPX that normally would be very cheesy and I wouldn't use most of the time but in this case it worked perfect so I had to leave it;) Thanks guys.
