This would have been the Earthmoving Platoon of D Co., 169th Engineer Battalion (Construction), 159th Engineer Group, 20th Engineer Brigade. The road building may be just north of the river. Film was probably taken mid and late 1970. Also shown is the D Company base camp at the intersection of national highway QL-20 and the La Nga River. Note the old French Bridge. Additional information in the Donald Paul Stehr and Roger Lee Knight Collections at the Veterans History Project, Library of Congress. Official 169th Engineer Battalion (C) documents and photos from May 1966 to April 1972 are located at the National Archives II in College Park, MD. Battalion headquarters was on Long Binh Post. Operational 10 June 1966. Stand Down 1 November 1971. Left Vietnam April 1972.

Wow just stumbled on to this site it brings back a lot of memories. I was in 169th Engineer Battalion Headquarters Company from early 1968 to mid-1969. We were a 5 man construction survey crew that worked on several heliport pads and buildings within Long Bihn. Early months of 1969 our crew moved out to an ARVN compound that had several Army officers as advisors. We started surveying the first 5 miles of Hwy QL20. Later when we had our location data competed Company C moved in with their heavy equipment to commence road construction. We supported them with surveying data as well as locating the next 5 miles of road. When my tour was up Company C was laying down the aggregate Base of the first 5 miles.

I think it's 1969 or 1970 because the 43rd.DT had those yellow GMC dump trucks by then. And I believe it is QL 20. It looked like the bridge by the D co. compound.
