Yep…me too. I was stationed about 6 miles north at an arty base called Duster Compound. 5th of the 2nd artillery …Dusters, Quads and Searchlights. Got there just in time to see the VC below the ammo dump at LB. Shook the ground like an earthquake!

My brother was Maj. William H Duke and was there from Nov. 71 to late 72, I believe. He passed away June 2023. This movie shows Long Binh exactly as he wrote in his diary. It made his diary come to life for me. Bless everyone that was there. Thank you all for your service.

I was with the 40th signal battalion out of LB. Spent about 6 months there when I wasn't assigned elsewhere. Pole lineman Apr 68-69. Managed to get my orders changed afterwards at the Pentagon and spent 18 months in Bangkok living at the King hotel

My Dad served a couple of tours to Long Binh. He was a 76W, POL troop, really hit me when I seen the sign for the fuel dump and the dueces from POL. Wish he could have seen that video, lost him to Agent Orange in 2012. SFC Allen Davis. I think he was the acting First Sgt there at a couple of points.

Stationed there 1966-1967.My company,538th Trans,helped build what became known as Tanker valley.We were part of 64th QM Bn. My unit hauled fuel whereever we were sent.Remember the Trucks with PETRO MAIN on the hood? Does anyone on here remember the two streets that were named after a Sgt and an LT? They were killed there scouting the area just before we moved in.I went back in 1971 538th was still there.

I was assigned to the 46th Engr Bn, D Co. in 70-71. Our Bn was located near gate 2. My company built some structures at LBJ while I was there. Was there when Gen Westmoreland came over and addressed the troops. Did some time at Bearcat, Mace, Phu Loi, Lai Khe. Seems like last week. Happy Veterans Day

I landed next door in Bien Hoa in Aug 68, took a nasty school bus to Long Bien, got back on a 3/4 truck back to Bien Hoa for the year. I was a helicopter pilot in the 145th battalion. Glad to be alive.

Scott DuPrez I was at Long Binh from March-December 1970 in the 32 Med Company next to the Evac Hospital morgue where all the bodies from the killing fields were brought in. It was a Strong reminder of what a cushy job I had at the supply depot.

I remember the bus ride from Bien Hoa and the assignment of jungle fatigues.Then at night,a first look at the tracers and sounds of the cobra's miniguns,while sitting outside of the hooch.Then later a jeep came to take me to HHC !st MIBARS Saigon at Muscara Compound on 121 Chi Lang St. outside of Ton San Nhut Air Base.Now that I look back,I miss Vietnam.

DEROS started at Long Binh Sept. ‘67. Remember this guy with a loudspeaker up in a wooden tower telling us to get rid of all our contraband by putting it into these 50 gallon drums- no questions asked. I looked into this one drum where I had to get rid of my “momentos” which were illegal to transport to the US and it was half- filled with ammo,grenades , weapons and you name it.

My grandma says his name was possibly Miller and she remembers the number 62 and letter d in regards to his military numbers. She didn't know what they represent exactly though. She also mentioned he had long blonde hair, might have been in his early 40s in 72 and he would have known her as Dong or Dam Thi Vo. That's really all she remembers. I would appreciate if you can point me in the right direction

I was assigned to the 199th Infantry Brigade whose rear area was headquartered at Long Binh. Felt bad all over again seeing alll those new guys in the video processing at the 90th. Poor bastards!

169th Eng Bn kept the same perimeter section when I was there Jan 71-Jan 72. We had a 65 ft tower with a 20mm cannon across the road and up a bit from the bunker I was usually sent to. A gate to the hill where they demolitioned the old ordinance was nearby and I had a front row seat one afternoon in a bunker right next to it when they blew 3 trailer loads of high explosives behind that hill.

I was in B company 169th Engineer Battalion March 1967 to June 1968. Spec 5 Jan Mitchell. I outfitted the Company from stateside uniforms to jungle top to bottom.

Arrived at Long Binh October 10, 1969 and spent three days there before shipping out. Passed through there again in May, '69 returning from the hospital in Japan. Was reassigned to my original unit B/504.

Passed through the the 90th Replacement in summer of 68. Had to spend 5 days there waiting for my unit assignment. They has 3 formations a day, called out names, "following 100 men going to the 1st Cav Div or following 50 men going to the 4th Infantry Div, etc. Go get on that truck! If your name was not called, the REMFs and lifers there had a shit detail for you. If there were several hundred guys who were not called, they had a detail for every one of them. KP, fill sand bags, paint the rocks, burn the shit, etc.. If they called your name and you were not at the formation, they said you would get an Article 15 punishment. The REMF's and lifers had it made there. All these men to do the work for them. They were trying to make the dump beautiful, like a Fort benning. Fat slob lifer E-6's. They wouldn't last one day in the jungle.

My grandad Ernest Allen Reeves was here in 1968. Corporal u.s. army 199th light infantry brigade 179th military intelligence detachment. He was awarded the commendation medal as well as the good conduct medal here after the raids. If anyone can tell me what his day to day would have been here or what he might have seen combat wise when the Vietnamese attacked I'd be VERY VERY grateful. I remember asking him as a kid "did you see any combat?" And he just paused for a second and looked at me with the slickest smile and he just said simply " not much" . Lmaoooo. He told my brother for a school project about 82mm mortars going off most nights. But I'll never know how he earned those medals. Only by being a badass ig lol. Most of the time I was stationed at Phu Loi and would go down for lunch at the Chinese restaurant at Long Binh. In November or December, 1969, I joined Long Binh Square and Compass Club. I'm a life member, but could only go the one time.

Our batalion HQ was at Long Binh, 169th Eng.bn. I started out at A co.then got sent to 43rd DT after someone fragged the CO there. I extended for Bco. 169th Eng. Bco was on QL 20 near the III-II corps border. I drove 10 ton with low boy trailer hauling the heavy equipment. Never knew there was a pool on post. Bet it was all clerks useing it.

When I woke up in the hospital the doctors said I would have to shit in a bag for a few weeks or months. A piece of shrapnel went up my rectum. The pain can't be described. Mt hats off to all you men and women who worked at the evac hospitals.

This is where I was after Basic at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1970, and where I took both the U.S. Army MP basic course, and the University of Maryland Police Academy. From here, I went to Khe Sanh for the beginning of Lam Son 719 in 1971 where I lived until if was over and my MP unit stood down to Phu Bai, then to Chu Lai, and then I left my MP unit, because I had decided back at Khe Sanh to be a U.S. Cavalry Huey door gunner with the 101st Airborne Division, so I was then stationed at Quang Tri where after being a Huey door gunner for awhile, and then an air mobile infantryman for awhile, I DEROS'd from at the end of 1971.

I was a little further north from Long Binh, although I came in Country through there sent over to Dian An to the 27th Roman Plow teams for about a year, got nailed pretty good, Later they transferred me in to the 557 Engineers, all toll, I Pulled 18 months in country, ETS out of the Army from Nam, April of 69. Looking back, I wish I could had visited other base camps, Seeing some of some of these Videos of other Base camps, sort of interesting.

Any prisoner in a connnex was someone who committed murder. Like fragging an officer for instance. The only source of ventilation they had was a slit cut out of the side of the connex

Thank you all you guys served in Vietnam fought the Commies; 58K American died, over 5 million Vietnamese dying until today and the only war we lost due to il-politicain in Capital Hill. I am the Vietnamese American grew up here in Texas still anti-Commies and hope the will falls soon.

Steve,glad you made it to our country and safe.But I question your blaming our politicians for losing the war. There are many places to place blame,but the biggest should go to the corrupt South Vietnamese govt. that could not get their own people to fight the war. The US had no business trying to settle the difference between Ho Chi Min communist and a corrupt puppet south vietnamese govt. The blame should go there in all due respect.

I was in the 40th signal battalion Long Binh Apr 68-69. Pole lineman, installer and cable splicer. I was afraid of climbing too. Fortunately they were all concrete on base as I remember

My grandad ernest a Reeves was here during the same time. 199th light infantry brigade 179th military intelligence detachment. Do you know if he would have sent rounds there way that day? He never talked much about it. But he was awarded two medals.

I also worked odd hours because I had to take the OD out to inspect the guard bunkers on the perimeter everyy night at 12-1 am,, so I didn't have to go in to work until around 1....unless I had to drive LTC Carlson to Saigon or Bien Hoa. .
