In the first session a little boy they rescued watched them closely while they slit an unconscious orc’s throat. Now there’s one more boy who’ll grow up seeing ruthlessness as a valid path to results. Maybe I’ll let them meet him again.

The more you think about this, the less morally justifiable it becomes. This is not exclusive to D&D. Only higher level support nerds can do it. Once they use their action to confirm the veracity of another nerd's sayings, the said nerd gain the "overly confident" status. A nerd touched by "overly confident" cannot be frighten, scared, or intimidated for 24 hours. It will also give a bonus of 50% to all XPs the nerd recover during those 24 hours. To balance this, the nerd also loose 4 points in Charisma, as he is temporarly really annoying.

Couple things about this spell. 1) The human skeleton weights only about 15 kg. You could carry a couple of those with you wherever you go. If you "tetris" it properly, you could even fit them in a chest so that the townspeople don't freak out, 2) If you lock that chest, you could pre-animate your skeletons that you carry with you. It gives you a contingency plan if you fail to be present at the right time of the day to use a spell slot to keep control of your 4 skeletons, as they will still be contained. 3) No one said you _had_ to use a spell slot to keep control of 4 skeletons. Once your box is full, you very well could just start working on another box of skeletons and leave the now neutral-evil-uncontrollable skeletons in the box. Just because you don't control them doesn't mean they can't be an asset in a fight or act of heinous terrorism. That way, no one will think of giving you reasons to commit heinous acts of terrorism. 4) It can take longer than you would think to bump into 12 full sets of human bones. Get started early. Sure, your party might think you're a little weird for using invisible servant to scratch and quicklime the flesh off every bandit that pisses off your barbarian, but as soon as you hit level 5, you'll be ready. 5) No other spell in the game gives you 4 actions per turn-per-spell-slot-for-24-hours without requiring concentration. It literally is broken. It's like they didn't care to balance the spell at all. It just breaks the action economy. 6) A wand of magic missile does not require a spellcaster level to use. If you can make them or can buy as many of them as you want, every skeleton can deal 3d4+3 per turn. At level 5, that's 36d4+36 (average 126) per turn for a bonus action that doesn't take your concentration. It always hits. There's no saves. 7) Skeletons can wear robes, gloves and masks, even armor if needed. If you use minor illusion, you can make your voice sound like it's coming out of one of them. That way, your enemy takes 126 damage per round not-counting your own actions, while guessing which mage to attack. 8) Skeletons don't need to eat, sleep, drink, or even breathe. They don't require light to perform their task, and don't get sunburned either. They have an int. of 6 and can perform some basic tasks if ordered to. They don't require a wage and don't unionize. Whilst it takes a bonus action to give an instruction, they can all follow a different one. If you set them on a simple task like working looms, mining, or laboring the ground, you can make products that are so abundant and so far below market averages that you can crash any local economy in a matter of months. Have fun.

If you're referring to Undying Servitude, it's just 1/long rest, isn't it? You can't use spell slots to cast it, so you're basically bound to 1 minion per long rest.

Sarcasm is my favorite emotion Depends on the Alignment. I’ve got a neutral Tiefling Death Cleric who is fine raising evil creatures and entities as bodyguards as he controls them. Alternatively, I had a lawful evil undead black Dragonborn Oathbreaker who lost favor with his goddess and did everything he could to try and win back her support and actually die. It’s been five years and I’m still waiting for that conclusion.

I assume that when my possy of Zombies reached a certain size and just started surrounding anything the dm threw at us he deemed them to be a problem. Honestly, this video actually made the point that if Warlocks did have Animate Dead, they could be horribly overpowered. Warlocks regain their spell slots after every short rest they take. Given, when they get 3rd level spells at level 5, they only have two spell slots and they cap at four spell slots at level 17. But this means a Warlock can refresh their spells every hour. Even if we say the Warlock has to sleep 8 hours and say they only take three short rests in the sixteen hours they are awake, that would mean as much as eight 3rd level spell (two for waking up after a long rest and six more for the three short rests) casts a day at 5th level

But the math for that shenanigans gets messy fast

How to necromancy : Build a graveyard, and become it's proprietor, to get money for making the funreals. Then, buy armors, and raise undead, then use the said armors to disguise your undead, and order them to stay still, and pretend to be armor stands, unless you get attacked, so that they protect you. Just make sure to use preservants, and embalm those bodies, so that they don't rot. Obviously mummification is the best way to do it. You will have mummified zombies in armor that will protect you in case of emergency, that will do what you ask them to do, and while being like that the will pretend to be armor stand when not given any other task. Then simply gain power, until you have big mansion, in which you have many of those skeletons, disguised as armor stands. Then gather artifacts, that will allow you to controll more undead, and at this point you might as well create some inteligent undead, that will serve you like vampires, lesser liches, spirits, etc. that will give you additional servants. Still you want to lay low - you don't need to alert anyone, you are just a enterpeneur, that has many servants, and owns many graveyards. At this point you might also hire some other necromancers, that disguise themselves as grave owners, and create a corporation. Of course you don't want to kill innocent people - that's easy way to get into trouble, and you don't want that. What if your Gravediggers guild gets into trouble with the law? You don't want some paladins and priest storming your headquaters. Everything needs to be in accordance with the local law. You're doing good so far? Well time to hire bards, that will play music on your funreals, give money to charity, and get good PR. Also branch off - make some other buisnesses. The dead can tend to fields, the dead can mine and they don't get tired! Free manual labour! Make the country rich - bribe any snooping goverment officials, and become the backbone of the country economy. At this point no one will even WANT to fight you, because if they do, the economy will collapse, everyone will starve, and everything is going to go to shit. Now, if you are not immortal yet, time to get money and seek for immortality. At the same time you need to put up a front. Go to parties! Get a wife! Throw some parties of your own! Make sure everyone likes you! Help the common folk! Make festivals from the money you earned. Now, at this point you should be the grey eminence. Try to get in with the Royals, shower them with money, become a minister! Make the country flourish, advise the king, and make the country conquer others. Just remember : Don't use undead armies to fight in wars. You don't want people to think that your country dabbles in necromancy... Use the undead to work the field, and do all kind of manual labour, in disguises so no one realizes that they are even undead. Also, make sure peasants go bankrupt, buy out their land, and make them flood the cities. Sell cheap food to everyone, be their supplier. At this point you should make sure, that only the undead work the fields, and all farms are owned by you, or at least worked by your "workers". So what next? Well since there are a lot of poor people in the cities, they are easily manipulated. Use them to overthrow the monarchy, while maintaining your position, and become elected as the "prime Minister" of the country. Make reforms, that give people free bread, but require that every citizen has to serve in the army, unless they are a mage. So the next part of the plan is simple. Make necromancy legal. Make all mages to focus on necromancy and become the rulling class, while all people that have no talent in magic, should become the warrior class. The undead will be the workers, the citizens will be the cannon fodder, that if dies, becomes the way to improve the economy, and everyone that has any shred of magic talent, becomes the magicians that tend to the undead workers, and are the country beaurocratic class. So, why don't you want to use the undead for combat? Well simple, to not arouse suspicion still. If you see hordes of undead invading you, you will call the clerics and paladins. But if the living are the ones invading you, then it's just another war. You just created a country that became the ultimate war machine, full of warriors, mages and no man is a worker, because all menial jobs are done by the zombies or skeletons. Congrats.

I wonder where this falls in the timeline? Like, the Skank that fought Trevor was at least high enough level to cast Finger of Death, because he had to be to cast clone, and there were way too many zombies in that room to be sustined by Animate Dead (I counted about ~60) Animate dead = 12-13 (technically more at higher level castings, but why would you do that) and let's be super generous and say, 2 Undead Wights via Create undead (which grant him an extra 12 zombies each) and a third permanently controled Wight via Command Undead for a total of 48 zombies. Still too many, so Finger of Death must be involved. If this episode happens before Trevor, then we are time traveling, how do we know where we are in the ASEU? If this happens after Trevor, why is such a powerful necromancer wasting time/spellslots on Animated Dead? Is it just to spend time with his brother, or is these two running an instructional class canon?

@@@ASquared544 @Alexander Blixt but you can take control of a undead that creates more undead under it's control, like a mummy lord(probably the best option, cr 15 intelligence 11(more than 8 so it gets advantage on the save, but it has magic resistance so arguably that doesn't even matter, but crucially less than 12 so it doesn't get to make the save again every hour), the mummy lord itself can cast animate dead, and it has 3/3/2/1(for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th level slots respectivelly) meaning it can control up to 56 undead(!), and finally he has a lot of strong abilities that mean he doesn't really need to use it's spells to be effective(althought you probably want it to stay away from the fight so as to not risk losing it and suddenly having to deal with the now free skeletons/zombies))

Nightveil Specter CR10 (6 int, 105hp) If you allow it to be incapacitated for 1 month, it can create a CR8 Gloamwing mount for itself to use. Gloamwing CR8 (2 Int, 136 hp) Good flying mount, but only while the Nightveil Specter still lives. Sword Wraith Commander CR8 (11 int, 127hp) 1/day Call of Honor, if its been damaged in the current battle, can summon 1d4+1 sword wraiths to its side. These are some of the fun ones.

It’s so bad though. You get one skeleton of zombie RAW. If you need a minion from an invocation, take Minions of Chaos. I think he's specifically referring to Clerics as Necromancers, same with Paladins, both of which can Animate Dead, but are worse at it than Necromancers. Well, Oathbreaker Paladins can anyways, and are actually rather good necromancers surprisingly, though not as good as Necromancy Wizards. Death Clerics are pretty decent, but are more about blasting with necrotic damage than animated the dead. Of course, with being an Oathbreaker or a Death Cleric, you run into the issue of them being DMG subclasses. You basically need an evil party or a party that doesn't mind a token evil teammate. In the latter, you also run into the issue of stuff like undead usually being enemies of the party, and generally being more built with opposing PCs rather than aiding them.

My DM let me use an Unearthed Arcana that lets Warlock cast Animate Dead. I am now convinced this is one of my favorite DND playstyles. I named all my corpses after Fire Emblem characters and you would be surprised how effective an undead army is when you manage it properly. Undead Fortitude is a fucking beast against minion creatures that can't deal obscene damage all at once (especially if you convince a partymate to Bless them), meaning you and the party can focus on the big guy alongside your Skeleton archers. Not to mention the utility of having undead to guard dungeons so you can go long rest, checking for traps so that you and your party don't get fucked, being your backup dancers because you took the Performer background and want to impose sheer terror on the Mind Flayers, and the absolute power move of just telling the undead to loot the room for you after the battle so you and the party can pay attention to the plot hook and still get paid. I could theoretically have a fucking load more but I limit myself to like 10 and keep most of them offscreen in reserve because keeping track of that many units at once is an absolute nightmare. I can say this with experience both as a Player and a DM.

Back in the day (3.5) the spell wasn't limited to humanoid OR medium, instead being limited entirely by HD. This made for some absolutely hilarious abuse, like the armor-plated skeletal mammoth we ran around with. There's not much to resurrect when all that's left is scattered dust.

@@voltsiano116 It doesn't matter. Resurrection can restore a creature's body entirely even if all that remains from it is dust. True Ressurection can create a creature's body entirely if absolutely nothing of it was left. You need only speak the creature's name and they will be resurrected. You need only say "Blade in the dark, Orcstabber, Sqwqlgoth, Vengeance, Strahd Slayer and Twice King Trevor".

My favorite mailing/telecommunications system in a fantasy world: a bunch of underground tunnels full of skeletons ready to peasant railgun your packages/messages anywhere in like, an hour, logistically since they'd have to be brought into and out of mail lines and couried the rest of the distance but distinctly alive people.
