This is very misleading in terms of Monks. You can NOT use martial arts in wild shape. Wild shapes use natural weapons, which are not unarmed strikes. You can not flurry of blows as a wild shape or use anything that says "unarmed" because you are armed.. with natural weapons. Otherwise a 2 level dip into druid of the moon would give you 2d6 for 4 attacks as a dire wolf at level 7, which is more damage output than a level 20 monk with 1d10 for 4 attacks (this should have been your first clue that this is not allowed). That being said monks do get a ton of class features that will go into wild shape, and their unarmored defense uses THEIR wisdom, which can be 20. You basically end up with WAY more ac with wildshape and monk unarmored.

Nice timing! I was already rolling up a druid for my next game! You pretty much covered what I had considered, but I didn't see you mention the race I picked: Kalashtar from Eberron. They also have telepathic communication like the Ghostwise Halfling, and they have some other fun stuff that meshes well. My build will end up as Druid (Moon) 15, Barbarian (Totem[Bear]) 3, Paladin 2. When Raging, they will have resistance to ALL damage, since Kalashtar provides the missing psychic resistance. But otherwise, it's as you mentioned - Unarmored Defense, Rage, and Divine Smite are all super great and IMO worth the 5 levels of dip! My only real concern is burning through spell slots like crazy, but I'll see how it goes. Great stuff as usual, guys!

For the Fighter, I read somewhere that the wildshape melee weapons do count for anything that has a “Weapon attack” or “melee weapon attack” requirement. This should give you benefits for things like 1st part of Great Weapon Master or all of Savage attacker. Just look at the Dire Wolf’s bite. It’s classified as a Melee Weapon Attack. You should easily get those fighter bonuses.
@anonymous362474 жыл бұрын
I still find those rules really confusing but I think a wolf's bite counts as a melee weapon attack however the wolf does not have a melee weapon, if that makes sense. In other words an ability that affects a weapon attack would work but an effect that targets a melee weapon would not ... unless you used it the very moment the wolf is biting. Or maybe if I'm wrong it wouldn't work at all. I'm not sure. Just go back and read whatever Jeremy wrote

The downside to this is that apes have garbage HP and you'll turn back after 1-3 hits. Giant Apes are awesome, but their CR is too high for wildshape and also they're 15x15. I think you can still make unarmed attacks using your UA damage dice instead of the animal's attack. So at 5th level you could: - Multi attack; Use animal's best attack twice with extra attack; Use Animal's best attack then unarmed attack then either Marital arts or flurry for more UA attacks. Unarmed attack twice then once or twice more with martial arts or flurry.
@HiroZeroVirus5 жыл бұрын
Multi attack for a creatures stat block doesnt allow you to make an attack action, multi attack IS the action, so you do not get the monks bonus unarmed OR flurry of blows, also the multi attack is very specific as to what you are attacking with, so you can not sub it out with an UA. yes, you can technically make an UA in wildshape form, but it confers no additional benefit from the natural weapons. so in a way it is worse, as in human form, at least you can make a monk weapon attack and then UA or flurry, but in wildshape, you can only UA and then UA or Flurry. so functionally yes, it is still USABLE, but not to the capacity described.

First, Cold Breath isn’t a magic item. Second, its description mentions no spell. Third, it’s not a spell attack. Fourth, the word “magical” appears nowhere in its description. Our conclusion: Cold Breath is not considered a magical game effect, even though we know that dragons are amazing, supernatural beings." By this ruling it would appear that I am correct. For better crossover with Rogue, just take a single level dip into Monk as well. Although not expressly stated as being finesse, the Martial Arts ability lets you attack with Dex instead of Str, and is worded nearly identically to the description of a finesse weapon. And since your(for example) bear claws are the animal equivalent of being unarmed, it *should* work, unless your particular DM is a major stickler for rules being 100% as written.

There are some way to talk: like a Giant Elk has a language, so technically, it could cast a spell like faery fire that has only a verbal component, and apes could cast spells with somatic components, and I will argue that to my grave. Also, great tactic to maintain concentration. For example, cast heat metal on an enemy, then wild shape into a badger and burrow under the ground so nothing can really hit you, or a mobile stealthy beast. for example, I played a druid that used a panther shape to maintain concentration on spells: Cast moonbean, or heat metal or flame sphere or stuff like that (call lightning was fun) and then use my wood elf feat where you could hide in light natural stuff like leaves, smoke, etc, even rain, and stay hiden whil moving the beam or sphere around, or causing the heat metal do do damage. Heat metal on armored dudes is HUGE. I recenlty played a ranger on a one-shot, and ONE level of ranger would be great for the feats you get, and the zephyr strike spell alone! PLUST the froficiencies you get on saves like CON, and I believe Strength and Dex is somethign druids need! It also fits a bit with the nature type. Also, both spells rely on wisdom, so you get some cool spells like hail of thorns and hunter's mark plus you are proficient wiht a long bow which oculd be handy and thmatic for a wood elf.

Moon Druid Horizon Walker, a teleporting water elemental. Any attack from any range allows you to teleport 10ft. Grapples count as attacks, so you can use whelm and drown people while teleporting away from their allies through attacking or disengaging. Its two slam multi attacks count as weapon attacks so you can turn one of the attacks into force damage with planar warrior and be able to attack a third time, allowing 30 of teleportation. Since teleportation can occur before an attack you can probably teleport between two and use whelm to draw them in during the third attack (as long as it's used on a third creature), since it doesn't specify any kind of attack and whether or not whelm specifically has to use your attack action. The teleport is also any direction as long as you see it so you could probably teleport over water and use your swim speed of 90ft to go underwater with them. If they don't have a swim speed and break out you can keep whelming them and dragging them further down pretty much guaranteeing that at least two enemies are out of the fight/drowned.

Looking to playing a Druid/Monk in a game. Starting at Level 4 so Druid 3/Monk 1 as a Moon Druid. I'll probably stick with just one level of Monk, mainly for Unarmored Bonus and Bonus Action unarmed strike.

Moon Druid 18/Paladin 2. - Your natural weapons count as magic. - Your spell slots can be used to cast Druid or 1st level Paladin spells, heal your beast form, or just smite. - You can probably Lay on Paws for a little extra healing, or something.

A Shepard Druid/Beast Master Ranger could have a bunch of summoned animals, an animal companion, be an animal themselves, and if they're a forest gnome they can also talk to small animals, possibly convincing a bunch of them to join in as well... Would a wild shaped forest gnome be able to talk to his cute animal army since he's speaking their languages? Like an animal general? I suppose they'd have to be the same animal type. With Magic Initiate, they could also have an animal familiar as well. 🤔

Yall just gave me a great idea. A circle of the moon/beast master ranger multi class, with the bestial spirit spell. If you choose land creature for your spirit, and a wolf for your animal companion and your wild shape, then they all get pack tactics.

do natural weapons count as being unarmed? Ive heard both yes and no from different people
@potato4dawin15 жыл бұрын
sadly not. Even a gorilla's "Fist" attack technically counts as a "Fist weapon attack" which is a melee weapon attack that is not a weapon attack and not an unarmed strike

There is a way to Sneak Attack during Wild Shape!!! The Inquisitive subclass of Rogue has the "Insightful Fighting" feature: "If you succeed, you can use your Sneak Attack against that target even if you don't have advantage on the attack roll, but not if you have disadvantage on it." does not specify it requires a finesse or ranged weapon to give Sneak Attack, unlike Swashbuckler's "Rakish Audacity" that says "All the other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you." In addition, Insightful Fighting is based on an Insight check. If you are a druid, you have high wisdom. Rogue can give you expertise in insight. Some wild shapes have amazing attacks. I think it's a great combination!
@NobodyDungeons5 жыл бұрын
one thing to consider is going 5 levels of rogue because at 5th level rogues get the uncanny dodge ability which means if an enemy you can see attacks you and hits you can use your reaction to halve the damage so in a boss fight with only one enemy you can effectively halve all the damage dealt to you unless the enemy has multiple attacks
@Kurse_of_Kall4 жыл бұрын
or just go barbarian level 3 and get totem of the bear. Boom. Half damage from anything except psychic damage.

Nice idea, though we really need to see the return of the Natural Spell feat from earlier editions (cast spells in wildshape, using animal noises for verbal and natural movements for somatic). I would really like to see a good build for a Druid Bladesinger (wizard), though of course the semi-optional restriction on being an Elf might chafe a little, though it is very thematic.

druid 2/circle of the moon, rogue 3/assassin, and ranger 3/gloomstalker. You can now walk around in darkness as a tiger/dire wolf completely invisible to any creature that uses darkvision which is 95% of all monsters getting free advantage AND crits on anything suprised. If you went to lvl 20 with this you could do druid 10 or 12/circle of moon, rogue 5 or 7/assassin, and ranger 3 or 5/gloomstalker depending on if you want to wild shape into an elephant, get evasion, or get extra attack. If you go extra attack you could make 2 attacks with a giant scorpions sting attack if you assassinate something for atleast 2d10+4 piercing and 8d10 poison

I really want to do a monk moon druid. Get 6 levels of druid to get saber tooth tiger. Then lots of monk to get extra attacks and really beef up the tiger. As a bonus i would try and get an amulet of health, insigne of claws and bracers if defence. Amulet of health should give the saber tooth an extra 24 hp. I would maybe add barbarian levels late game if i get there. I would also cast darkvision at the start of the day as it should stick when i wildshape as it would be a spell not a racial feature. I'd have like 19 AC, 3-4 attacks at 2d6+5 and 80hp each wildshape. Not OP but holds its own. Edit: and my damage is decent in human form thanks to shilleleigh

@benry007 could you tell me how many levels of each also maybe add two levels of fighter for action surge
@benry0074 жыл бұрын
@@zEr-ne5ri I would go first 2 levels in druid, then one level monk. 4 more levels in druid to get to druid 6. From there i would go monk the rest of the way. You will need to check this all over with your DM. The combination is in a grey area and you will need your DM to decide how the features work together. As for fighter levels you will want to add these after you have at least druid 6/ monk 5. See if you can get a UA fighting style as the base ones dont really help you as you dont wear armor or wield regular weapons.

Damn! No rogue sneak attack while wildshaped? That is HARSH! In Pathfinder or earlier editions of D&D, a rogue/druid would be a awesome combo. (2+ wolves attack you, flank you with 'pack tactics', and suddenly one wolf is biting for a HECK of a lot more damage!)

Yes, as long as your wildshape form has a mouth. "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so. However, you can't use any of your Special Senses, such as Darkvision, unless your new form also has that sense."

The title of the video should be called "multiclassing a circle of the moon druid" not as it is labeled, I assumed it would be about ultilities of certain wild shape forms.

Hello gentlemen! So I’m commenting with a question about the Druid. It’s the first time playing seriously. I’m running a Druid, and it’s only the second campaign I’ve ever played. I’m playing a Tortle Druid with random stat rolls making him strong wise and hearty, and luckily his other stats all bottom out at 15. I chose to run the Path of the Shepard because I really wanted to take advantage of the spirit totem buffs at early-ish levels, and explain how knows the Elvish language (I had to choose another language apparently) saying he was trained by a wandering Elf who died on his home island. I’m running with a powerhouse Dwarf Fighter, Human Paladin, and Drow Wizard with a Gnome Rogue coming in and out of the campaign because he’s always busy for daily life reasons. During the campaign, after some ten weeks in and getting to fourth level, the party minus the rogue have an in story situation arise where multiple gods whisk our characters apart shortly, and depending on their interactions with said deities/devils the characters were blessed/cursed with a second class. My Druid, because he attacked the deity in his instance because he was reminded of the ship that took him away from his home island leaving him lost in another continent, was blessed by the deity to recall his hunter background (or history from his bio I wrote) from his past to gain Ranger abilities as a show of good faith. Because I’m running a specific Druid archetype, what kind of Ranger subclass would be cool/advantageous to compliment his skill set and stats since he’s basically been used as a direct midfighter in combat and jack of all trades out of it?

I know it's not what you guys normally do, but I'd like to hear more about your experience of playing as a War Wizard. I've always been kind of interested in the class, but I've read a lot of negatives, so I'd like to hear the opinions of someone who actually played it for a while, thanks
