D&D (5e): Mini Combat Tutorial (Wizard Level 1)

I usually DM, but when I play, I play a high elf wizard, every time....maybe if I ever get to level 20 I'll try something else but for now I just can't get enough of being a wizard. I think its partly because I keep getting better at it and new ideas. There's just so much you can do with a wizard that it never gets boring or old.

Okay, so shocking grasp could be better than disengage because they won't get an opportunity attack as a reaction. Didn't even think of that. Now shocking grasp suddenly sounds like a better spell. I've never taken that spell before but this has me considering it.

and your familiar can deliver the shocking grasp because it's a touch attack, which makes it a ranged spell then

When the wizard moved around the orc, he would have gotten an attack of opportunity.

Has to move out of his reach. As long as the wizard stays within 5 feet of the orc the orc doesn't get an attack of opportunity. Wizard got lucky the orc was having a bad day. Also, if the wizards shocking grasp hit the orc he could have left his reach without getting attacked. The orc couldn't use his attack of opportunity because shocking grasp takes away his ability to to take reactions until the start of his next turn.
