So how many of the following microtransactions/extra purchases/quiet scams do we think they will make essential to actually using all of the Project Sigil features: 1. Character sheet rolls will demand that your dm have all the books on DnD Beyond and will not be homebrew friendly in order to preserve that requirement. 2. DM’s will have to pay extra or buy a membership to import basically any external assets. 3. The dungeon builder will have only 1/10th of the assets they just showed for free and the rest will be sold in microtrasaction bundles or individually purchasable. 4. An extra payment or membership will be required to build maps larger than a couple rooms. 5. There won’t be a way to import your own 3D assets and they will sell individual mini’s or mini packs if you want to have 3D options, the fact that they keep mentioning the gold dragon digital mini makes this one seep especially likely. 6. DM’s will have to pay to store more than one campaign on DnD beyond even if they don’t need to have it kept on the cloud because Project Sigil will auto sync with DnD Beyond. 7. In a 3rd or fourth up day they will add a terms and conditions clause that makes any content made on sigil or saved to DnD beyond through Sigil their licensable property. 8. In a 3rd or 4th update all characters sheets built with features from books that the players or the dm doesn’t own on DnD beyond will be locked or their macros will get broken until they go purchase the relevant books on DnD beyond. 9. When nobody subscribes for the AI DM features they are planning they will start moving other things from single VTT purchase access behind that subscription paywall. 10. Any I couldn’t imagine them doing during the duration of this video. My bet is at least 5.

I've still never quite understood how this all works. I mean, fantasy roleplay, like any roleplay, relies on that wonderful thing we all have innately. Imagination. I remember all the decades back to when I was introduced to the worlds of TSR (back then), where I could start using multisided dice and character sheets and paper to drag others into my little fantasy world. When I found out about the Forgotten Realms, I think I cherry picked some broad concepts and brought them in too. None of the 'rules' were in concrete - the DM neutrally balances the Lore with the Gameplay (or players vote with feet and bggrorf so to speak. Now, I get that companies want lots of money for games so keep introducing new stuff. There is nothing forcing anyone to buy it (other than those in squirrel-mode needing 'Everything'). Fantasy is Your world. Online is useful, if it suits your gamestyle. Players wanting to pay monthly until they get tired of that (and lose all their play to date) is fine. Their choice. I'll stick to my style. Shared data via Online storage. Physical stuff to keep it real. Basic rules that can be adjusted depending on play and circumstance. It's Fantasy. It's imagination. Unless you sell your actual brain, what's in it is always available to you and your players. Vote with your feet. Pay monthly or not. Go to old second hand shops and get manuals. Just have fun. Easy.

It's "direct to consumer" marketing, A concept that is so inside baseball that it was a silly name even at the time, and now is such common practice today that it's made all the sillier when companies adopting the practice for the first time continue to use that name.

Have they covered off the system requirements and hosting side? People talking about how much the digital rulebooks cost had better hope their PC is up to running Sigil, and that all their pals at the table are tooled up too. My biggest concern over this from the hobby point of view (and that's TTRPG hobby not just the mighty D&D) is that if kids are meeting up at someones house and dragging their gaming laptops with them, how soon will it be before they all start to realise, "I could do exactly this from my own bedroom?" and D&D slowly migrates to VTT as the standard model. Using the VTT you have been lured into investing all your new D&D purchases into. I believe this is Hasbro's ultimate goal. And the danger is that it could create the biggest generational cut off point in the hobby's history, where the expectation is to play remotely, rather than VTTs being a convenience for those who live too far apart to meet up. And people playing round a table will ultimately come to be viewed like 2 people playing Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 together on a split screen in the same room... a peculiarity from a bygone age.

It's kinda a letdown when you get even a german translation and not a PT-BR one. I'm used to play in english since the 5E release, but having official translated content would really help our community to grow and engage with this new edition.

The 3D Map Builder looks awesome! Reminds me a lot of Dungeon Alchemist, where you simply pick what type of room you want, and click and drag, and Presto!, the AI creates the room for you. I love that, not the least of which it will make map making a lot faster than the old way of making maps. That being said, I am still wondering if Wizards of the Coast will go back and make 3D maps for all of the 5e Adventures that have been previously released, or if we want to run any of those in Sigil, will we have to make the 3D maps ourselves?

I would really like to see Ed Greenwood be involved in the creation of the Forgotten Realms books. As many others have stated, his content has continued to expand on his world and he is actively producing more lore on his own KZbin channel. Missing out on the opportunity to work with the creator of your most successful setting to curate a guide to the realms would be a complete letdown.

Nowadays web browsers, such as Chrome and Edge, can both translate entire webpages. If you view the content of a sourcebook on a browser, you should be able to have it instantly translated in real time. I'm certain it wouldn't be perfect, but it should be more than enough to utilize the material.

Why play a ranger when you can play an ancients paladin? Divine favor is concentration free, stacks with hunters mark and you get a permanent large summon that doesn’t use your bonus action to command. Unless you want to use a bow.

1. This is epic! 2. Lobe that they're working with 3rd party creators like Dungeon Dudes, Kobold Press, Ghostfire Gaming, and Griffin's Saddlebag. If they were to be smart and utilize those creators then it would elevate DnD even further; ex. Making Seeker's Guide to Twisted Taverns and Enchanted Emporiums offical DnD 2024 5e books. 3. While I'm excited for that Forgotten Realms book, it better have 4 subclasses per each class like the new PHB. Do that and it will fly off the shelves. 4. One thing they should definitely do latter on is allow you to 3D print your minis from the online 3D game. Like, team up with Heroforge.

They said the Multiverse is the main setting for 2024 D&D, Greyhawk is the example setting for the DMG, because Chris Perkins slipped into it, because it would never get published otherwise. Not being the default setting anymore is the best news for FR, it means it's no longer under the default setting curse, hence why it's getting proper books now.

Adding console support for the VTT sounds.... not great. Maybe they make it work a little bit, but first and foremost, I don't see that as making any money. Absolute best case scenario, it's a way for people without a smart phone or PC to be able to move tokens and roll, but as a DM, I'd have a lot of qualms about allowing it at my table, as I see no way that it doesn't slow things down. And with that best case scenario comes hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars of dev time and licensing costs that will never be recouped on the platform its being sold on. Mobile support makes a little more sense due to the lower licensing and ubiquity, but still seems dicey investment wise. Like I said in the chat, I don't mind Wizards wanting to make money, but they're walking a tightrope between offering value to consumers and ripping them off with the VTT. Like, what I want to know for the whole sigil thing is what the goal is in terms of future monetization. Are you talking $5 per virtual model? Because that'd feel like highway robbery. What about $15 for a pack of like 5-10, with the option for chroma variants? That'd be on the more reasonable side, to me at least. I'd also want to know what the license stuff looks like. If I drop $2k on different models and content for sigil over the course of 5 years, is it account based where a ban loses access to what I paid for? what's the life expectancy of the VTT? Can content from Sigil be used elsewhere? Are the servers local or remote? There's a lot of questions that remain to be answered, and the C suite at Hasbro have done nothing but show incompetence when it comes to TTRPG's.
