I like session 0's for setting boundaries of other players, on top of game expectations & settings to integrate your character a lot easier. Also does wonders to test run any computer softwares or shenanigans, iron out any wrinkles, mics, sound, visuals, chat, etc.

I think a session zero is a necessary thing to do if you want to tie your party closer together or you want to have players and or DM who are new to each other to get a feel of those individuals so I do think it's very helpful but it's only necessary under specific circumstances because it's a useful tool to prevent a D&D horror story from happening at the table it doesn't always work but it's useful to help prevent or minigate the backlash

I think it dose a good job for creating parties. I think there is a significant betterment of creating characters as a group as opposed to making them before you even know the campaign.
