"Still won, though, because one of the PC’s stole the villain’s shoe earlier in the game... it’s complicated." So... even though the 'heroes' did not at all deal with the villain, they still won, all because one of them stole the villain's shoe. Complicated does not even _begin_ to encapsulate a shred of that statement. Defeating a villain, that was left to do their bidding unhindered for 3 real months, all because someone stole their shoe some time in the game. How in the fuck!? D&D is goddamned magnificent!
@Ajehy4 жыл бұрын
Jocose Sonata - The shoe was part of a magical outfit that would allow the wearer to ascend to godhood. The villain went around gathering the other pieces, but without the one shoe, her power was incomplete. With all but one piece, she was super-end-boss powerful, but not unbeatable. They won, never realizing until later that the shoe was actually even important... one of the PC’s just stole it because she was annoyed at the owner (who wasn’t even the villain).

2 of the players in my games are just exact opposites. The Rogue constantly rolls shit all the time, thankfully he got that Rogue luck thing so he never gets below a 10 now so he can actually do stuff out of combat now. The Paladin doesn't roll particularly well, but enemies just roll absolute shit to hit him. Last fight he solo'd a boss for about 6 turns while the others killed the mobs. The boss just couldn't roll above a 10 and whiffed for ages. Then the other PC's get involved and he just smashes the Rogue down to half health in 1 turn

Judging from the fact that the door is made of stone, with the hinges on your side, you can guess this is the back side of a hidden passage." Player: "I examine the door for traps. Got a 12 on investigation." Me: "The rotten-egg smell is distracting, but you take a look anyway. The door is solid flint, set in a steel frame. That's all you notice." Player: "I open the door!" Ever other player: *Heavy sigh of exasperation at the obvious trap being triggered* Me: "As you open the door, the steel and flint rubbing together produces sparks, igniting the foul-smelling gas. Take 30 fire damage as the stairs and island are engulfed in flames and a 15 foot long blast of flame shoots out the opened door." Player: "Oh, that's what that was? Anyway, I'm down, so if someone could feed me a goodberry or something?"

@@crazy4bricksthebrickbrothe722 I had to LITERALLY spell out to my players at one point that there was a VERY likely case of...natural gas in a cave system they were entering..with torches.. It was kind of hillarious. They were staring down the rather badly lit old mine. The lighting coming from some mossy stones that had been clearly added to the walls. A few metal rods sticking out of the side of the wall that seemed to have been a holding spot for a torch. The walls slightly burned for some reason and a smell of rotting eggs and sulfer in the air. One of the players then had the amazing idea of taking out a torch...I just stared at him for a moment as he asked if he could light it and I told him to roll a wisdow check. He rolled pretty high so I just went "You have this..weird feeling..lighting this at this moment might not be the most optimal thing right now..especially since you have the light cantrip!" He stared at me for a moment before it seems like he finally put two and two together and just went "oh..ohhh! There is gas in this mine, aint there...right...duhh" It was honestly hillarious. Normally I wouldn't be that nice but they were both new players and level 1 without a healer..it would have been baaaad
@Bomber6792 жыл бұрын
I thought natural gas didn't actually have a smell, and that the egg smell was manually added in order to make it more obvious. Pretty sure that's why miners kept canaries, so they would pass out, alerting the miners to the gas they couldn't smell.

In contrast, I once built a character who, despite being blind and without turning to look, could address a disguised, shapeshifted, invisible stranger sneaking up on them in magical darkness on the ethereal plane from behind a wall by name, comment on their surface emotions, then ask about the magic item in their pocket which they themselves didn't know was magic. Their minimum perception check was, like, 27 to boot. Of course, it was a level 20 build, most of those features were limited use activated abilities, and I never got to actually play it, but still, would've been amusing, especially with E.B. as their main weapon.

Your party seems to look stiff and fake, and Large papers and Dice are strewn around you. Then, everything goes back to normal."

I remember following a group into a secret meeting. This particular GM allowed Stealth to be maintained (but not initiated) in plain sight, but without mitigating circumstances you'd get a -20 penalty on your check. I didn't even try to hide. I got natural 20s on all my Stealth checks and they got natural 1s on all their Perception checks, which allowed me to stand at the table and watch and listen to their very secret discussion for five minutes before someone came in to deliver a message to one of the group and rolled anything but a 1.

"BECAUSE I WAS UP TO HALF FOUR IN THE MORNING DESIGNING THIS DUNGEON." And then your players walk past it entirely, and spend two hours interrogating a random shopkeep for their backstory, their family's backstory, and where their pet cat has been in the last eight weeks, all of which has to be made up on the spot. Me and my group were once venturing through a dark cave, pitch black. Slowly we made our way through with only a small torch keeping our immediate surroundings lit. Then we heard a noise! I remember someone ACTUALLY min-maxing like this. Hopefully, he was in a group, so it didn't had a huge impact. However, I had him notice things in the most pointless ways for the sake of humor. "Roll me Perception check. Okay, Justin, your Perception is so poor that the only thing you notice and think is relevant is a very large magical cannon. You, however, think it is just a strange tunnel that is the entrance to Lord Grimmeth's Castle, and start thinking it is a good idea to hop in."
