Combat phases is one of my favorite tools to use, so I am glad it was mentioned. Makes the dps prowess less scary and adds so much flavor.

i would add if the sessions starts at combat right out of the gate roll your monsters/npcs initiative beforehand, but let your players know. it will save you just a couple of seconds but it will keep the blood flowing and it will make the combat feel more dynamic.
