This is an interesting race with a passionate personality. Wildfire druids and efreeti genie warlocks are thematic for fire genasi. I personally like the forge cleric with fire genasi, the fires of the forge kind of thing.

Absolutely it works, the forge is nothing without its fire!!! I am starting to really enjoy the GENASI now that I have seen a few more as of late. Seeing how people have played them and the characters they developed. It really opened my eyes to them.

I am currently playing a Fire Genasi in my Curse of Strahd campaign and I am currently enjoying working in the fire aspect of him. His physical attributes are heightened when around a bonfire or another source of an open mouth flame. My genasi is a warlock and I use his in-between plane trauma as his reason to find his patron. This video is helping me fine tune my character to make it feel more fleshed out. Thanks for the content and in-depth overview

I like there being room for non-genie related reasons for them being genasi. For example, they were near a surge of elemental power or something as a child and it transformed them or they were blessed by priests of elemental gods when a baby or something (Kossuth, Amaunator, Horus-Re etc - in Forgotten Realms).

I can’t see a reason for a dm to not accept that. I personally am very attached to the lore of dungeons and dragons. So I tend to make characters from that point of view, but the purpose of a character is to be someone you want to be in that setting. If it’s not fun for you to follow the lore as tightly as I do, then you owe it to your self not to. In D&D there is magical plane touched entities everywhere. They all break into the material plane for what ever reason they see fit. To say it can’t happen is impossible in my mind. Plus depending of what class you would select that’s a great tie in. Personally I see a lot of cleric warlock, and Paladin maybe. It fits a story for a main character.

The flame blade is like Ironman's sword from endgame. He doesn't use it until he has to. But it's nice to have the option.

I think it’s a cool spell. It was one of the original spells that was put in 5e. So as spells have advanced and new spells emerge some have become better variations. Like shadow blade some might say. I feel like the fear of losing concentration scares people, and the lack of concentration spells in min max builds tends to shy people away from it. It was just a Druid spell originally. Druids get medium armor even,with there nonsensical no metal thing, and a shield which makes them pretty tanky for a full spell caster. I mean I’ll use it on a wizard in his underpants, but that’s just me.

I just created a Fire Genasi as a “Forge Domain” cleric named Astrea Embermane, who is a Champion of Purphoros, Theros God of the Forge.

I'm creating a fire genasi gold draconic sorcerer. I'm patterning him after the Human Torch. Fire Shield and Investiture of Flame are his flame on abilities. (Mostly Fire Shield as it's non-concentration) Until then I'm going to use Disguise Self to emulate the self-immolation. As Fire genasis are warm to the touch and my hair can be literally Fire, it's not unreasonable to pull off the effect. His skin will be slightly golden, to reflect his draconic blood.

Depending on how you create the artwork the gold scales could look like the yellow in fire. The way you can interpret the art for your character is so cool. Cus you could make the scales like accents

Ive been running off the newest rules in Tasha's, made a small fire genasi, Astral Self monk. The flavour is great, manifesting flaming arms and "armour" to coat their body thst they can project out to attack at the extended range. Its been a great time 😁

The monk is very very cool. I really gotta play more monk! I feel like they get a bad wrap, but using the new one dnd monk martial arts damage die I think makes a huge difference

I've been thinking about the genasi a lot lately and I've been thinking about making builds that us the elements that are opposite of one another so what about a fire genasi oath of the sea paladin I think that's a very interesting character build and if you want to play into the fire completely then maybe a forge domain cleric would be a nice character idea next I will go to the earth genasi video when I get an interesting character idea with the same opposite elements concept
@TheSinisterheroes Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely something that I think a lot of people will gravitate towards. People love to make characters that are inherently opposite ideas forced to work together.

Flameblade doesn't hit hard, it isn't a weapon so ypu can't add ypur modifier to it or use extra attack with it. As a sorcerer you have way better options, flame blade is super thematic and cool, but it is one of if not the worse 2nd level spells in all of 5e, flaming sphere is infinitely better and so is scorching ray. It does about the same damage as Shillelagh, which is a cantrip.
@TheSinisterheroes10 ай бұрын
If your a caster depending on which type you are you do get different spells which some of them can be the strongest of that spell level. I feel like people really give flame blade a bad wrap. If you can endure the concentration checks the spell lasts for 10 minutes. It’s not a super high damage per round effect. Reasonably speaking you can take it into 2 fights as that 10 minutes is a really long time. 3d6 on one turn not impressive but say you hit half of your attacks, for only a minute that’s 15d6. The potential damage for the spell is obscenely un achievable and not realistic. You can lose concentration you can just miss all night, I get that and I won’t waste any of our time figuring out what that damage is. The thing is people see a 2nd level spell with the same amount of dice as a first level spell and laugh it off, which isn’t really the best way to gauge it. I do love flaming sphere no argument there. Shillelagh only ever dose a d8, and dosent get stronger like other cantrips do. If you take the average roll value for d6 and d8 the difference ends up being like 1 or 1.5 that’s head to head. Add another d6 and the 6’s win. On top of adding another d6 pushing you way over. The real issue is risk, if you don’t want to risk being in melee then this is really bad for you. If you wanna be in melee this spell is absolutely functional, but you will carry the consequences of that.
@colinrobertson758010 ай бұрын
@TheSinisterheroes the thing you aren't taking into account is not applying modifier damage makes it terrible. If you have a plus 4 modifier, that's better than a d6 of damage. Any character that is decent in melee will have better options than flame blade, and if you don't have a better option than flame blade available, you will have low AC and hit points. The sustained damage potential will never actualize in gameplay against living targets. Damage per round is much more important than sustained damage. For context, I have a fire genasi battlesmith artificer that has a +1 weapon and a +5 modifier. When I get this ability, I have extra attack. I can attack twice on my turn for 1d8+6 for 2d6+12 or I could use flameblad and get 3d6 the average damage difference is 19 vs 10.5. If I wanted to dual wield magic weapons, it could be 3d6+18 for average damage of 28.5. Almost triple damage of flame blade with no spell slot. Also consider green flame blade, a cantrip, can do weapon damage +1d6, and then spell modifier to another target. This should work out to at least 2d6+2 and +3 to another target for a total of 12.5 average damage with 2 targets. That cantrip is a fire sword ability that is superior to a 2nd level spell.
@TheSinisterheroes10 ай бұрын
That’s also as a level 5 character as opposed to a level 2 character. Also There’s a few ways you can add your modifier to it. DRACONIC sorcerer at level 6 evocation wizard. Don’t get me wrong you can just use a shortsword that happens to have flame tongue and you will out deal that damage from flame blade that’s a fact with a plus 1 for strength or dex. Total fact and that’s a super easy weapon to have. The part of the equation that gets skewed is how the spell was implemented. It is only on the Druid spell list using Tasha’s optional rules it’s on the sorcerer. Neither of those classes get extra attack from there core abilities, the Druid will through certain wildshapes and depending on its choice to be moon or not would greatly impact this. The genasi were not even released yet when the spell was in since it was put in in the phb. With all that in consideration it was meant for a very gish sequence for the Druid specifically. And competitively speaking at level 2 for a Druid it’s a very compelling option. As a 5th level artificer comparing your melee attacks to a 2nd level spell isn’t a match up that’s fair because you get fireball at that level for sorcerers, and Druids have erupting earth and call lightning erupting earth is 3d12 on a fail half on save to a 20ft cube. At higher levels these spells fall off. Usually at the next tier. This spell is no different.
@colinrobertson758010 ай бұрын
@TheSinisterheroes the 5th level comparison, is because that is when a genasi gets it, and genasi were given it fairly recently, so it is fair to compare it on that basis. Still, even as a level 3 druid flaming sphere can be used while attacking with cantrips, it will always be better. There isn't a single build or possible scenario that I can't think of a better option for other than perhaps cutting through cursed vines that are weak to fire for exactly 10min.
@TheSinisterheroes10 ай бұрын
I happen to enjoy the spell a lot. I used it a bunch of times. Even when I played a genasi sorcerer. At level 5 I still used it. Is it the highest damage per round ability no, is it close to fireball no. That I totally agree with you. It’s not the highest damage dealing option at that point. I still had a lot of fun using it and I definitely will do it again.
