I don't ever want to miss out on goodies from leveling up, so one of the things I do is jot down abilities that my character would get from races (or anything outside of the contents of the main class and subclass) in the notes section of my character sheet. Otherwise, for example, I may forget that my Dark Elf would gain a single use of Faerie Fire at 3rd level and Darkness at 5th. Also... there are times that I may "look ahead" to what I want my character to get when they reach a certain level and jot those ideas down in the "notes" section of my character sheet so I can remember them when they reach that level... A little note on feats: Like multi-classing, they are technically an optional rule. Common etiquette says you always first inquire your DM about if they use a given optional rule. That said, to this day I haven't met a single DM who disallows feats. Another thing that full spellcasters, and others with who can use cantrips, sometimes overlook when leveling up: At levels 5, 11 and 17, your cantrips might also improve in a way described in the description of each given cantrip. It's mostly your damage dealing cantrips that will improve in this way and usually by one die, but make sure you don't miss how your fire bolt should now be dealing 2d10 instead of simply 1d10 fire damage from level 5 and onwards. For those who multiclass, you'll be pleased to know that these improvements happen at your total character level rather than individual class level. All of this will likely be explained in other episodes, but since those episodes likely won't be directly tied to leveling up (such as a multi-class episode) and this is something people overlook when leveling up, I wanted to bring it up here as well.

I didn't realize you get retro-active HP gain when you increase your Con mod until this video. #mindblown

Thank you, now I realize why I felt so squishy! Turns out I just never applied any HP bonuses... I'm pretty lucky I haven't died yet in my current game

Can you do an episode that walks through the Character sheet, section by section? I showed one to a first timer and they got kinda over whelmed trying to read and flip around.

As a 3.5e dm (10 years) im finding 5e different to learn. These videaos are helpful even to experianced players even if its just one thing per video. Like the when you boost con and level up you get hit points of 1 per previous level. Didnt know that

That rule increasing your HP retroactively when your CON score goes up is clearly defined as far back as 2E, and is definitely a part of 3E/3.5; I've looked in my 1E PH, which doesn't really mention it, but I think it would still work.
