hi phil ...that is a nice tidy pond . that is exactly the same as my diy shower however i went for a stack of six and juat wanted to ask and add two things ... i have adapted the bottom unit which has no media but it acts like a sump for crap that makes its way through i have also made a genius way of making sure the docs cant get through back into the pond they stay in the bottom unit until flushed ... obviously the bottom tray needs a waste outlet and i did nt see one on yours .. i also put diy venturis on the return pipes .

Richie T hi after having monitored the media i have no waste in the bottom set as of yet i do have 4 layers of various foams in the top which seem to do the job of stopping any waste going through. my bakki media is clean in the middle and bottom chambers so happy with the shower at minute . 👍👍

Hello Phil, US hobbyist here. I've been told that the biohome media is popular with UK Koi pond owners & aquarium hobbyists in Asia. However I also have heard that because this media is basically sand packed together, it eventually "melts" away. Have you noticed a reduction in size over the years?
@Tom_Prendiville5 жыл бұрын
Its made from sintered glass and it doesn't degrade (yes glass is basically sand)

Wicked pond mate. I'm a novice at koi ponds. We have a 45000 liter pond with only goldfish currently (came with the house) I'm looking into DIY filters. Does this design scale well for larger ponds?

Markus Darkus the bakki shower is really designed to go after water has already been through a filter if you get what i mean as the media needs to stay relatively clean in order for the water to throw through it. I used bio home ultra which is the rolls royce of medias and not cheap. It has however made my water quality a lot better if you see my latest video which i uploaded yesterday you will see. Good luck

I get ya. Yeh makes sense. I will check it out. Thanks mate

If you check out pond guru videos he does an in depth talk on different types of media and Richard would surely help you should you want any bio home media 👍👍👍

Hello Phil. Thanks for the video, great detail. I'm planning on something similar using Siporax. How is the filter holding up, did you change the pump or leave it as it was. What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels like now. Cheers. You sound like a fellow West midlander :)
@shunter667 жыл бұрын
Simon , hi Simon I'm originally from West Bromwich, but now live in Leicester as regards the filter it's working fine, ph levels are around 7.2 to 7.5 , ammonia is virtually a trace, KH levels are around 6 so it works well along side my eazi pod. Personally with a bakki filter like mine I wouldn't use siporax due to the surface area of the media, the bakki house media is expensive but well worth the extra cost. If you search for pond guru on KZbin , Richard does a in depth video on a home made bakki shower with all the different types of media, well worth a watch, thanks for looking and i shall do an update soon on my pond so watch out for that 👍👍

Thanks for the reply. I built mine today, your video certainly helped thank you. I already had the Siporax so used that in one bay, Aflagrog in another and the foams and white cotton wool stuff in the top bay. It's all I can afford at the moment. I can always upgrade later. My pond is only 800 gallon so it should help with the biological side of things. I had already watched Pondguru's videos, they led me to yours lol. KZbin is amazing. Anyway thanks again. (Y)

that media is a fortune phil but well worth it!. Are you getting the full cycle through you bakki ?
@pondguru8 жыл бұрын
They are very strong boxes and that has to have an incredible effect on the nitrates (once the media is mature). Shame you didn't live nearer as I've been offered two large koi and I don't want to put them in my pond as I'm being bothered by otters currently.

They do buddy, in the cracks and on the rough surface. Just not as effective as other types of media.
