FYI the spoken word part in the middle is done by the vocalist of the band Sikth, Mikee Goodman. Sikth is an OG prog metal band that inspired bands like Periphery and Tesseract

OH SHIT! IT"S HAPPENING!!! This is easily one of the most impressive songs they have ever written. This song is also THE OPENER of P4. What a bold move to open an album with an almost 17 minute song from a band that hasn't done that before.
@TabbyWithMittens2 ай бұрын
I always love telling people I like listening to a 16-17 minute song and their expression is always funny xD Idk how or why but I can listen to this song so easily without getting bored or impatient. Double points if I’m working because it hypes me up.

I will watch literally anyone react to this crazy ass song for the first time. To this day I think some of the high points in this track are as good as metal can get. The middle section is some of Spencer's best vocals and the guitar section right after it is impossible to resist headbanging to.

Periphery likes to end a lot of songs with 1+ minute long synth sections. Always so nice
@HiroBrown3 ай бұрын
I struggled at first to get through the first section thinking they could’ve done without that many verses but the pay off in the middle section is so beautiful particularly “rich poor” and then “pray through night”. Then the guitar solo into the orchestra was so seamless. This one was at the point where the band was not on a big label and just wanted to do whatever they want. They definitely have been experimenting from Periphery 3 onwards!

One small recommendation I have is to just take a look at the lyrics and try to decode what the song is about. It makes the song that much more impactful. A lot do themes about greed in this song. Hence the title “reptile” referring to a slithery green creature named “Billy” (billionaire) who “liked to get high.” The ending has a lot to do with how despite the differences in wealth and income, at the end of the day people like Billy are no different than you and I and the soil they claim to own is the soil we all get buried in one way or another.

Just sitting and listening to a song this long without a music video is honestly impressive lol I would feel like I have to start cleaning, dancing, or doing something else to make sure I don't actually start tweaking out 😭 I paused this video so many times it took me almost an hour to watch the whole thing but it was worth it 😂 except the fact the last minute, or however long, was just that noise is kind of obnoxious, like what was even the point in including that lol I hate when bands do that but otherwise the song was pretty good. I feel like people would have to get really angry before being able to play drums that long, like you gotta be fueled by something more than just standard energy. It's like sometimes when I have to carry something really heavy I think about people who hurt animals or the fact that communists exist and then I put all that rage into lifting and carrying whatever it is lol if I start feeling like I can't do it anymore, I just am like "F YOU COMMIES" (I scream it in my head so I don't look insane) and then it's like a little boost of strength. BUT ANYWAY, I don't think i've ever seen a song that got Andrea to close her eyes for an extended period of time, homie was vibing for real. I still want Andrea's shirt...it's so cute.

@@dna2001 I love you! you guys are all the best for real and you gotta try it!! I know it sounds crazy but it works 🤣 being angry floods your system with stress hormones and it limits the blood flow to the gut and redirects it to our muscles which is part of the reason why people get stomach pain when they are really stressed or mad. There's logic behind my insanity sometimes lol and now you can try it if you ever need to impress wheels (more than you already do)! This song was pretty cool though, I do agree with that, but I definitely was struggling to get through it more than I expected to so you clearly know me very well 😓

This song is fine and all but Lune is better. They're my favorite band but I wouldn't even put Reptile in their top 10 tracks. People are too hung up on how long it is and a few specific moments but at several points it could've just been made in to different songs and you'd never know. They have so many better structured songs that are more technically impressive than this while being much more catchy at the same time. I listen to their discography a lot still but I only listen to this track again for reactions.
@darkphoenix23 ай бұрын
I can understand thinking Reptile could be broken up into separate songs but I think it's irrelevant to the quality of the music itself
