I came close to seeing the edge and falling over it. Life is an abyss, but we're here together at least.

@@aliciafoley7784 Eventually you get used to it and it just sort of becomes part of your identity and experience. Kind of like going from Hell to Purgatory, and that's where you'll likely stay. It just becomes home, so over time it doesn't carry the same weight anymore and it's just your normal. That's why where I live, people say "Life sucks and then you die."

Some say it is about a miscarriage. I believe that both are possible but "blue lights" are the color of ambulance lights in England and he states that it is he that is waking up surrounded (not her). So I believe you are correct it is about wanting to be drowned symbolically and swallowed/ eroded to nothing.

Top 3 ST song for certain, it’s so raw and vulnerable and yet so changeable. It really sets up the subterranean theme for the album 👌🏼 Also, I’ve listened to this song probably a few hundred times and EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear the bass drop between the ‘chapters’ I get chills and my whole body tingles. The common fan interpretation is that this song is about the aftermath of a failed suicide attempt. A very strong opener for the album, and very sad. :( But it sets the tone for a lot of the tracks on TPWBYT, so have tissues at the ready!

I know this one is often interpreted as a suicide attempt, but I always imagined it as the aftermath of a car crash, where the driver survives and ends up in a coma, but his girlfriend ends up dead. "Blue lights" referencing the ambulance lights, "over murder for me" implying he was at fault (DUI?)

You could potentially be correct. But to argue that, he states I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets, just orbiting the vacuum I am. I believe he is depressed, and he feels like everyone is drained from having to deal with him, or console him. This referring to a possible self harm event. In the song High Water he says : for the time being, you are still a perfect reminder of what all of these scars on my arms are for. I would argue that this theme continues into tpwbyt. In tmbte. You can tell that he is freeing himself from this tomb, from the way he used to feel. And he is finally free. Just my take, but I love your theory. Because in granite we see the theme of a car being brought up, especially when he says, so keep an eye on the road or we will both be here forever.

The screech I screeched when I saw the notification for this was unreal. This song really tears me up. No one seems to know for sure what it's about, but I love songs like that, like when they are open to interpretation. My daughter and I just saw Sleep Token from the front row recently. I thought we both would have been a screaming drooling mess but actually it was so surreal that we both feel like it never happened. It feels like a dream. Since the three albums are supposedly a trilogy, I think it’s important to consider how the last album ended-with Vessel resigned that his relationship is a blood sport that he can’t win, and then crying. And then we have Atlantic, which definitely references waking up in a hospital after some sort of accident (some think failed suicide attempt, some think car accident that led to a miscarriage with a pregnant partner). I also think the lines “flood me like Atlantic/bandage up the trenches/anything to get me to sleep” is in reference to how it feels to get medication through an IV-it feels like your body is being flooded, and he wants them to bandage up the wounds from the accident and then flood him with whatever it takes to let him sleep and forget what he’s going through. Heartbreaking 😭😭😭 This album is probably my favorite but it is a wild ride and it is SUPER emotional. I can’t wait! Also, side note: Andrea you look especially lovely in that outfit! Dallas, you look great too, but the colors are popping for Andrea in a way that caught my eye. Keep up the great work, ladies! 😄

It's probably an experience aside from the performance itself and I would totally understand. 🤣 Also happy you guys are onto this great album. Atlantic is one of my favorite ST songs and that's sayin a lot obviously lol. There's a lot of theories to what this song means and after racking my brain reading the lyrics..and balling my eyes out lol..I think it's about Vessel or somebody he knows getting in a car accident where somebody lost their life. They wake up in the hospital and their family reveals to them what happened. The subject feels so overwhelmed with guilt that they'd almost rather die than face the reality. So much so it's also like the weight of the ocean on them. -Call me when they bury bodies underwater It's blue light over murder for me -Flood me like Atlantic..anything to get me to sleep They just want the hospital to pump them full of drugs and finish treating their wounds so they can just be left alone. Someone also told me there's a possible reference to the car accident in Dark Signs which could be another clue as to what Atlantic means. -And if you saw the marks on my dashboard..the new scars I didn't ask for Vessel continues to fortify my newfound appreciation for poetry, lyricism and song writing. Love his ability to paint pictures with words and metaphors. Too good! Don't worry the rest of the album isn't quite so sad lol. Look forward to the next! 🙏

The way I see it this song has 2 potential meanings. First one is that Vessel is coming out of a coma after getting into a car crash that was his fault, which led to the death of someone (most likely his girlfriend) and is being told the consequences of his actions by people surrounding his hospital bed, meanwhile Vessel just wants to be put back into a coma to avoid living with the reality of what he’s done. The other meaning could be that he’s waking up in a hospital bed after a failed suicide attempt and each song after this one is like a timeline that led up to said suicide attempt. I’m not sure which one to go with yet because this song is cryptic as hell.

@@apeflight5553 I’ve heard the car crash theory as well, and I always just felt more of a suicide attempt with the lyrics like “bandage up the trenches and wash away the blood on my hands”, however, my mind might be blown after really thinking it through. The blood on his hands is metaphorical for the person who died in the crash, he woke up from a coma and wants to go back to sleep because he now has to face the actual consequences and even more so the emotional ones. after a few days and many reviews i have now come to the conclusion that this song is one of the saddest i have ever heard , knowing there is a few meanings this song has been interpreted with breaks my living being , first theory is that this is about vessel and how he lost his daughters in miscarriage. second theory is that this was a suicide attempt , trying to get to "sleep" "dont wake me up" hits hard for me too i cried so hard the first time i heard this song and again when i found these speculations i just dont know how to express what i feel when i listen to sleep token BUT i will comment on all of the videos i watch you NEED to react to " are you really okay"

Basic lore of Sleep Token: Vessel was visited in a vivid dream by an entity called Sleep, and he has devoted all his time henceforth to trying to understand Sleep and 'worship' Sleep. Some of us, begrudgingly, know Vessel's true identity (don't fall into temptation like I did and look. Its better to live in bliss with this music) but suffice to say that Sleep may indeed be about a woman he can no longer have a relationship with, for unknown reasons. So a lot of songs are about his desire to be a part of her again, his struggles with their current situation, his frustrations with past things said/done, etc. An overall theme I kind of get from Vessel is that he longs for actual sleep (perhaps he's an actual insomniac) and when he gets actual sleep, he can visit Sleep, and feel more at peace, and when he is awake, he lives in agony for that longing. Could be way off, could be dead on, who knows. It's just how I've heard and seen Vessel interact with the world around him.

@@BlehgarySD it was easily the most powerful song I have ever seen live. What’s crazy to me is, at Red Rocks, it’s hard to get that place quiet. There were easily 10,000 ppl there. The moment this song started to play, you could hear a pin drop. I could hear the person next to me breathing that’s how intense this song was. There is a portion of the song where a girl screams “I love you” really loud and you could have heard that from the very top of the stands. You can hear the emphasis vessel puts on certain words and the way he sung was slower and the notes were just a little bit different. It was perfect to be totally honest. I agree, such a beautiful song.

Then I went back to this album and I can't for the life of me understand why I didn't get into it earlier. Not a bad song in the bunch, in my opinion. Maybe more of a grower but that's individual.
