I had the opportunity to know Edmund O'Brien's daughters, Maria and Bridget. I told them this is one of my favorite film noirs of al time. Unfortunately, Edmund was not doing well and I couldn't tell him myself.

A plot that defies logic & stretches the viewer's imagination, only becomes more bizarre as time passes!! Too many characters to try to keep up with, & frankly, probably 1/3 could have been eliminated w/out impacting the story. Frankly, the motive for so many murders is rather oblique, even after it's been revealed!!

This is really not a very good film. Way below the normal standards of O'Brien. Pamela Britton is dreadful as his continually whining and self-involved supposed girlfriend. He should have dumped her long before this (so should the studio!) Some of other actors are barely okay, but Neville Brand always overacted. The script is extremely bad and direction is third rate. The late and usually much better actor, Edmund O'Brien, did finer work than this during his long career. But then, he didn't have much to work with. (and what's that gawdawful, juvenile whistling and watermark foolishness that ruins the more the tolerable scenes?...surely some idiot dubbed that in.) A lousy movie channel!!!

The most fantastic thing about this plot is getting any kind of medical diagnosis in just a few hours, at least in this day and age. Still one of the best.
