At 6:18, if there is no repulsion between electrons in d(xy), d(x2-y2) and incoming ligand electrons, why the energy of these orbitals go down instead not remaining in the same energy level previously where they are..? Why these orbitals are loosing energy from the barycentre, why these orbitals are stabilizing?

I found this video some 5 or 6 years after it was posted. I also found your other video for the octahedral and tetrahedral crystal field. In that other video, you provide some info about the crystal field splitting energy ("delta"). Can you share some info about the crystal field splitting between d-orbitals presented in THIS video? That would help a lot.

@thisisbipin4 жыл бұрын
Its convention
@maryamdaneen71904 жыл бұрын
True we get confused which axis to choose. I think it s better to memorise the splitting. Once it s understood the concept like how repulsion destabilses the system and all that. It s for sure to remember the trend.

Sir! as per Huheey, Trigonal Prismatic geometry splits with dxy and dx2-y2 being lowest energy orbitals followed by dz2 and then followed by dxz and dyz
@AllBoutChemistry6 жыл бұрын
Qounsar Usmani, Yes you're very correct that in Huhyee it is given that dz² has more energy than dxy and dx²-y² But if you will see the answer key from CSIR of Dec 2017 Question 30 of Set-A then answer is what I've explained. I think in Huhyee they've made some mistake there, and that may be corrected in latest edition of the book. This is the reason I always suggest everyone to go with concept, if you apply concept then dz² should have less energy than all others. I hope the explanation in the video will help you understand this.

Hello sir there is one question..i want to know that before splitting d orbital they are called degenerate or non degenrate.please reply me
@AllBoutChemistry4 жыл бұрын
Degeneracy is a term coined in Quantum Mechanics and according to that an energy level is degenerate if it corresponds to two or more different measurable states of a quantum system. So before splitting its non-degenerate and after splitting its degenerate
@chemistrywithsuveenawadhwa48334 жыл бұрын
