After a category 3 tornado hit here in Tennessee, many homes were found to be not up to code. Once it's built the inner structure is not visible. My Fiancé and I actually backed out of a new home with DR Horton cause of their build quality. The bricking was awful, but they tried to say it's suppose to look that way. The hallway walls and closet wall was badly crooked. Trim work was awful, holes in the walls that were not cleaned up. The exterior was covered with both stone and brick. The bricking was laid crooked in many areas and the stone in the front of the house was badly chipped off that you need to restone the front. The cement the A/C unit sits on was badly cracked and coming apart. The facia board on the front of the house needed a replacement. This is how it looked close to closing. I felt if we had purchased, trying to have these issues fixed would be a hassle cause once you sign the dotted line, you can forget it.

My basement drain in the furnace room was the floor high point. I could go on with all the problems that we ands neighbors had from no flashing to crack foundations.
