Never understood how, or why, this band didn't get more exposure, or become bigger than they did. Kurt always had an unmistakable vocal sound/style, and always helped the band stand apart from anyone else out there. If you heard him, then you knew it was D.R.I. I wish I could say I'd been listening to them since their onset, way back in the 1980's, but I'd be lying like a mofo. Lol. I didn't discover them until 1992, back when I was only 12 years old, after seeing a different band on one of my favorite TV shows back then, Married With Children (I don't like to name drop other bands, even if I love them, when discussing a particular band, like I am right now). After seeing that other band, I eventually found Headbangers Ball on MTV late one Saturday night/early Sunday morning (back when MTV was good, and an actual music channel), back sometime in 1992. One of the first videos I ever saw on there, one summer Saturday night/early Sunday morning, was D.R.I.'s video for Acid Rain. Even after having brain surgery, back in 2020, I can still recall the next weekend, getting my mom to drive me to Best Buy, and me picking up their album, Definition. I instantly loved it, and eventually started picking up more of their stuff, as well as eventually learning what "Thrash" was. Cannot believe that was over 30 years ago now... Time flies, man, even if you're not having any fun. Lol.

Takes me back to the first few times I saw them In Miami at The Cameo Theatre & Club Nu, etc. around 1988 - '91 back in High School & after graduation years. Great time being that age in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami hardcore scene. Always going to shows any given nights of the week. I knew sooo many bands, just a network of local punk, death metal, ska, skin & thrash bands all woven in with other bands from all over. DRI's shows always brought in a good mix of people between skins/ punk/ longhairs. Sometimes tensions ran high in lots of insanely brutal pits back in the day! So many shows, nights, bands, clubs, beer, booze & other enhancements. Im amazed we made it home half the time. (DRI was definitely a featured band in my circles...amongst many other great bands too) They still sound tight. Still chugging away. Its a good thing 🤘😎🎸👍

I spent a few weeks in '86 hangin' and jammin' with the dudes from DRI in Everett Washington....it was the first foray into my musical exploration...I was so into Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Kreator at the time...but these guys opened me up and helped me become a much more creative individual...

Agree. Some say COC was, but COC really doesn't appeal to be except for a few records, DRI kept a real hardcore vibe while being heavy as shit. COC went from hardcore shit like Technocracy to sludge metal almost overnight. Not to say COC doesn't have cool tunes, but DRI is #1 for me in Xover.

Gotta give a toast to Josh, former bassist for DRI. Shit I saw DRI back in fuck 88 or 89 with Anicrusis. Small gig but raging as shit. There were punks and metal heads there (i was one of them) and no one gave a shit. It was finally OK to NOT beat the shit out of someone who didnt look like you.
