BL Buhler hey man, I am not to familiar with AA hockey and the league down there so it’s hard for me to have a good answer. I know there’s always a chance for walk ons so if you get the opportunity to try out go for it! The odds would be lower for a walk on though.

AA hockey in Alabama is equivalent to B level (or worse) hockey anywhere else. I don't mean to shit on your dreams, but you'll visit Mars before you play D1 hockey.

The AA hockey in my area has won the USA national championship a few times in the past years for U18 so it really depends anywhere and just how you play, I know guys who walked into D2 and D3 but idk about D1

Hey, definitely shoot for getting on a junior team because there is great exposure for D1 and D3 in junior. Just play your game in juniors, teams need every type of player. Go to a place where you can get lots of playing time and develop the most.

@@mattburg1653 My understanding is that generally D1 practices more and playing D1 hockey is more like a full time job in addition to academics. D3 is more balanced between academics sports but the speed of the game is slightly slower. D1 schools are often seen as higher level and they have a greater budget to spend on coaches and skill development of their players. D1 teams are also generally more competitive to get on.

Matt Burg The amount of Ice time is the same in D1 and D3. You practice everyday for 1-2 hours and can go on early/stay after practice for skills.
