How much advanced do I need to set my adjustable cam gear? I try to set the timing but either one or the other is off and I can't figure it out. Thanks

If you are doing a mini me build the timing will always be about a half tooth off. There is no way around it. The adjustable gear will allow you to move the cam gear that half tooth so the belt will line up with the groves on the gear.

Hey I’m working on a jdm d15 block with a d16y8, I just did the timing belt but I think it’s off a little. How do I set the timing without an adjustable gear?
@MrJayDM Жыл бұрын
The way I understand it, because of the differences between the D15 and d16 deck height of the blocks it will always be a half tooth off. Obviously you can't set it at a half tooth so you have to set it at a full tooth off. Here is where the adjustable timing gear comes into play. It will fix that half tooth and then the timing will be spot on. Now people will say use a z6 or y7 or the D15 timing belt, you can also try different tensioners because some are smaller and some are bigger. There are all.kinds of theories of what combination works, I have not tested each combination so I personally dont know. An adjustable gear is the easiest solution. Sorry, I'm not much help.

I was just watching my video because I couldn't remember exactly how I explained it. And as I thought I basically say the same thing around the end of the video.

Timing is always a 1/2 tooth off on a mini-me. Having an adjustable timing gear is the solution.

hi i have a d15b non vtech. can i just slap a d16 vtech head on the d15 ? new to honda engines
@MrJayDM2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a D-Series non vtec block with a vtec is called a mini-me swap. There is a ton of information on this. If you want vtec to work you will need a vtec ecu and run some wires from the ecu to the vtec.

@@MrJayDM hi sir i have d15bz4 none vtec i can use d16y8 head what is the convertion can you tell pls
@MrJayDM2 жыл бұрын
@@marvinreyes6270 it should pretty much be the same as my video. The y7 and y8 head are almost the same. I'm pretty sure the timing marks are the same. Set TDC on the crank according to the crank gear and set TDC on the head according to the cam gear marks. The combination of belt and tensioner will depend on how much slack is in the belt. Use a y8 belt and the d15 tensioner. If it's too loose use the d15 belt or vise versa.
