Just got my replacement D2 sowbelly from SMKW yesterday! I had bought it off Chicago knife works, but the Spey blade had wobble, so I returned it, and bought it from SMKW and it’s very nice. I have to thank thrifty kannify for really introducing me to the sowbelly pattern. It’s def my fav stockman pattern, as I find the 3.75 size perfect for pocket carry, and the handle shape fits nicely in my palm. I’ve even come to like the lesser known sowbelly trapper pattern as well, for the same reasons. I carry my slipjoints in my fifth pocket, and that works nicely for myself. I tried getting into using slips, but I can’t get past the fact that you have to take extra steps to use your knife. Regardless, thank you for your great reviews of these budget slip joints, they really help me decide what I think I’d like. Would love to see more vintage knife reviews, I know you’ve done some, and I’d love to see more. I’ve been thinking about making some videos on my vintage knives, cuz I haven’t seen many vids on certain ones on KZbin. Not really interested in being a content creator, but I’m down with just making a bunch of short 5 min vids and posting them for whoever would find them helpful. Keep up the great work John!

Yes. I really recommend the Solace Lite from Real Steel for not much more than £20 here in the uk it’s such a great knife to carry and use. Lite it certainly is, and an amazing blade. So sharp and thin behind the edge. The D2 is so easy to keep shaving sharp and the warnecliffe style with very slight belly and slicey thin blade stock all combined for one of my favourite and most practical edc knives that are so very pocketable. It’s so slim. I love it and carry and use it a lot and because it’s so cheap I don’t have to be precious about it.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it. I think it makes for a great EDC as well. One I would use as a 3rd knife apart from my main stable of carries since it has the clip.

The Luna immediately made me think of a 'modernized' Sodbuster design. I loves me some Sodbuster. Not only would any if these be nice to carry (although none of them is likely to replace my EDC SAK) but, for someone like me who isn't going to/can't afford to pay the per knife price to collect Case knives, could give a nice 'theme' for affordable knives to make it possible to collect the entire series without having to sell a kidney or something. I also really like D2, 1095, etc. and don't feel the need for 'supersteels' for my use.
@ThriftyKaniffy
@ThriftyKaniffy 4 ай бұрын
Yes there are a lot of subcategories in which to collect, you don't have to go the Case route. I also very much like 1095 and don't feel the need for high end steels for EDC. Not to say I won't buy a high end one to play around with though. Thanks JAB

Neat video. The price for D2 blade today was $5, the price for a 440c blade $ 5, the price for cpm magnacut $ 10.50. Thats retail pricing of course wholesale prices would be substantially cheaper. 😊
