Another thing to note when choosing what to revive, is their size! Some monsters have a larger model and can BLOCK your other summons from spreading out when you teleport around. Which forces you to move/walk after teleporting to let your army spread out. Thanks again for this wonderful informative video, keep it up!

Great series. Thanks! Thoughts from a long time Summon Necro 1. The Demon Bats (Dark Familiars, etc) are fantastic. In numbers (8+) they swarm faster than ghosts but also can cluster on one opponent to effectively telestomp, going from one enemy to the next in rapid succession. Nothing better than having something approaching 20 of them just murdering everything on the screen allowing corpse explosion at greater distances. 2. Cows are great for mini-Ubers, bosses and tough super uniques (and I use a combo of cows and Urdars/Maulers to take out the Ubers). I'll sometimes just open the cow portal for a source of revives when I'm early end-game (summoning skills in the high-20s and low-30s). 3. Blood Lords (frenzy minotaurs) are great telestomp (I've used them against Baal since they are usually in the Ancients Way and Worldstone Keep). And they are good for keeping you safe when you are just roaming around as they are also hyper-aggressive engaging opponents before they can get to you. They do take up quite a bit of space. 4. Most flying revives, on teleport, will fan out in a circle around your core army which is very helpful. So while hell temptressess and ilk are best, even some of the lame flying crow things can offer temporary teleport protection so your merc can engage behind them to get that first kill. 5. I have noticed that one advantage of elemental beings that are immune to the thing they shoot (like gloams) in that in many cases they seem to block/stop aimed attacks of that element. I noticed this on a theory build seeing if my Skeleton Mages could kill Baal if I teleported away from him. The cold attack kept killing the mages, but if I grabbed some cold immune revives, they seemed to form a outer ring and none of us (me or skeletons) appeared to be harmed by the cold wave, so I could hang in much longer, until Baal came close enough for physical attack. Same for the gloams. If I keep up a dozen or more doom casters around I get hit way less often, they seem to stop the lightning. I haven't done a ton of research here, doesn't seem to work with poison clouds, etc.

Sirens are excellent minions if you wanna take a really hands-off approach: if you have about 10 of them the projectiles alone are just devastating and they curse for you. Snakes are another good choice where they're aggressive and hit hard with Bash.

Easy enough fix: just have the revive duration scale based on the skill level at about 20 seconds per level on the skill. With decent gear a 1 point revive would be about the same duration ~200 seconds from plus skills, but fully invested revive would be closer to 600 seconds (10m) or more. I think that would encourage players to go out, find good candidates (Ghosts) and then use them as a part of their army not just the only active part of a summoner outside of amp and CE.

I find 3-5 Revives are a good number to have. I just wish that Skeleton Mastery or a Skeleton skill (regular and/or magi) synergized to increase Revive duration. By the way Flayer/Stygian enemies are absolutely terrifying to fight but are hilarious to watch as a Revive. I think I had an "Extra Fast" one at some point and it just took off into the sunset to go fight something. I'd add a cartoon dust trail to them if I could. Never did find the little blighter again for the rest of that floor.

Vigor Aura from harmony bow ;) It doesn't actually increase the duration but revives do get more done in less time. Also the speed boost on revives make alot of revives more viable so even avg speed monsters will be viable.

@@godknightomega Yep I switched from Commander Auramancer to Bowmancer a long time ago. Instead of ACT 2 might merc I have ACT 1 merc with Bramble and Harmony. ACT 1 Merc gives me inner sight, vigor and thorns and the most important thing is ranged attack. Act 2 merc is awesome if he actually fights however you too have probably seen how Act 2 merc likes to camp and does nothing. And his might aura compared to thorns... not that great My Necro uses Faith bow (level 14 fanaticism). That way me and Act 1 merc support summons with ranged attacks doing far more damage then skeletal mages. A good harmony bow can give your Merc almost 2k damage now if you add amp damage its almost 4k same goes with Faith bow. And it works with players 8 too. My Iron golem is expensive on the other hand since I use rift golem. Basically what I wanted is to make my party much better at actual fighting overall as oppossed to just beef individual summons. Iron Golem rift proc causes AOE damage. Me and Act 1 merc attack from distance in saftey and revives/skeletons engage super fast adding more bodies on targets faster and thus gaining "DPS boost"

Mm, I still think gloams arent bad revives. You still have to fight other skeletal mages and snakes who will get fried by the gloams. Other good revives include the thorned hulks (especially act 5 guest monsters), snakes, corrupted rogue archers. Balrogs (or venom lords) are pretty good too. You can't revive oblivion knights, but their fighing equivalents i.e. doom and abyss knights can be revived and are pretty good. Also because they come in a multiple of elements you dont have the same issue as you mention with the gloams

Thx for the video I learn a lot. As a kid I love playing Necro and Revive was like the coolest skill of them all to revive any monster it was playing a real RP in Diablo where you can use normal monster and not just skeletons. I wish Revive could be a level 5 skill coz would be fun to start a game with just falinks then u revive better monster like Mishapen. And imagine u kill the Smith u can now revive him and u have a powerful Ox on ur side. I remember when I was watching my bro playing, he was able to have bosses like Andariel as a revived but I guessing it was just a mod. And wish there was a super rare item that could lock the duration on Revive so u can actually have monsters forever till they die. And the saddest part with Revive u wont keep the monster from other acts. I was thinking army of Beetles would be useful coz of how powerful Lightnings are and they can be massive defensive. But yeah at least Revive is a fun skill to use anytime. o3o

Its fun to use a summoner for cows with amp damage and corpse explosion. I can summon 17 skeletons, 11 mages, and 23 revives. It's funny to bring them back to the rogue encampment and they all start dying and there's just cow corpses all in the camp lol

I personnally try to revive only flying mobs. preferance for the spectral bats like in the kalim sewer for their mobility / reaction time. Maybe you should talk about the body blocking. When you telestomp with only merc + golem + squeletons, it's ok, they instantly move to the target they wanna hit. If you add just one non flying revive, it's finished, they are body blocked til the revive decide to move from the pack. With only flyiing revive there is not this pbl / bug? But carefull it's a little bit epileptic visually to see all your revive pack expand between each teleport! >

Oh and tips. The succubes can cast the amplify dmg curse for you. Can be good when you try to fast run mfing zones sometimes :) But beware the other curses that can overwrite your own amp dmg >

My suggestion for revive skill is this. Nerf hp scaling to 40% at all levels. damage the same # of revives the same Duration is now permanent.

Just noting here; Revive on the Harmony runeword is currently the fastest way to solo ubers from a fresh start. Current uber speedrun record utilizes it for Mephisto

Revives are great for mini-boss fights. It would be great to lengthen their duration. My clvl ~70 Necro is 20/20/20/9 when it comes to mastery/warrior/mage/revive.

I think there is no need to have mages AND skeletons. Pick one. Mages are by far the weakest. You don't even really need skeletons if you have revive, revive is much better than skeleton warrior except for long boss fights.

Revives are great for no summoning builds, for 7 points you can revive enemies that in higher difficulties can be very tanky. Level 1 revive can give you quite a number of revives as well with + necro skills gear

reviving mobs that immune to element which they deal damage with is not bad at all if your goal to surpass location with these mobs. Month ago i was struggling to clear worldstone chamber lvl 4 filled up with fokin lightning souls. There were my physical bowazon. But Revive lvl 20 in my runeword bow saved the day: reviving couple of those souls and making them to tank all another alive souls while my bowazon kills them - that turned clearing of that location to EASY from nearly impossible

On a completely different note, but related to all the summoning skills… Does magic find work with your skeleton army/revives, wolves/bear/vine/Valkyrie.. It’s not you killing the monsters..

The strongest thing about revive is as the game goes on, the monsters get stronger, just like corpse explosion, so skeleton isnt gonna be stronger as the game goes on , but revive is,

I was looking for such guide for like 2 days and it's finally there. I like the minions which you mention and AI mechanics behind about it, the only thing what do I miss, are like explanation of perfect setup of "revived army". I am not experianced player, player d2r for 10h [as necro only, but this video helps a lot!. The "perfect setup" with like 10-20-30-40 minions would be intresing i think.

Well let me help you. Max raise skeleton, skeleton mastery corpse explosion and golem mastery. 1 point revive, 1 point summon mastery. 1 point decrepify and it's prerequisites. Make your iron golem from a insight polearm. Use obedience treachery and andaroels visage on might or thorns merc. Games becomes easy mode

@@simonclarke8098 Find a Woestave unique halberd: it's slow, but it's pretty common and has basically every status effect you'd ever want in a golem. The best Iron Golem IMO is a tank that does effects like slowing, open wound, blinds target, chance to cast static field, etc. Generally freezing and curse-slot effects like "causes monster to flee" are to be avoided if you're a summon Necro.

Especially in Hell when boss packs are more frequent and alot of them come with cursed which casts amp damage on your minions for a long duration then all you do is cast amp damage on them and just watch them melt and since thorns is affacted by the attack speed of monsters themselves that means the faster they hit the more they will melt. Second best aura for a Summon Necro is vigor. Your summons will engage the targets and surround them faster and thus produce more actual DPS. Yeah I know vigor doesn't increase your DPS on paper but this is because DPS output assumes all of your summons attacking all the time which isnt true. 8 Skeletons actually attacking monster for 1000 damage each is better then having 8 skeletons with 1200 damage each on paper while in reality only 5 of them are actually attacking while the 3 of them are not even in position to attack. The best skill to increase DPS of your summons is teleport since in a telestomp all your summons will actually attack a single target. They key to making your summons good is not to increase their damage individually it is to make them attack more efficiently as a group, Teleport and Vigor do that and thorns punishes their meatshield status. You can test this easily by trying out thorns + vigor vs might + fanaticism even on players 8 hell. Thorns will soften up alot of targets even the ones who are not getting attacked but are doing attacking and vigor will allow you for more summons to surround a single target and kill it faster for CE and you will require less CE due to thorns damage.

AI-altering abilities. And then you mention stun. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Urdar-monster type uses crushing blow AND stun…? And another thing to do to help make the revives last longer, is make the travel you did, with 2 open town portals, possible.. Make it so a town portal in one “city” doesn’t close the one in the other city. Or you’d have to run from the summoning stones to baals throne room. That’s your 3 minutes right there.. As it is now, you can only revive what’s within 30 second run-time from the stones, if you want around 1m30s usage of your revives against a boss…

Since i understood iron golem stay with you game after game until it dies, i made one out of a Beast :) fanatisme aura from golem. might merc act2 with infinity for more dmg or insight for lazy ass runs. 15 skeletons are enough to zerk everything even in p3 games.
