My first ladder season in D2R, my friend gave me TWO of these! I was struggling through as a MAsin because it was my favorite class as a kid, and they had just changed it so finishers always hit with charges. I was very satisfied with that playthrough, and so this season I didn't feel like playing assassin again. So of course this was the season they released Mosaic in :P

as far as my phoenix striker build is concerned this is the BIS claws (2x) until i get a good base for that new runeword. it has everything you'd want. another nice claw is the one that has ice attributes, that claw is great for an ice assassin, which is not popular at all. everything gets frozen with that build then you finish them off with fire.

Yeah, I've been using dual Bartuc's on my Phoenix Talon 'sin, too. It straight-up rips. You don't even particularly care about their damage output, because you are already quad-element from the triple-kick finisher. +3 MA, leech, Dex, %AR, and FHR are all super on-point. With +6 skills, the claws give you one of your kicks all on its own. I'm sure a Tiger Tail 'sin would be more than happy to use them, too.

All of these class-specific items added with the original LOD expansion are really good. They are all very well rounded items. I also like how they are only exceptional items so you have a decent chance of getting them while leveling through Nightmare level.

I use it for a kicksin to level up with really nice for martial arts skills to the dragon talon the nice amount of life steal and bonus to attack rating plus the -30 to attack speed really boosts the overall speed for your multiple hits toward dragon talon it's also good recovery to add with a spirit shield and stealth armor until you get treachery

Thanks for the vid!! Good to have the insight. I used to use them some back in original LoD. I want to like assassins but they are really hard to play well. Do you think they need more buffs, or are they strong enough but just not a popular play style? I rarely see them in games.

They are universally good but not bis. I see them all the time used as placeholders for x better item some wants to equip.

Kicksins are obscenely good for certain content. Hard to compete with hammerdin and sorceress for general usefulness though as any class.

Kicksins are amazing for Ubers. If not, only the trapsin is commonly played. It is one of the best builds in the game IMO (super safe, can offscreen, has a blind, 3 dmg types). The problem IMO is that all claws, even uniques or rares, are completely beaten by perfect magic weapons (i.e: you can get up to +6 to your main skill. In both hands. For example, for trapsin: +2 skills, +2 traps, +2 lightning sentry). Martial Arts assassin needs a complete rework IMO. The skill/finishers just don't work well enough.

Its smoother to play for sure, but Im thinking more in line with the diablo 2 mod whos name I forgot. They reworked the martial arts skill and it feels great and while maybe not S tier, def. A or B in my book!

Would it be a good idea to socket a shael rune in this? I've found two and was thinking if socketing both with a shael for both my trapsin and kicksin. Too much?

Note: I've found a lot of success with Bartuc's in a phoenix strike build. The increase to attack rating makes building up charges a lot more consistent, and with the new 2.4 changes you can spam the payoff ability three times. A lot of assassin builds suggest just using a triple socket greater talons with tons of attack rating but I really like the added damage that Bartuc's gives you - you shred through bosses a little faster and more consistently with a good physical base damage, and the lifesteal is very clutch sometimes.

Now I have a question for you. If you can change any skill in the game other than teleport. What would it be and why? Mine would be poison explosion - Make it like corpse explosion so it would be 50%psn dmg (could still have the lingering effect) and 50% phsyical or fire seeing it would be an explosion. the poison dmg would be over a 2 second timer just to be a little different than CE

Mine would def be compressing the duration on a poison skill. Any one, doesn't matter. Oh, or making Lower Resist scale 5% per level, like Conviction.

I have never seen Bartucs as a lvl 49 requirement. Even just checked my assassin in game and they're lvl 42. What's different?

I think he creates the items in an editor (to get perfect rolls) and made a mistake with the level requirement. All the LOD exceptional class-specific items are 42 req.

Shawl runes are a pretty good choice for most melee classes, as well as eth rune for defense reduction. Attack speed also governs how fast you drop traps.

oh not complicated, the standard kick sin build is guillaume's face, duress and gore riders, put a ber rune in one of those bartuc's and crushing blow goes though the roof, put an amn and life steal goes to 16%

Does this have any connection to the Bartuc of Diablo lore - the brother of Horazon?

This item likely refers to Bartuc, also known as the Warlord of Blood. Bartuc was said to be impervious to damage due to wearing a blood red suit of armor, the only weakness was his throat which was not properly protected. It is possible that this was the weapon that killed him.

@@GGMentor Cool, didnt know that. I find the character stories from Diablo lore really interesting, and would love for D4 to explore & implore a lot of this. Imagine a cut-scene with a flashback of Bartuc during his blood-ritual, or the huge war between him and his brother where he eventually died. Man I hope they dont mess up D4. There is so much to work with for a good storyline (sure, I probably care about this more than the average dude😅)!

Quick question to anybody that can answer. I am not sure if this scenario applies just to the Assassin or if other classes have this issue with off-class item handling. So am I only able to cast lvl 1 lower resist spell? I found a yew wand with lvl 2 lower resist, I can equip it but I cannot cast the spell. Is this the case for all classes? Do I have to reach a certain level to be able to use it? Dose this apply to all classes? For instance could a Paladin use the lvl 2 lower resist? Can I just get rid of it and free up space in my inventory?

You need Lower Resistance Charges

@@GGMentor yeah I have 60+ charges on both. I can only use the lvl 1 spell, I can’t use the lvl 2 lower resist even when it’s fully charged.

@@patinthechat6452 yes all charges have different keys for use, if you have multiple of the same item on like rings it shows up as two separate skills.

Mine is probably an older version, the file I pull uniques from is an older one and some of these uniques have changed
