I am new to photografy and just got a Nikon D3200 with a 18-105 Lense to start somewhere. I took now something like 2-3 hours to follow every step in this video with my own camera in hands and it is amazing how much i've learned of basic stuff in this short time... So, first I wanted to thank Tony and his team for this great and interesting video and second I would like to suggest to all the begginers out there: Take the time and follow every single tip that you will see here (pause and rewatch it until you really understood it) and you will improve just right away :) And now... I need to order some of the suggested stuff ^^

This was an outstanding tutorial on the d3300, which I just bought today. I realize I am going to have to go through it again, holding my camera, and doing exactly what Tony Northrup is explaining. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been chronically ill for quite a long time and been unable to have a creative outlet, I recently decided to get into photography... being disabled, I didn't have a ton of money to buy an expensive camera to start, I bought the D3300 and have been looking for a good tutorial for a while now, this was way beyond my expectations. I wish I had found your channel before buying a lens, tripod and filters.. I've learned so much in just a few of your videos. Thank you so much for helping me improve my photography skills and understand my camera so much more. Subscribed for future purchasing and tips! Thanks again.

I've just purchased the D3200 and 2 kit lenses for a fantastic price. After much research see a huge difference between it and the D3300, so I went for it. I have watched dozens of videos trying to figure out how to change shutter and aperture in manual mode. One would think this would be pretty standard fare. But it wasn't. And the owner's manual wasn't a great deal of help either.Your video explained everything I need to know to get going. Having been a student of photography back in the 70's and 80's I understand a lot about shutter speed, aperture and ISO (a.k.a. ASA) and how they all relate to the final image. I went into this not wanting to get stuck depending on the auto mode, so I will shoot in manual - or one of the priority modes for most of the time. If I easy, I'll use a point and shoot or my cellphone camera. And shooting RAW is an absolute must for me. I purchased Adobe Lightroom 6 and am in the process of learning that as well. Developed my first NEF in LR6 only 2 hours after taking my first shot on the D3200. Results are extremely encouraging. By the way, will you be doing a book on LR6? Thank you again for a great instructional video, and consider me subscribed. I am looking forward to becoming passionate about photography again. Brilliant video. Cheers mate !

Thanks for a good explaination of the 3200/3300. I.ve been using it daily for a year. (3200) Theres som remarks that i have to do. I would recommend the 18-105 in the kit if you can get it. The only drawback i can find is. Lack of adjustable size of RAW Pictures. If you do timeswap. And the focusing system could be more advanced, but we have to remember it's a bottom of the line camera, and it's a fantastic price value, like in in all modern DSLRs.

Hello Tony. Thanks for the awesome video and the hard work put into it, I think you've covered pretty much everything about the camera. I believe that you haven't mentioned the way to adjust the ISO in manual mode, so I thought I just add that info, which I think is important. If you press (and hold) the Fn button on the left side of the camera, you can adjust the ISO on the fly by rotating the main dial button. I find this very useful sometimes. Regards.

Very well done! Beginners would do well to buy your books, if they are as informative as this. One very minor correction - there IS a benefit with this camera and a faster SD card, for some users. The buffer in the D3300 is very small, so after 6 shots (raw plus jpeg), the camera slows down. Get an SD card that does 75 MB/sec writes or better, and it never slows down until the card fills up. Not an issue for most, but maybe for sports photographers. There is a "camera memory test" web site (google it) that tests different camera/card combinations, and two cards they tested on the D3100 kept up. Be aware that many cards just advertise read speeds; it's the write speed that needs to be fast for this.

What is the capacity of the card? Do you shoot NEF + JPEG? Or just NEF? Twelve shots should not be filling up an entire card, no matter what the size. Also, do you format after you have removed the pictures from the card?

I keep the Nikon cameras in my vehicle just in case I see something interesting to photograph. I also use them with a interval timers and AC adaptors as a second cameras taking pictures from a different angle when I'm photographing with one of my newer cameras. They still work flawlessly taking clean sharp photos. I, however, will not use the Nikon cameras for video. I don't like the autofocus in video with the Nikon cameras. I got this camera so I could shoot my of reference material for papercutting but now I'm thinking I could do quite a bit more with this camera. Perhaps that has bin the greatest thing about watching this tutorial with the thing in hand, I geared up for drudging through this unavoidable evil of getting to know a new piece of machinery (In case it isn't clear, I don't do tech. ever.) only to realize this evil piece of machinery somewhere during the video turned into a toy. believe me I didn't see that one coming.
