The Self Timer: It takes the same amount of time for every other shot. Is there any way to set the time only for 1st picture and then take multiple pictures quickly because if you'd have to wait for 5 seconds for every 2nd group picture to be taken then it won't be much different then the 1st one???? Thanks

I just bought my camera a couple of weeks ago and your tutorial has been extremely helpful. Far too many sources assume the user already knows more than we actually do know, which can be quite frustrating. So I particularly appreciate the clear and concise manner in which you explain the various functions of the camera. And at no time do I feel like I'm being talked down to. I greatly respect that about you. One thing that I think should be mentioned is how to adjust the camera so that the video screen does not keep going into sleep mode. For those who do not know, go to: MENU>CUSTOM SETTING MENU>C TIMERS/AE LOCK>C2 AUTO OFF TIMERS. Thanks again, Mr Northrup. I look forward to reading your books! D

Thank you so, so much! Just got my D5300 yesterday - a step up from my trusty D3300 which I have had for a few years now. Needed a second camera, so treated myself to this little beauty (with a few extra features). I have watched many tutorials - some I have found useful, others not so useful. Really pleased that I watched this one the whole way through. I loved the way that Tony broke down the whole video into small manageable sections, explaining everything simply while demonstrating on the camera. It felt great to be able to follow his instructions without feeling lost or confused. Thanks again...Pat x

I have been watching your video's and tutorials for many years and even watch the ones about Camera's i don't even own. They are great for going back to and reminding yourself about certain things. It was your guide to the Pentax K-S2 that got me hooked on watching you and it made me Change Camera's to the Pentax K-S2 which i bought brand new back in 2014 and still have. I love my Pentax, i recently bought the D5300 as something new to play with and remembered this guide and have watched it twice in the past week and the Content is still as valid now as it was then. I also have your Stunning Digital Photography which your references to are a great help. I haven't got the Lightroom one as i still use jpeg but am going to step it up a level and shoot RAW. Thanks for all your help and guidance over the years it's much appreciated.

I got this camera and I love it. I upgraded to it from my D3200. I've only being shooting for under a year but I have pretty much mastered both the D3200 and D5300. I watched this video to see what features I might have missed - the only ones were the grid lines in the view finder and the ISO in view finder. It's a fantastic camera. The wifi features are fantastic and make it easy to share my pictures right there and then. I love the mobile utility app and use it a lot for self portraits. Brilliant camera for beginners.

I just stumbled across your excellent tutorial on the D5300. Thank you so much! I'm a LONG time pro news/magazine shooter and just picked up a used D5300 and 18-140 lens for a light weight vacation rig. My pro Nikons are better weather sealed and faster to use, but I appreciate how handy the D5300 is. I especially like the flip & rotation ability of the display screen. There are some weird button combinations on this camera, but like you said, set things up and leave them alone. You have a very smooth and professional delivery as a teacher. Thanks again for the thorough tutorial. Michael

I recently bought a red Nikon D5300 and found your KZbin so helpful, I already ordered your book from Amazon! I have had my camera a couple of weeks now, so high time to refine my use for work and one of my passions (avid photographer here). I'll be subscribing shortly, thank you!

Tony Northrup Got the book, technically yesterday - E X C E L L E N T! I'll be watching your KZbin again, also refer to it, as I work through the book. After watching your KZbin, I took shots on my local property hike (our 5.1 acres & adjoining properties I hike with permission) as well as a hike to Dungeness Spit (Strait of Juan De Fuca). I'll be registering my book in the afternoon. While previewing my shots after I perused your book, I found myself more critical and wondering what you & Chelsea would think of some of them.

Just getting into a DSLR camera for the first time. Just ordered a D5300 and was looking at KZbin for reviews and found this video. I have used film SLR cameras in the past but a lot of the techniques have slipped my mind so I just ordered your paperback book you recommended in this video.

Made up my mind. Was trying to decide between D3400 and D 5300 and now I will be out tomorrow to purchase the D5300. Thank you.

I wish I had watched this before my trip across the country and the National Parks. Easy to understand. You have a great way of presenting information. I am a subscriber now. Thank you!

The D5300 was one of three cameras I've been looking at getting. Bizarrely, this video ruled it out! Having said that, this is a brilliant vid. It convinced me not to buy the camera, but I think that's because it's so exhaustive and really shows what it's like to live with the camera and I think I prefer Canon's usability. I've just downloaded the book; time to get reading! Many thanks indeed

Thank you so much for this video. I learn much better by someone showing me how to do something instead of reading. I have this camera and I use a 50mm for food photography. Hopefully my pictures will get better now. You've even convinced me to take a look at your book. Thank you!
