Tony & Chelsea Northrup I have been avidly watching your videos especially after I grew interest in photography. now that I have never been with any camera except for a Fuji point and shoot bought almost a decade back, I wanna try my hands on a DSLR. I did some research of my own and stood at either d5500 or d80. now I am utterly confused, but somehow I am more inclined towards landscape, night sky and low light photography so I find the Nikon d5500 more better than the Canon 80d (I know they somehow don't belong to the same comparable lineage and price range of their brands). The 80d gvies such a good video experience but at the DXOMARK site they rate it way below the d5500. I also checked the 800d but am not somehow satisfied. HELP! Love from India :)

Hi Abhishek. This might be a bit late, as I have only just discovered Tony's marvellous tutorial on KZbin. I am about to buy his books. I have the Nikon D90 and also the Nikon D5500. My D90 is a heavy camera and I have made some great pictures with it, but mainly on Auto. The same goes for the D5500, which has twice as many pixels - that's why I chose it - but I will have much more pleasure when I have learnt how to use it properly. I can recommend the Nikon 5500, but the 5600 does a little more, like built in Time Lapse.

Both my wife and I have recently retired and have taken up photography as a hobby. Our first camera--the Nikon D5500. Tony's video is a great way of reducing the learning curve in becoming familiar with this camera and getting the most out of it's use. Now onto reading his text, "Stunning Digital Photography." Thanks for this great effort, Tony.

This is a phenomenal tutorial. I have owned digital cameras for 8 years but just purchased the Nikon D5500. This tutorial saved me months of experimenting with the complexity yet functionality of this camera. Believe me the user manual gives you a drop of info. This tutorial is better than a D5500 for dummies book. I was so impressed I ordered his "Stunning Digital Photography" (hard-copy) which arrived from Amazon in 2 days. If you invest in a camera of this caliber and cost, watch this video, you will not regret!!!

Hi all, I just wanted to tell all of you that have not bought the books and videos, that I bought all three paperbacks and the videos, and that was before I bought my 5500, which was actually my second camera. But the little bit of information you get from youtube is nothing compared to the great information and videos in SDP or the book on Lightroom!! I strongly suggest that if you are serious about learning your camera, the very small amount of money that it cost for all of the information you get is nothing and it helps insure that Tony and Chelsea keep writing books and making the videos that we all enjoy!! Thank you Tony and Chelsea for the great books and videos!!

Thank you Tony and Chelsea for all the help you give us budding photographers. I purchased the Nikon D5500 5 months ago. my first DSLR. Even though I researched the product on the internet I did not realize the Nikon D5500 does not have high speed flash sync or flash commander mode. I wish the salesperson made me away of these important features features. I now wish I had spent more and purchased the Nikon D750 full frame camera. Yes the Nikon D5500 is a good entry level camera for the price.

After being away from photography for a long time I recently decided to get back in to it. My last camera was the Nikon N6006 film! Seeing everything that is available now is pretty overwhelming. I watched your comparison video on the D3300/D5500/Canon and I think a Sony...it helped make my mind up to get the D5500. Now that I've watched your D5500 tutorial I'm ready to finally open the box to my new camera. I will buying your books as well...I'm absolutely looking forward to taking some great photos. Absolutely superb tutorial. My first digital camera was a Fuji S7000 (which I loved) then I moved to a Canon SX50HS bridge. Now I'm looking to move into DSLR and am currently battling to decide between the Nikon D5500 or the Canon 760D. Your demos and tutorials are 100% top notch and are proving very useful in helping me to make the decision. Many thanks for the time and effort you take to make such clear, well-structured uploads without any of the lame humour, weirdness or downright daftness I've seen elsewhere (like the fool who suggests someone takes photos whilst throwing the camera into the air -- with the inevitable result!). Thanks again.

You make it no brainer thoug. However, I didn´t understand what you mentioned at the beguining about other tutorials if the viewer knew this stuff already. Amazing job on this video! I just recently purchased a Nikon D5500 and was exploring it on my own not knowing what many buttons were for. This video has made it clear. Can't wait to go out and shoot some pictures in manual mode. :D

I just bought a D5500. This video is a great way to get started. Why would anyone give it a "thumbs down?" It's probably not perfect. So, what? Tony doesn't claim to be God or anything.

I've just bought one of these 2nd hand off ebay, so this tut is extremely helpful, especially as i've only ever used Canons and i've got no idea what all the buttons do. So thanks for that. Also, the reference to the AF-S G lenses is a big help as i'm looking for a decent budget lens and now i know what will and won't auto focus on this camera.
