Safety has alwaysbeen a priority on the railways since the 1880s. That is the first time I ever saw a loco like D9551 haul a most unusual train of ex GWR carriages with a Class 52 in tow. I love the sound of the commomwealth bogies clanging over the track bolts.

They are not commonwealth bogies, those were fitted to BR MK 1 coaches built in the early 1970's, these are just standard GWR Bogies and all coach bogies if run on jointed rails make the noise as they ride over the track joints.

@@lexifillems The bogie noise of travelling over track joints sounds the same on any bogie, I was commenting that the bogies on theses GWR coaches are not commonwealth bogies.

it's a powerfull little thing to be able to pull a class 52 plus all them heavy old coaches there must be a load weight of at least 400 tons plus behind it!!!

I was a guard at Manchester Piccadilly in the 90s. Working slam door stock like this. Sometimes I would have to pull the emergency brake as people would try and open the doors while the train was moving. Stopping the train because someone wasn’t wearing a mask is beyond insane.

I used to be a guard based in Bletchley in the mid-80s and if I was a guard on the train and the driver was wearing a mask I would refuse that the train go until he removed it. 😂 After all it is a Guard who is in charge of the train not the driver, well at least it used to be. On one of my shifts when taking over for the midnight train from Bletchley to Euston it was delayed because the driver came from the railway club. To cut a long story short three times I had to use the emergency break because he missed stations, nevertheless when we got to Euston we were split up by the police as he was totally plastered. He never drove a train again

@@logicalthinker316 I also heard similar stories. This all came to an end when a freight train driver derailed a train because he was stoned. After that the drug and alcohol policy was introduced,and everyone had to be squeaky clean. I was accused of smoking a joint once but I wasn’t bothered as I knew I was clean.

@@paulmasterson386 When I joined as a guard I was told about three incidences where drivers were drunk, one went through the gates of the shed and the other went over the buffers and onto the Chinese takeaway below,both in Bletchley,that was back in the 70s early 80s

Emergency stop from 20 mph? Mind you to be fair even at that guessed speed theres alot of energy in its momentum.I wouldnt want to try and stop it with bicycle brakes.I love the SVR its just almost criminal that alot of the engines they track only ever get upto about 30 mph.Their diesels must hate it mechanically.Clagged up and full of soot.?

That would have been around 10mph or less it stopped from. The station is restricted to 10 mph until up the line round the corner where it goes upto 20. Heritage lines are limited to 25 but it's not uncommon to have the odd run up a bit past that. Their diesels seem to have it fine, all well maintained.

@@tom201090 Apologies Tom, I'd been led to believe that they allowed RAIB approved testing up to 90, but apparently that's not the case. Officially it's 60mph for steam, 75mph for diesel but I've spoken to more than one driver that has been a chunk past that. I've foot-plated a 15" with my GPS speedo showing 39mph, and I can promise you that it feels more like 125 😱

it wasn't a spad. The reason for the stop was because of a disagreement on the train with a passenger refusing to wear a mask, being in Covid times.
