31128 STRUGGLES on its RETURN to the Mainline PLUS 37508 appears! 21/05/24

31128 appears at Derby on 0Z31 from Nemesis to Grosmont NYMR but has to head back to Nemesis due to an Engine Problem. Also seen is Stunning 37508 in Large Loco Grey and Loram 37418 in its unique Loram Red & White.

Class 31’s struggled their entire career! I know I used to drive them!

I thought they were great for dropping ballast - had great slow speed control (they were never gonna go fast 😉), but oh how they needed that Turbo Charger they gave to the Class 37’s!

@@user-mh9cu1tj8i worked on the railway since 1986 passed to drive class 31 at Toton in around 1990(without checking my diaries) also class many others. Currently based at Doncaster for GBRf working freight. So completely full of shit! My actual picture is one I took at a signal stop at night! 🤡

Learnt them in the 80s when the 25s were withdrawn. They always felt heavy and underpowered, the cabs tended to fill with exhaust fumes when working hard, which they almost always were ! They did ride fairly well though, compared to the 25s due to the 6 wheel bogies.

Those 37s were lovely, and the brush type 2 A1A- A1A was a sight to see , can't be too many left now on the mainline , they were launched in 1958 , amazing 👏.

Chardybis isnt running on all 12 I can tell. Im pretty sure the rockers on the left bank or right (could be both) are messed up, i reckon they got enough cylinders working so that she can have a limp.

Looks can be deceiving as it was meant to to go to Grosmont NYMR and only managed as far as Derby.

There is lub oil coming out of the exhaust and running down the body side .
