To be fair Toronto, Ontario is right next to New York so its understandable where we got our hip hop influences as well as just the fact that we’re both North American countries that speak English so our accents are very similar

It's just because this was during a time when everyone was heavily influenced by the NY boom bap sound so that's how everyone structured their music and even how they spoke and the slang they used. Also, beyond that, Toronto is just a 1.5. hour drive to NY state, they would get the same radio, same local tv stations, news, media etc so the accent is already pretty similar, but Toronto has more of a Caribbean influence. Similar to what you see in Flatbush Brooklyn.
